Hosting the Bridal Shower IDEAS AND INSPIRATION

By Lauren Caggiano

In winter, oftentimes we just want to stay warm and cozy at home, but that doesn’t have to put a damper on planning a bridal shower.

Bailey Hill, wedding coordinator at Blush Bridal Beauty and Boutique in Fort Wayne, knows how to make any event sparkle and shine — and that includes bridal showers.

First things first: pick a venue and go from there.

“A bridal shower doesn’t have to be at someone’s home,” she said. “You can add elements for a homey feel to any venue; transform it to make your guest of honor and guests feel like they are at home.”

You might consider a theme like a cozy flannel and frost bridal shower. You can play on the crisp weather outside with the cozy, warm feeling of flannel. You might take it a step further and host a “flannel and fizz” shower theme, with the addition of a champagne/mimosa bar. Who doesn’t love a little bubbly on a special occasion?

If you’re looking for more general inspiration, Hill said it’s easy to impress without having to (over) think about every little detail. Food and drink alone can set the tone. For example, she said it helps to offer a menu that includes favorite comfort food staples and hot foods. Her advice: “Create a fun DIY cocoa bar or even a coffee and tea bar.”

Food and drink may be the main event, but the details also matter in making a statement. Hill said event planners said the season is just one factor of many.

“The wedding may be in a different season, but you can still bring in some style from the wedding to the winter bridal shower to make it more special and personal for the bride,” she said. “If she likes the rustic feel, you can add in wooden signs for the food and beverage areas, and/or place winter greens on the tables for decor.”

But don’t stop here. Hill is a fan of incorporating warm elements to the shower, such as candles and blankets. “This can help the flow of the shower when you may have games and when the bride is opening gifts,” she explained.

Lastly, bring Mother Nature inside with earthy table decor that wows. Winter centerpieces should be easy because there’s no shortage of festive options this time of year. Consider poinsettias, amaryllis, holly, topiaries or even some branches from your yard. Spray paint them white or silver and place them in a vase. Ornaments, cranberries or pinecones in vases also make great, affordable centerpieces.

Whatever your pleasure, the bride is sure to feel special with you at the helm. a
