There are more than 200,000 lights hung in trees throughout the park, and there are also more than 60 figurines and rope light figures and displays throughout. But Central Park’s holiday light display is no small undertaking. It takes weeks to string lights and set up displays, including Santa, a Nativity scene and lit pixel Christmas trees. The LED pixel trees are the newest part of the display called “Light up the Night.” “This year, we have started replacing incandescent light strands in the southeast corner of the park with LED light strands. We will continue to phase over to LED light strands in the future,” according to Shaun Gardner, maintenance director. “We began unspooling/ checking lights in mid-October.” Gardner said park staff usually begin hanging lights at the end of October or the beginning of November. “It typically takes six to eight employees over a month from start to finish, from unspooling and checking lights and making repairs to completion of the setup of the display,” he said. On Dec. 3, the “Light up the Night” event begins in Central Park. It is made possible by Paragon Medical, Steve and Jill Beehler, and VIA Credit Union. Recreation staff and volunteers will have free glow necklaces and goody bags available at the stage, while supplies last. “Also a big thanks to Young Tiger
