Professional Sunday

On Sunday, November 14, P4 hosted Professional Sunday, aimed at allowing students to partake in mock interviews, professional workshops, as well as participate in practice case questions. Professional Sunday consisted of a workshop educating students on how to dress appropriately in the professional world. An activity was conducted allowing students, in groups, to construct their own up-scale casual, business casual, and busi-

ness professional attire from a mix of clothing provided to them.

A workshop on how to network and small-talk when at a business mixer or event was also conducted in order to prepare students for possible networking events in the future. In order to put what they learned into action, lunch was turned into a “networking mixer,” teaching students how to properly approach recruiters and gain more

Holly Vocal Served As: External Affairs Director (2001-2002) Where is she now?

Holly was a Political Economy of Industrialized Societies major at Cal. During Holly’s senior year, she interned at a public finance investment bank, which specializes in the structuring and sale of municipal bonds in California. This internship led to a full-time financial analyst position after she graduated in 2002.

For the past eight years, she quickly moved up the ranks at the firm. After her first two years as an analyst, she was promoted to an Associate. After another three years, she was promoted and became Vice President. At the time, she was the youngest and only female vice president in the firm’s investment banking team. She currently covers some of the firm’s largest client accounts cross the state, including the state, various transportation agencies and local governments. She also manages the firm’s investment banking analyst group and internship program.

One of her proudest achievements after graduating was having her son, Ayden. She actually had him during her first year as a financial analyst.

She also got married to her college boyfriend. She is actively involved in her son’s school, serving as the first grade parent representative and chairperson for several fundraisers.

She is currently busy being a working mother, and in the near future, intends on entering an executive MBA program.

In a world that seeks to deprive students of funds and means to live a relatively normal life, the associates of P4 decided to put together a meeting aimed at advising and exposing other fellow students to real-world accessible resources to earn some extra cash. Colloquially named Chasing Paper, the P4 Associate-Run presented on vari-

ous topics ranging from stocks, to work study jobs, to newspaper ads, to various firms offering ways for students to earn cash. In addition, tips on strategies for selling items as well as strategies on how to appropriately network with business professionals were given.

All attendees practiced what they learned by socializing over pizza.

Many of the students who attended said that they learned a lot and were able to take new knowledge with them that they can apply in the professional world in the future.

Dear Friends and Family of P4,

It is a real honor for me to be writing this letter on behalf of the 2010-2011 P4 partners. The partners are enthusiastic about this year's programming, especially because it is P4's tenth year of existence! We hope we can continue the legacy of P4 that you have all contributed to by dedicating our time to the development and advancement of our members into the professional world. With that said, one of our goals is to foster a stronger relationship with our alumni. But we can't execute this without you! We ask that you: 1) Update your contact information regularly. We recognize that this may be a busy time in your life and that it is possible that you may move several times during the next few years. However, we can't keep you in the loop if we don't know where you are. You'll miss out on our monthly newsletters, invitations to P4 events, and the Tenth-Year Anniversary celebration. So please be sure to let us know whenever your contact information changes (i.e. your mailing address, e-mail address, or telephone number). Updating your contact information is easy --simply send your updated information to p4marketing.pr@gmail.com.

2) Stay involved. Feel free to attend any of our events including associate meetings, general meetings, shadow days, coffee chats, banquets, etc. These events are regularly advertised on our website (calP4.wordpress.com).

3) Let us know what you are up to. P4 alumni across the country are doing amazing things. Whatever life path you choose, we'd love to hear about it. :) 4) Help us contact other alumni. Our alumni database is always a work in progress and we would hate to miss an alumnus. If you know any P4 alumni contact information, feel free to pass the information along.

As a P4 alum, you are now a part of a very special community. Please know that P4 is here to help you and support you in whatever ways we can. As the Co-Director of Public Relations, I am your point person for alumni related issues. If you need to update your mailing address, have questions about upcoming events, are interested in helping with associate developments, or are trying to track down a lost classmate, I can help you out. Whatever your question, I will do my best to answer it.

Negotations 101

Partner Spotlight

Pilipino Association for Health Careers (PAHC), Pilipino Association of Scientists, Architects, and Engineers (PASAE), and the Partnership for Pre-Professional Pilipinos (P4) hosted Pre-Professional Bowling at Albany Bowl on November 16. The pre-professional orgs participated in a friendly competition of bowling in order to de-stress and bond with the various members from each organization before Thanksgiving break and finals.

P4 had Professor Timothy Dayonot faciliate a workshop on negotiations at the associate meeting on Monday, November 15th.

Professor Dayonot is currently teaching at the Goldman School of Public Policy, the Haas School of Business, and the Boalt School of Law. Dayonot has served under governors Gray Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and played a large role in the organization Filipinos for Jerry Brown.

Dayonot discussed several situations in which negotiations take place, the difference between distributive negotiations and integrative negotiations, and different forms of negotiations.
