Have your say in Running the UK's Leading Muslim Body: Take Part in the MCB's Constitutional Review Constitution Review Committee consisting of present and former Secretary Generals namely Mr Farooq Murad, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, Mr Yousuf Bhailok and Dr Abdul Bari has commenced its work. It met on 18 November and heard comments and views from a number of persons.
The Constitution Review Committee of the Muslim Council of Britain is seeking views and opinions on what the MCB needs to ensure its organisation structure is responsive to present-day and future challenges. The Muslim Council of Britain was established in 1997 after extensive grassroots consultation amongst Muslim communities in the UK.
Since then it has been governed by a constitution that ensures that Britain's leading Muslim umbrella body is democratically-run, abides by agreed standards and acts to give voice and seek consensus amongst Britain's diverse Muslim communities. Under the chairmanship of Judge Khurshid Drabu, assisted by Dr Jamil Sherif, the
Judge Khurshid Drabu noted that “the contributions received so far have been most informative and challenging. It has become obvious that the MCB initiative to review its Constitution is attracting healthy attention and robust participation. This process is open to anyone: individuals, associations or specialists. The Committee is determined and committed to encourage wider participation in its work and to give everyone interested the opportunity to be heard – in person or in writing.” How you can participate The Committee will be meeting on Tuesday 7th December and Tuesday 18th January at the MCB office and will be in session from 4pm to 8pm. If you wish to attend, please call the MCB on 0207 4924980 or e-mail to book a slot for the Committee to hear your comments, suggestions and observations. Arrangements are also being made to conduct consultation focus groups in Birmingham and Manchester in the new year.
