Media League wins in students becoming creative geniuses
(Randy Pond/Photo)
Rosanne Fortier Vegreville Composite High School is really zooming to various fields in the arts. Last year, they were champions. Randy Pond, Power On Coach described this program and what they won. “The Media League is a free varsity creativity league for high school stu-
dents. Students join their school’s team and compete on the web against other schools from all over the world in games that challenge them to create media based on an assigned theme. 2013 was the first season and Vegreville Composite High School joined with a team named ‘Power On’
and we ended up winning our division and conference. The coaches for the team last year were myself and Ms. Cook and the team was just under 10 students, this year Power On has 12 members. “Media can be created in many forms, last year our school submitted drawings,
video, digital painting, musical, poetry, writing, 3D art and photography work as part of the games we were involved in. We went undefeated in the regular season winning some really close games against a provincial rival school. The way games are won is each team submits up to 3 pieces
of media, which is rated and shared online and through social media. At the end of the time period allotted for each game the team with the highest score from their media is the winner. Anyone can sign up to support the media league and be a player, a fan or a booster. There are prizes that come from sponsorship and it is just a really fun and free opportunity for creative students to be a part of. With all the technology at the hands of students this league allows students to use their creativity in fun filled environment. The work the students create is inspiring and motivational for them to see what their peer groups are creating from schools all over the globe. To see more of the work you can go to www. themedialeague.com and take a look at the current season. “More teams joined this year and there is even more talent submitting their work each game. The Media League is free for students and schools and is run by a
group of amazing people that believe in supporting the creativity of young students,” Pond said.
