Ambassador Pack Everything you need to know to make the most of your Ambassador role

Your Ambassador Role

As a Student University Ambassador for The Nutrition Society, this pack provides you with resources to help you spread the word about the work the Society does, including the range of activities, science, training, and events we offer.

Julia Haarhius, Student University Ambassador says Since becoming a Student Ambassador of the Society in May 2022, I have become more informed about the events and opportunities that the Society offers. The Nutrition Society Academy (NSA) webinars, and the career support, for example, have been very helpful for developing (soft) skills alongside the skills I learn when doing my PhD work. In turn, I enjoy talking with students and staff at the University of East Anglia (UEA) as well as the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB) about the programmes and events that the Society offers. This bore fruit, since many of those I spoke with have now registered for a Society membership. Another gift of being a Student Ambassador is the connections made with other members of the Society, online as well as in-person. The Member-Connect platform is a useful online tool to meet other ambassadors and members.

Alina Morozova says I started to use the Nutrition Society Academy (NSA) back in May 2023 and I found it very useful. The platform is ‘user friendly’, and it gives you access to the ‘hot topics’ lectures from the experienced specialists in their field. I think it is a great opportunity to enhance your knowledge with up-to-date evidencebased information, which comes in combination with an expert opinion. I was pleasantly surprised with the lecturers’ response to my requests regarding the courses I was going through on the NSA platform. In addition to a very welldesigned delivery of a service, you will receive a verified CPD certificate. NSA subscription is, definitely, a valuable investment in your personal professional development.

Is the Student University Ambassador (SUA) role open to all students? Applicants must be current student members and must be studying a Nutrition course at a university anywhere around the world. Ideally, you should have at least two years of your course left; this helps with continuity.

How can I apply for the role? Students can express their interest in applying for the role by filling out the application form here.

How many SUAs can my university have? Each University can have up to two SUAs and two University Ambassadors (staff).

When can I apply for the role? The best time to apply for the role is in September/October, current ambassadors will be graduating and vacancies will be available. However, if your university does not currently have an SUA or only has one then you can apply now. Check out the Ambassador list here. The form to apply is here.

Can I plan events for students? Yes, the Membership Team and Student Section Activities Representative will support you in planning any event you wish to hold at your university. All ideas are welcome.

What will my role entail? For more information about the role, please see the ‘Role Description’ here.

How will i benefit form being a SUA? This role will offer you the chance to build a strong network, develop a transferrable skillset, enhance your CV, and help prepare you for a career, by giving you useful skills and experience.
