With the overwhelming support of h her Grace College women’s basketball tteammates, McMahon found the reason ffor the season to make someone more ccomfortable. McMahon and the Grace women’s b basketball program are looking to bring ssome comfort to area kids through the P Project Linus initiative, a national orgganization bringing warm blankets tto children in need. With a history in w working with the organization, McMah hon wanted to keep her involvement a alive while introducing the project to h her teammates. “The people from Project Linus ccame to my elementary school and tthat’s when it was introduced to me. I ttook the role in high school of being in ccharge of it,” McMahon said. She noted tthere wasn’t a specific goal in mind with iit being the first year of the project at G Grace. “I had no idea who would donate,

who wouldn’t and what to expect. With this being the first year, it sets the bar, and whatever we end with this year, we raise it higher next year.” McMahon hit the holiday season running, getting the word around campus and hitting up some of her past honey holes, including old friends at her alma mater, Bellmont High School. The focus then turned to her basketball community, where the Lady Lancers advertised their project at a home game earlier this month. All the of the funds raised are used by the team to buy materials to help create blankets. Those are then issued to the local chapter of Project Linus, which serves the greater Warsaw area. McMahon reported Dec. 11 her team had raised $955.75. “It’s nice doing this around Christmas because of the sentiment of doing something special around the holidays. But we know this can be a year-round thing if people need them,” McMahon said. The community service, which has been a staple of Grace College athletics missions, has helped galvanize the

young women in the program. An aspect, according to McMahon, which makes the process that much more gratifying. “Coach is always finding things in our community for us to do,” McMahon said, referring to Grace women’s basketball head coach Dan Davis. “There’s so many things going on in the area and he’s finding things. He wants us to give up some of our time and give back to other people.” Lady Lancer basketball head coach Davis is thrilled with the servant leadership McMahon and his team are displaying. “It was so disappointing for us to not be able to do anything last year because of COVID, so we were really wanting to get out and do some different things in the fall,” Davis said. “Kenzie has an amazing heart and came to me wanting to do something around Christmas and told me about Project Linus. I loved it. The part I loved the most is our team really has to get their hands on it. They are making the blankets.” For more information on Project Linus, visit projectlinus.org.
