Dave Enyeart and Cara Dawalt said “I do” Sept. 12, 2020. Now, as husband and wife, they are ready to go on stage with three other members of a rock group known as Reverend Boogieman.

Dave Enyeart formed Reverend Boogieman in 1995 and has played to thousands of people over the years. Dave, the lead guitar player, is sharing the stage with his wife who is now the lead vocalist for the band.

Cara is no stranger to being on stage or behind a microphone. She has performed in Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre productions since 2001 and is currently a DJ for 101.9 Rocks with her own classic rock radio show. It airs Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Both Dave and Cara enjoy being part of the entertainment industry.

“We realized we had this equal passion for performing and creating music. A lot of times we would be in the car and a song would come on and I would start singing.

Our love for classic rock music just kind of came together with him and his musicianship and I’ve learned a lot from him,” Cara

“It’s always been a dream of mine to sing but it’s always been in the car or wherever,” Cara added.

Dave said he always wanted to be a disc jockey, but it seems the closest he came to that dream was calling Cara’s show to make music requests.

“I’ve always been a singer. There were songs I always wanted to play on the guitar, but I couldn’t sing them. For her, it’s easy,” Dave said. Now that Cara has joined the band, their playlist has expanded. They have a lot of music that Reverend Boogieman has never had on the set list.

Even though Cara is female, Dave made it perfectly clear what type of band they are.

“We’re not a chick band. We don’t play chick songs. We have a handful of songs that females sing, but Cara is singing songs that the most powerful singers of all-time sing. She’s singing songs from Ronnie Dio and Maiden…a lot of guys can’t do that,” Dave explained.

Although Cara is new to the band, she isn’t the only newbie.

David Marburger, a seasoned guitar player, has joined the group. He has played in See Rock, Page 4

Obituaries George “Don” Barr, 80 George “Don” Barr was born April 26, 1940, in Miami County and departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Paul and Everal Barr. Don retired from Square D. Don was an avid fisherman and would show off his fish pictures and tell fish stories to everyone. Recently, Don attended Millers Merry Manor where he looked forward to doing Rocksteady Boxing. He was a member of Center Chapel Church.

Kazuko Carver, 88, of Peru, passed away at 2:50 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Dukes Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Fukuoka, Japan Nov. 19, 1931, the daughter of Seigia and Fumi Matsumoto. Kazuko married Leonard D. Carver in Fukuoka, Japan Aug. 23, 1960, and he preceded her in death July 2, 2019.

Born March 29, 1928, in Miami County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Vern M. and Dora E. (Wilson) Dillman. On Jan. 24, 1948, at the home of the late Rev. C.F. Golden, near Denver, Indiana, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Willis Dale “Bud” Marburger.

She was a 1946 graduate of Deedsville High School, and she worked for over thirty years with her husband at their concrete business. She was a member of the Denver Baptist Church, and she enjoyed working in her flower garden, crafting, and cooking for her family.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Willis

Bernard Eugene Burns, 79 Bernard Eugene Burns, 79, Macy, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at his residence.

Born Dec. 6, 1940, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of Robert Thomas and Cora Lillian (Scott) Burns. On March 20, 1970, at the Perrysburg Baptist Church, he was married to Diane Marie Linn, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Peru High School. He was the owner/operator of Burns Tire and Burns Fish Fry. He was a member of the former Perrysburg Baptist Church and had attended Olive Branch Church. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the Macy Masonic Lodge; he enjoyed attending auctions, cooking, and spending time with his family.

For several years, he volunteered with the Liberty Township Fire Department.

Survivors include his

Jeremy Ross, drummer for the band, had been

away from playing for about 10 years but started playing again a year ago.

Dave and Ross have

been friends for over 30 years.

“Just playing again has been very enjoyable. It’s a

good outlet for all of life’s stresses,” Ross said.

Ross began playing drums when he was about 7 years old.

The bass player, Jason Harris, said he and Dave started out together and “somehow we always end up jamming together.”

Harris is really enjoying being a part of the band and especially enjoys performing.

“The most enjoyable part is when the band and the crowd are rocking, and the energy just keeps building,” Harris shared.

Harris said he began playing guitar for a few years and a band needed a bassist for a show, so he volunteered.

