Beacon raises funds for Riley Foundation

Beacon Credit Union’s annual fundraising drive for Riley Children’s Foundation brought in $31,000.

Events in 2022 included Member Center community events, candy bar sales, penny pinching pie wars, and food truck sales along with other creative efforts that were organized throughout the year to help raise funds for pediatric research and enhanced treatments which Riley provides to the children of Indiana.

“As part of our giving back to the communities we serve, we are

pleased with our partnership with the Riley Children’s Foundation,” said Dusty Cuttriss, Beacon’s Executive Vice President.

“We are thrilled with the generosity of our employees and members to come together and help raise funds for this important resource.”

The hospital’s foundation offers hope to thousands of families seeking help for seriously ill and injured children; help that only

Riley Hospital for Children can provide.

The hospital opened in 1924 as the state’s first hospital exclusively for children and is home to the state’s largest pediatric research program.

Ornament sale to benefit Lagro Canal Foundation

Celebrate the recent progress in Lagro with a special ornament featuring a postcard advertisement for the Christmas Savings Club at the Citizens State Bank (built in 1913).

The focus of this ornament is especially interesting as the bank was one of the first buildings that the Lagro Canal Foundation purchased for renovation. Recently, as the new owners of the Hopewell House were renovating the house, they discovered an old issue of the Lagro Press, which included information about D.W. Gillespie, then owner of the house and an employee of the Lagro Citizen’s State Bank. These ornaments are available for purchase at the 950 ? Speakeasy Bistro in Lagro through Jan. 31. After January, please contact Peggy Eads, 260-571-1093.

In 1876, the township of Lagro offered 10 dry goods stores, two hardware stores, seven grocery stores, 12 blacksmith shops, a wagon shop, three carriage factories, a saddle factory, a harness shop, four boot makers, three millinery shops, two dressmakers, five eating houses, three hotels, two bakeries, a watch-

maker, two tin shops, a furniture factory, two cabinet shops, two butcher shops, three saloons, six grain houses, three grist mills, seven sawmills, two tanneries, a printing office, four cooper shops, 10 physicians, a barber shop, a planing mill, four stave factories, three justices, a livery stable, three life insurance agents, five brokers in livestock, and 11 shoe shops.

And the Express adds, “They all are doing a thriving business.”

Troyer library plans Story Hour

I PRAY THAT EVERYONE had a safe Christmas and New Year with your family and friends.

TROYER MEMORIAL LIBRAY will have Story Hour on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 am. Keep an eye out for our new passive craft for the month of January!

MY YOUNGEST GRNADDAUGHTER Val Reed presented me for Christmas my first trip to Colt’s football game on Monday, Dec. 26. Even with the Colts losing the game, it was most enjoyable sharing this experience with her and all what goes on when there are breaks in the plays.

The two light shows were most enjoyed. They have people go on their phones and put in a code, then they play music and the flashlights on the phones react to the music. This is like stars blinking off and on to the sound. It was just so beautiful and something to remember. We had great parking thanks to Reed’s friend’s parking past. My granddaughter is a Chiefs fan and she hoping the Colts would win to keep

the Chargers out of the playoffs. When we were checking in the gate keeper tease her about her Chiefs hat. She stated “she was going to yell for the Colts and she had on a colt’s shirt”. He just grin and we went on.
