Fine Dining + Mom’s Day Her Way

Fine Dining story + photos by Loren Shaum

Meals Mother’s Day arose in the early 1900s from efforts by Anna Jarvis after her mother’s death in 1905. for Mom She eventually received support from a Philadelphia business man, and with continual persistence,

Woodrow Wilson claimed it a national holiday in 1914.

Bloody Mary at The Boathouse

At LAKElife Magazine, we say mothers deserve pampering after all they give for others, and all they go through to raise their children. And one of the best ways to recognize her sacrifice and love is to take her to a plush LAKElife establishment for a meal.

Choices are abundant, but for something extra special one must choose the right restaurant and the right day to celebrate. Many fine restaurants won’t be open on Mother’s Day, but will offer specials on Saturday before the Sunday holiday. Here are some restaurants to consider:

Hanger Steak at The Pier

Saturday Dining

In Warsaw, Cerulean and Noa Noa Wood Grill & Sushi Bar are both great choices. Located on the Winona Lake canal, Cerulean specializes in Asian fare, especially bento box choices for lunch (delicious!). If you are so inclined, raw and cooked sushi are available for both lunch and dinner. Their dinner menu is more diverse, and the walleye dinner is particularly enticing.

Farmer’s Cheese Shareable at Rua

Noa Noa specializes in fresh fish and seafood, ordered by owner Scott Woods each Monday. Their sushi is also top-shelf. Brunch Options In Syracuse, Kelly Jae’s Lakeside is always an exceptional choice, and as they did for Valentine’s Day (when they had a special opening just for that day), you can expect a special treat for mothers. The There are three possibilities for brunch options for Mom, I discovered. In downtown Warsaw, Rua has its brunch menu available for both Saturday and Sunday. The menu is extensive as there are many yummy breakfast items, plus a select menu also has an Asian flare and her signature wasabi crusted number of lunch items. It’s been the go-to spot in Warsaw salmon is a menu staple. since they reopened last fall.

On Mother’s Day

Several restaurants will be open to give mothers a day off from their own kitchens. In the Village of Winona, The Boathouse is always open on Mother’s Day—and their lake views are spectacular, especially at sunset. If the weather cooperates, you can enjoy the porch seating area.

The menu has an international flare and includes many chicken dishes, seafood choices, and it’s the only restaurant in the LAKElife area that serves lamb. Their Greek-style lamb chops would be a special treat for any mom.

The Sleepy Owl is another special LAKElife destination. Prime rib is often a weekend option, but their surf + turf options make the Owl a special spot for moms. Mother’s Day is always a special occasion at both Syracuse’s Pier Restaurant in the Oakwood Resort and North Webster’s Owl’s Nest Event Center. Both offer extensive buffets with both breakfast and lunch items. Often prime rib is also part of the action. Regardless, make reservations and go hungry!

With so many possibilities, there’s a special meal for Mom that she deserves. Take your pick!