He said, “it was a blast” and after that, he hasn’t been able to put down the guitar.

The group has been rehearsing for months and were supposed to open in April 2020, but

COVID-19 changed that, so their debut will be Oct. 31 at Nickel Plate Saloon in downtown Peru, beginning at 10 p.m. with a five-dollar cover charge.

Dave said the band will be playing some surprises, meaning songs people may not expect them to play but they will have something for everyone to enjoy.

Even though all five band members have been in the entertainment industry in some form or another, this will be the first time they will perform publicly as a group.

“Creating music is like a marriage.

There are so many elements that go into making it perfect and making it function. When there’s one thing out of sync, it wreaks havoc. You talk it through, get back on track and everything comes together,” Cara said.

Peru High School Cross Country teams end season at Logansport Regional

By Lisa Hobbs The PHS CrossCountry Team competed at the Logansport Regional today. Though the Tigers ran well, they were not able to place high enough to move on to Semi-State.

Finishing first for Peru and 41st overall was Alex Legg with a finish time of 18:27.

Coming in second for Peru and 57th overall was Kayden Gee with

a finish time of 18:57.

Placing third for Peru and 63rd overall was Kayden Lancaster with a finish time of 19:20, and placing

fourth for Peru and 74th overall was Landon Caldwell with a season PR finish time of 19:58. Rounding out the top six were Alex Smithers and Brayden Thomas with overall place finishes of 83rd and 86th and finish times of 21:18 and 23:16.

This concludes the 2020 cross-country season for the Tigers.

We really need to send out a big thank

you to our volunteers this season. Without them, coaching crosscountry would have been so much tougher. So, sending out a big thank you to Andy Hobbs, Daric Fuller, Justin Lambrecht, Merilyn Bennett, Stephanie Bennett, and Zach Leffel.

MCAG welcomes German Glass The Miami County Artisan Gallery (MCAG) is preparing for the 2020 holiday season by welcoming, German Glass & Gifts, in Suite 7. Mr. Bernhard Klause, Owner, offers glass ornaments out of Germany and amazing gifts, Tuesdays through Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. Masks and social distancing are required.

Bernhard has researched the history of glass ornaments, and in 2017 he found a company in Lausha, Germany that could import their products to the US. After visiting that business, he developed a friendship with the owner, and over the years learned from him and other glassblowers their individual unique traditional ornament designs.

While he was in Germany in March this year, he visited seven ornament companies, learned their production process, took pictures, and collected background about the meaning of some ornaments. The products he is selling this holiday are not only those original glass art works, but also gifts like, "Steinbach Nutcrackers."

Open House Participants will be amazed at the gifts and traditional, high-quality, authentic glass ornaments for Christmas.

North Miami Soils team competes in Area 8 Soils contest The North Miami Soils team recently competed in the Area 8 Soils contest Oct. 1, in Carrol County, Indiana. The competitors had a successful day with three senior division teams earning an invitation to compete at the state contest held in Hamilton County, Oct. 17.

Two teams that qualified for the national contest that was canceled last year were also invited to advance to the state contest this year.

Both North Miami Masters teams and one individual qualified for state in the Masters division.

The Masters division consists of judgers that have previously competed in the national contest. Contestants evaluate soil for agricultural practices as well as homesite development.

The Master teams placed first and second in their division with four members claiming top five honors. Audrey Piel secured the top finish of the day with an extremely rare perfect score followed by Clay Wildermuth in Third, Cain Clingaman in Fourth, and Britney Stroud in Fifth. The secondplace individual spot was claimed by Trent Reinholt of Rochester.

In the senior division, North Miami placed first, second, and fourth, out of 19

teams with Lewis Cass claiming the third-place spot. High individuals in the senior division included Allison Bowman claiming First, Calvin Wildermuth Second, Austin Knauff - Fifth, Jordan Weaver - Seventh, and Alison Smith - Tenth.

The previous national qualifier division was led by a North Miami first place and third place finish. High individuals included Hannah Miller - First, Will Herrell - Fourth, Allie Wildermuth - Sixth and Abby Richardson, Chloe Keith, and Lucas Keim in Eighth, Nineth and Tenth. William Herrell had also previously won the high individual in the county contest held back in September.
