On January 15, Charisa Munroe-Wilborn began her journey as a course coach at The Munroe Institute of Leadership. For the last five months, Charisa, a mother, wife and the daughter of Dr Myles and Ruth Munroe, has guided, facilitated, trained and coached learners through a transformational leadership journey, in the Unlocking Your Potential course. In a recent interview, Charisa expanded on how she helps people, as a course coach at the institute.

Reflecting on her coaching experience with MIL she shared that “As a course coach . . . I was so proud. So proud! This is the work I do. And this is why I do it” She said the experience has taught her a lot

“I enjoyed working with a team, I had a great course assistant. We worked well together. I loved the fact that I was able to be myself as the course coach; I didn't have to follow anybody's blueprint of what that looked like.” For Charisa this experience is one that comes full circle starting with a simple, but powerful goal of helping people. As a teenager, Charisa realized very early on that she was purposed to help people So, as an undergraduate student eager to answer this call and fresh out of high school, Charisa took the pre-medical track Thus, began her personal journey of transformation, through her career and subsequent life choices

In her junior year as a pre-medical student at Oral Roberts University, Charisa made the decision to help people through Social Work, a career that officially started for her at the tender age of 23. After earning her Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Michigan, Charisa got to work helping people, with a goal of spreading smiles across as many of her clients' faces as possible. However, after more than 15 years in the field, Charisa felt she was destined for an even greater purpose, to help more people, but she was unsure on how to make the shift

In reflecting on her teenage years in school, playing sports and gaining high school achievements, Charisa realized those things were possible because she had trainers, facilitators and coaches along the way to strengthen the gifts that were on the inside of her. That’s when Charisa said to herself: “Man, if I can help people the same way, because I've gone through it, I'll be an even greater leader.”

Charisa understood that to be a coach, she would have to go through some stuff, and be on her own transformational journey However, social work is a regulated profession with its own rules, laws and requirements for participation And Charisa realized that her gift for helping people had developed and metamorphosed into something that could no longer be confined in the bounds of a social worker. In an effort to build on this gift, Charisa got her certification as a transformational life coach and facilitator. “I enjoy helping people navigate through the deep work that is needed for personal development, for them to see the increase they want in other areas of their lives,” she said.

That switch led Charisa to reach and help even more people, through her brand Charisa LLC Through her brand, Charisa hosts transformational coaching through seminars, retreats, conferences, training, presentations, workshops and more to encourage positive lifestyle changes Throughout her journey, Charisa has also gained a special appreciation and value for family and personal growth, while finding balance through travel and quality time with her loved ones. The greatest mentorship and guidance given to Charisa has come through principles instilled in her through her parents, Dr Myles and Ruth Munroe, which she has continued to demonstrate throughout her professional and personal life. “Even though they're no longer here, they have shown me enough to still be the standard for me,” she said.

I enjoy helping people navigate through the deep work that is needed

“Time is a Gift”

Eat right, ‘meal prep,’ exercise, spend time outdoors, build your faith, read 10 pages daily, take 10,000 steps, have a self care practice, be successful at your job, climb the corporate ladder, and don’t forget to make time for your hobbies, friends and family! These are just a fraction of all the things we are expected to accomplish in a 24 hour period, while getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep

Naturally, time in our modern world feels like anything but a gift.

Time as we know it has become the thing of deadlines, a measurement against the status quo, a reminder of your shortcomings, and quite frankly something that you just do not have enough of! Yet, somewhere within your core, you and I both know that this could not have been the true purpose of time in the mind of The Creator.

A MIL branded image that reads “Time as a Gift”

Time, and the passing of time, in our natural world is an intricate canvas of ebbs and flows, known, and unknowns which move along in both an episodic and rhythmic fashion. Time, unlike what you have been made to believe since grade school, does not move in a linear manner Time is simultaneously cyclical and continuous, designed to support rising, blossoming and blooming. While it is also intermittent and repetitious, and brings with it birth, death, decay, and rebirth once again

When we view time through a long-term lens, it is easier to accept these truths, and embrace ‘Time’ as it is Yet, when we are experiencing time in our day-to-day it somehow becomes more complicated to manage and more difficult to accept. This challenge creates the chasm between time as we have come to know it, and time and it truly is !

