Century Center gearing up for the

Over 100 exhibitors will be showing their latest products and trends in home design at this year’s Michiana Home Show. The event takes place March 11-13 at the Century Center in South Bend. President of Group 2 Promotions Mel Wood — the organizer of the event — says the majority of the contractors at the show are local working, within 40 miles of the show.

“That’s important now because it’s so hard to find contractors, so many of them don’t have the labor pool to draw from to complete jobs and the folks who are exhibiting at the home show do have that ability and they’re out there looking for new work all the time,” he said.

Renovations remain a popular project among homeowners and kitchen and bathroom exhibitions tend to be the most popularly visited sites at the Michiana Home Show.

“The most popular thing is the kitchen remodels,” said Wood. “It always has been the most important room in the house. That’s where most everybody lives.”

Still, other types of renovations are growing in popularity, thanks to people spending more time at home in recent years due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Kitchens and bathrooms are always the most popular renovations but here in the past two years, home offices are getting big, and home entertainment areas [like] theatres and TVs have become more popular too.”

Solar products will also be on exhibit at the show, a technology Wood says is becoming very popular.

“There are a lot of new solar products out. There’s a new product out, it’s a solar backup. It stores power in a battery bank during the day and you can use that power at night or during the day,” he raved.

With over 100 exhibitors already scheduled to attend the event, the Michiana Home Show is expected to draw quite a crowd.

“It’s a [time] for the public to come to see different suppliers or different contractors for a project that they might have in the works,” Wood explained. “Instead of having to make appointments with several companies and go to different stores, they can come to the [Michiana Home Show] and in one visit see people who offer products or services that they’re interested in and get questions answered right away. Then if they want to, they can get those companies to come out and give them an actual estimate.”

The Michiana Home Show is scheduled from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, March 11, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Century Center, located at 120 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., South Bend. Admission is $6.00, 12 and under are free. There are over 800 free parking spaces available within two blocks of the Century Center but on-site parking is available for $5.
