At this year’s Care Show, the CQC shared updates on their dementia strategy in the Outstanding Society Learning Lounge. While John and his granddaughter Ariana weren’t able to speak live at the event, they recorded a powerful short video to share their perspective.
In this heartfelt conversation, John—who is journeying with dementia—and Ariana —his granddaughter—reflect on what good dementia care really looks like from their lived experience. Their voices offer a personal and deeply meaningful insight into what matters most.

SocialCareNurses Lounge
Our first ever Social Care Nursing Lounge was a hive of activity at Care Show London and we can’t thank you all enough.
What started as a conversation became a reality and it was so wonderful to see the pride social care nurses have in their work.
Also thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.
Care Certificate standards, 2025
The Care Certificate standards have been updated to align with the new vocational qualification, helping those joining the sector for the first time to progress from basic induction to ideally achieving a national qualification in their first few years.
To complement the updated Care Certificate standards, Skills for Care has teamed up with partners at NHS England and Skills for Health to produce the following:
Care Certificate standards 2025, highlighting what should be arranged by employers to meet the standards
Summary of changes, explaining what has altered and where there is new focus
The Care Certificate standards assessor and employer guide, providing practical advice on how to offer and assess compliance
The Care Certificate standards self-assessment tool, providing a practical way to check the associated skills of other frontline carers
All these updated resources are available to download here. Please note that resources related to the 2015 version of the Care Certificate are expected to be withdrawn in July 2025, so employers may wish to start updating their training to align with the new standards.
For those progressing frontline carers onto the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification, the Government’s Adult Social Care Learning and Development Support Scheme can be used to cover a lot of the cost
Developing new managers and deputies guide, 2025
With succession planning a focus of CQC Well-led assessments, this new Skills for Care guide looks at the practical ways different types of adult social care services develop emerging talent into future managers. Shaped around the recent Care Workforce Pathway update, the guide explores the values, behaviours, skills and experience needed to be an effective deputy manager or registered manager and the tangible ways such expertise can be built.
Informed by interviews with owners, frontline managers, learning and development needs, and others from Good and Outstanding rated services, the guide explores how a combination of internal development opportunities and national learning programmes and qualifications can best prepare our future managers It also includes recommendations to inform future manager interviews to ensure individuals are ready for the demands of the role

Workplace wellbeing
Resilience – Based Clinical Supervision (RBCS) is a 13 hour, online participative programme delivered by the Foundation of Nursing Studies (FoNS) for social care nurses. The facilitated course provides a medium to learn and practice the art of clinical supervision so that nurses can be compassionate to themselves and therefore to others.
RBCS is a structured approach to supervision which focuses on the emotional regulation systems It supports the development of facilitation, communication and active listening skills
This programme is fully funded and available for any social care nurse working in England
The Resilience-based Clinical Supervision model is enabling nurses to support colleagues in their own care home. Some recent feedback from a participant included recognition that “We are there to listen, not necessarily to "fix".
People also learnt how to effectively use the many tools out there to create a positive environment for supervision, break the ice, create calm, trust and respect in working environments.
