Talk of Town

Continued from page 42 have a huge mortgage payment; my husband and I are both in chinuch, earning a meager monthly salary. It isn’t about our expenses. If you have huge bills (hopefully for healthy, normal expenses of a large family), three hundred dollars ain’t making a huge difference. If you are lucky to balance your checkbook monthly, mah tov u’mah naim. Thank Hashem a million times, give tzedakah, and balance your checkbook with a few dollars less. Why haven’t some of us been sucked into the fad of raising the rent? Because we believe that every Rosh Hashana, the Eibishter inscribes exactly how much money we will have (or won’t have) in our pockets at the end of each month. The exact amount of cash flow is destined to be. You cannot make an extra dollar without the Ribono shel Olam willing so. Every dollar that is bashert for you to earn will be. So why be the overpriced landlord when you can be a mentch? Dear landlord, Klal Yisroel is known to be rachmanim b’nei rachmanim. We are a generation of chesed. Why not be compassionate and lower your tenants’ rent? You might just be zoche to have some uncomfortable expenses disappear. Being a considerate landlord and enabling a young couple to build a new home with harchavas hada’as is chesed. Tizku L’mitzvos, Someone’s Landlord

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

The inbox of your Pesach edition contained a letter from C.W. stating that someone took her cleaning lady before Pesach. I was in a similar situation and would like everyone to realize that we need to be dan l’kaf z’chus… I needed help (not cleaning) for Pesach and was recommended by a friend to call a specific person. When I called the person, the first question I asked was, “Are you available?” After discussing the work and price (which was within normal range), she told me she was available. As it turned out I did not need her, and she told me it would be no problem; she would just go back to her regular job. She had told that employer that she would not be available to come for the time period that I wanted her. (Obviously, she was making more money through me.) I can only say how disturbed I was that I almost took away help from someone else, and how grateful I am that it did not happen. Please be dan l’kaf z’chus. You never know what’s on the other side of the coin.
