Local RCMP Officers Cpl. Ray Stack and Cst. Daniel Bentley, along with Town of Vegreville Peace Officer Ken Podoborozny conducted a document stop on December 13. According to Cpl. Stack, approximately 100 vehicles were pulled over during the document stop that was set up near the intersection of 49 Ave. and 49 St. Friday evening. While the thermometer dipped below minus 23 degres Celsius, the officers said they had been out in much colder weather. During the evening one driver received a 24 hour suspension for driving under the influence , (less than point eight), as well as a vehicle tow. Two others were ticketed for driving without a drivers license.

Peace Officer Podoborozny said during document stops they are examining motorists drivers license and registration, looking for equipment violations, checking for any outstanding warrants in accordance of the Traffic Safety Act and Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act. Cpl. Stack said even though they conduct random acts throughout the year, they do hold more throughout the Christmas season. “It’s challenging at times, but we do it for the better good.” Cpl. Stack said document stops create awareness and enhance public safety.
