which included 26 years as a highly respected locksmith. “John is one those individuals that just embodies the spirit of trust,” Pinkerton said. “He loved what he did, he was passionate about it, and everyone enjoyed him – they knew they could entrust their business to him. The City entrusted all departments to him as well. It takes an extreme level of trust to have someone handle the locks for every City department and other key businesses.” Mayor Bob Va n l a n d i n g h a m echoed Pinkerton’s sentiments during the plaque presentation in saying he always knew the “jobs were in good hands” with Boyer. “Not too many guys can say they have all the keys to the City,” he added, “but John has been able to say that for many years.” According to Boyer, being recognized for his service was “beyond words”. If there is such a thing as a match made in heaven, this was it.” Pinkerton went on to say she believes it is Boyer’s character and his love for the community that made him stand out. “Forty years is a long time and he provided a great service,” she stated. “It’s above and beyond what’s normal so we at the Chamber got with City officials to plan this unique
recognition. I think it’s somewhat bittersweet because John loves what he does and I’m sure it’s been hard for him to turn the reigns over but he acknowledges that it’s time for him to do so.” Upon retiring, Boyer sold his business to Alan Palmer, a local businessman previously involved in providing handyman services for residential and commercial customers. The Wabash County Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop Volunteers Board of Directors met for their monthly meeting on Sept. 21. Gloria Garrison, president, announced that a lady has volunteered to knit winter hats for cancer patients. These hats will be given, free of charge, to patients. If anyone has 7 oz./4 ply yarn or would like to purchase some yarn for this project they may bring it to the gift shop. The Cancer Boutique is also in need of wigs. Any Wabash County cancer patient may receive a free wig from the gift shop. If anyone has a wig they would like to donate to the boutique it would be appreciated. On Nov. 1, the volunteers will decorate the gift shop for holiday sales. Nov. 23 will be the annual Fall Bake Sale in the hospital lobby. The next board meetings will be Oct. 19, 11:30 a.m., in the hospital cafeteria.
