The VIVALDI Social Care team visited Westcombe Park Care Home in Blackheath, London, as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for care home residents, relatives and staff. We were delighted to be joined by an incredible group of professionals and advocates who are deeply invested in the future of social care

Westcombe Park Care Home, operated by Bupa UK, is a purpose-built facility offering nursing and residential care. From the moment we arrived, Abbie, Gillian, Leon, Andy and team made everyone feel incredibly welcome. The hospitality and openness set the tone for an engaging and productive discussion.

Martin Green, CEO, Care England who was in attendance said “It was a fantastic event. The team at Wescombe Park, and all the colleagues from Bupa, made it such a special day, and it was great to see so many residents and families at the event. The level of engagement is testament to the quality of care, and the way in which the team at Wescombe Park engage the people who live in the care home.”

We’re delighted to bring you our second VIVALDI Social Care Provider Spotlight.

This month we spoke to Lianne Ford, Head of Nursing at Exemplar Health Care Services Ltd.

Lianne spoke of Exemplar’s reason for joining the project:

“We are thrilled at Exemplar Health Care to be participating as a provider in the Vivaldi Care Home Study! This is a huge move for the social care sector and for us as a provider and what the future may hold following the first stage of this study. Staff across our services are busy having conversations with the people we support, families and external professionals about our participation and how this will impact our processes, experiences of people who liv, work and visit here and care delivery in the future. With current pressures faced by the NHS the last place we want the people we support to be is in hospital. We always strive to do all we can to keep people at home – being supported by teams who know them well.”

“I

think it is good that the NHS and care homes are working together to better residents lives and care”

Abi, who resides at Maypole Grove, Birmingham

Our ethos is to ‘make every day better’ for the people that live with us and also for people who work with us. The data that is collected through the Vivaldi care home study will be a further step forward with understanding how we can further improve this and also improve the experience people have when visiting us on both a personal and professional level. We don’t want to see the disruption and difficulties again in our sector or services that we saw during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our number one priority is the quality of care, experience and voice of the people we support and they are heavily involved in systems and processes through all areas of our organisation. We hope to learn from the data we collect to further improve our systems, processes and how we respond to circumstances that arise, keep people at home and ensure they are safe and well”

During a recent visit to Westcombe Park BUPA Care Home, Lucy Knight – VIVALDI ocial Care Co-ordinator, spoke o Chris Powling about the project and asked him for his houghts.

Chris said

“I can truthfully say I’ve been bowled over by this morning. The meeting was beyond anything I could have wished for a place that I’m very fond of. It was full of positive people with positive feelings about the VIVALDI project. The team were very clear about what it was, very reassuring and I’ve come away thinking that this is a hugely important project. So much so that I’m actually frightened that it’s not been done before!”
