Miami County SAPC to host Recovery Month celebration Sept. 17

The Miami County Substance Abuse Prevention Council (SAPC) is hosting their annual Recovery Month Celebration, Sept. 17, at the Riverview Event Center, 421 West Canal Street, Peru. Join the organization as they cele brate those who are in recovery. There will be a car show, recovery walk, games for kids, vendor booths with informa tion, education, giveaways, and guest speakers. There will be free lunch, awards, and even more giveaways. The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. This organization provides grants to help with prevention, treatment, and jus tice in Miami County.

Each county has a Local Coordinating Council (LCC), which is the planning and coordinating body for addressing alcohol and other drug problems. Members include volunteers from a vari ety of organizations including educa tion, treatment, social services, and local police. LCCs are required to submit a Comprehensive Community Plan, which consists of an assessment of the local alcohol and other drug abuse problems in the county, including problem identifi cation and supportive data; a listing of proposed objectives to help alleviate the stated problems; and an evaluation com ponent designed to measure the success of the plan's strategies.

On Monday, Sept. 4, Maconaquah School Corporation Superintendent, Dr. James Callane, resigned from the position. Callane, 53, of Peru, Indiana, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 3, after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Fulton County. Sheriff deputies responded to the crash

A week ago, the Tippecanoe Valley golf team defeated the Lady Braves at Round Barn by one stroke. The Lady Braves did not take that loss lightly and after a long week of working on their games in prepara tion for the confer ence tournament and sectionals, the Lady Braves came out firing on all cylinders Thursday night at Rock Hol low. Daisy Williams earned medalist honors by carding a one under 35.

After nearly a week of matches,nothe Lady Braves got right back into the groove Tuesday night at Rock Hol low. Playing the ex perienced and well coached Logansport Berries and the young and well coached Peru Tigers, the Lady Braves were able to win the three way meet with a 182.
