Police Investigating Burglary at New City Yeshivah It was an unscheduled vacation day for students at ASHAR after school officials cancelled classes on January 31 because of a burglary at the New City yeshivah. Staff arriving at the school, located on New Hempstead Road just east of the Palisades Parkway, found that multiple locked doors had been forced open just before midnight the previous night. With students already en route to the yeshivah, a message was sent out through ASHAR’s internal messaging system notifying parents of the break-in and that their children needed to be picked up because school was cancelled pending a police investigation. No one was in the building when the burglary occurred just before midnight. A statement released by the Clarkstown Police Department categorized the burglary as “a crime of opportunity with no undertones of hate.” Anyone with any information regarding the burglary is asked to call the Clarkstown Police Department at 845639-5800.
