10Holiday FashionTrends By Haiden Hibbert

With the holidays right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about what you will wear, especially if you plan on getting together with friends and family. From Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Year’s, there are plenty of opportunities to show off this season’s top trends. Here’s a look at what you’ll see in stores this season.

“People are going all out for the holidays this year after missing last year,” said Emma Marie Metcalf, owner and stylist of Lyn Maree’s. “Statement earrings paired with a great sweater dress or neutral dress. Swiss Dot Lace is also all the rage; gorgeous on a dress or blouse paired with pants or denim to dress it down. Or go all out with dresses that sparkle!”

Cutouts - Even in the cold weather, people will be rocking cutouts on top and bottom. Bright & Bold Colors - “Red is always a favorite at holiday time,” Metcalf said. “Just add a red jacket to your plain black outfit, and a little shiny necklace can take you to all your holiday parties.”

Neturals - Muted greens (think olive and sage), browns, and whites will thrive all fall and winter long.

Ruching - Ruching adds just a touch of unique flare to any blouse, dress, or skirt.

Ski Gear - Think oversized puffer jackets, knit sweaters, and furry boots. This look is winter athleisure at its best.

Flare and Straight Leg

Bottoms - Tuck your skinny jeans away for a while. The latest denim trends include flare and straight leg.

Shackets - One of the top trends of the holiday season is the shacket (shirt + jacket). These tops are perfect for the colder weather because they’re thick and cozy and typically come in patterns and materials like fleece, corduroy, and plaid.

Glitz, Glitter, and Shine - Thanksgiving may not be the time to pull out your sparkling attire, but Christmas and New Year’s parties and gatherings are the perfect opportunity.

“A little glitz, glitter, and shine is always popular at this time of the year, and people want to be able to dress up a little more than last year,” Metcalf said. “Glitzy stars are on sweaters, and small touches of glitz are on tops and even on leggings down the sides. You can also give a little touch of glitz to any outfit by just adding a glitzy necklace or shiny handbag.”

Faux Leather - Fortunately for all of us, this cold-weather trend is coming back this season. You’ll notice clothing of all types decked out in faux leather, from leggings to tops to headbands and more.

“Leggings that look like leather, but are not, give an upbeat look to some of your casual tops. We call that liquid leather,” said Susan Johnson of Susan’s Fashions.

Denim - Another extremely popular material this season is denim, and we’re not just talking about bottoms. Denim jackets, shirts, dresses, and skirts are also on trend this fall. a