When Moses asked God, “What is your name?” The Creator responded “YHWH” which has been translated from Aramaic and Hebrews as “I am, that who is, and that who will be (I am that I am)” The Creator who does not exist within the constraints of our time, gives us an insight into who He is, which is anchored in a waltz between time and being This signals that the primary function of who you are in the context of time is marked more by who you are ‘being,’ rather than what you are doing Remember, we are human beings not human doings

Time is your most precious gift, something you cannot get back, unlike money or possessions Therefore, the greatest gift you can give anything is your time! Dr. Myles Munroe is famously known for saying “If you do not know the purpose of a thing, abuse is inevitable” Let’s repair our relationship with time, and prioritize its true purpose, which is a gift to transform your being for personal transcendence. WHY MIL ?

In the realm of leadership and purpose-driven education, Myles Munroe Jr. stands as a beacon of inspiration. As the CEO of the Munroe Institute of Leadership (MIL), he carries forward the legacy of his esteemed father, Dr. Myles Munroe, with passion and dedication.

Recently, we had the privilege of sitting down with Myles to discuss MIL's future plans and gain insights into the institute's trajectory. With courses wrapping up and exciting new ventures on the horizon, Myles took a moment to share MIL's short-term and long-term vision with our entire audience.

Myles began by emphasizing MIL's overarching goal: "The goal is to train the trainers " This statement encapsulates the essence of MIL's mission – to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to become transformative leaders in their respective industries “Drawing inspiration from Dr Munroe's vision, Myles outlined a three-pronged approach that he believes aligns with the institute's founding principles "We envision MIL serving three main sectors: direct consumers, businesses, and governments," he explained. This multifaceted approach is rooted in the profound impact my dad had on corporate America, international governments, and beyond, where leadership training is paramount.

Delving deeper into MIL's strategic direction, Myles revealed insights gained from reflection and prayer. One key aspect Myles highlighted was MIL's autonomy in accreditation. "My dad always said that 'MIL can accredit ourselves," he noted. This strategic autonomy allows MIL to tailor courses specifically for organizations, offering custom leadership proposals and specialized training programs.

Moreover, Myles emphasized the importance of datadriven success, stating, "We want our success to be trackable." By collecting data on the impact of MIL's courses on individuals, businesses, and governments, the institute aims to build credibility and showcase tangible results.

Looking ahead, Myles shared aspirations for MIL to establish a physical campus in the future. However, he emphasized the need to remain open to divine timing, stating, "We can't put a timeline on God's vision "

As we eagerly anticipate the unfolding of MIL's future endeavors, it's clear that under Myles Munroe Jr 's leadership, the institute is poised to continue its legacy of empowering leaders to renew their minds, and transform a generation

LESSONS IN LEADERSHIP: Servant Leadership

Servant Leadership is becoming a popular buzzword in professional circles. Yet, many of us don’t realize that this notion of ‘servant leadership’ is a responsibility that applies to each one of us, no matter the hierarchical role or title we possess on our 9 to 5. One can even go so far as to say that ‘servant leadership’ is a duty baked into the fabric of what it truly means to be a human being in this earthly kingdom. So, what does it mean to be a servant leader? And, what is Servant Leadership really about?

Investopedia puts it simply and defines servant leadership as “a leadership style and philosophy that prioritizes the growth and well-being of others.” This explanation does not limit the existence of Servant Leadership to a professional setting or team, instead, it expands the recipient to an all encompassing “others ” Anyone of us can prioritize the growth and well-being of others, no matter our station or circumstance, no matter the context or capacity that we find ourselves engaging in

Many of us have grown so accustomed to placing the onus of leadership in a realm beyond ourselves, or in a context that is reserved for ‘a select few’ that we forget that we are all called to be leaders Leadership is not a station in life, leading is a way of being.

You probably heard growing up “to whom much is given, much is required” while this adage is taken from the book of Luke chapter 12, this saying (or some version of it) can be found in many cultures, communities, and faith traditions. These words of wisdom are a universal truth that has stood the test of time, and for good reason. Whether you have earthly riches or your material possessions are few, each of us has been given a portion that is our own. Every one of us has an extensive possession of unique characteristics, traits, gifts, insights and strengths that is a treasure trove of potential.

Shawn Garcia

Every single human being has been given much! And it is a requirement, not an option, suggestion or insinuation, but a mandate that you do much with what you have been given. Good leadership is servant leadership, and servant leadership is the true way of being for many rather than a select few.

You are a leader. Now, go out into the world using what you were given. Whether it is a winning smile, an encouraging word, a commanding voice, a gift to cook, sing, dance or paint, whatever it is in your unique treasure trove, use these things to prioritize the growth and wellbeing of others
