Anchors O’May

by Sue Pais

Like an anchor, she’s the security that helps hold us together—and keep us in place. Her grasp offers stability when we float wayward, yet she retreats when we must sail to find our own way.

She’s our biggest cheerleader, our dependable comfort, and our most unrelenting counselor. She selflessly makes our world go ‘round. When we need her, she instinctively knows. She grounds chaos and lifts spirits. When we need an ear, she listens. When we need direction, she speaks intuitively. And when we need some fun, she’s the first to raise her glass to cheers those in her world. Her wink, smile, pat on the arm, or much-needed hug could be delivered the same by no other.

Mom knows what we need. And in these warming, sunny days of May— as blooms burst toward the bright sun, May flowers remind us of the beauty that surrounds, and offers a glimpse of hope for what’s to come.

Yes, at least on Mother’s Day weekend, let’s celebrate moms—whether near, far, or watching from Above. Let’s thank them for nothing in particular, but everything all the same.

So, let’s show how much she means. Let’s notice what brings her joy, and gift her more of it—be it her favorite flowers or just the smiles we spread.

And above all, let’s appreciate her. Let’s recognize her sacrifices and her tremendous strength. She very well may be the one anchor who makes it possible for the rest of us to, indeed, live the Good Life.
