Silver Anniversary Cruise Welcome to our 25th Annual
Summer Cruise This year we have a great reason to celebrate, as it is our 25th Anniversary for our club. The club was started from a small group of people that had a passion for classic cars. The club has grown from those beginnings to a show that showcases not just classic vehicles but all avenues of motorized vehicles. Whether you have a turn of the century vehicle to the last new vehicle off the showroom floor. It’s a passion that we as members of the this car club have. We welcome all to the Mile Zero Cruisers Car Club. To kick our year off the club hosts a fun fundraiser based on the Barrett Jackson Auction, where our members can purchase for fun, vehicles they only dream of owning. Spring rolls around, the snow leaves, and then the group gets together Thursday nights at around 7-7:30 at the Lakeview Credit Union upper parking lot for our weekly cruise night. June gets busy for the club No matter what your ride, as a part of the Fathers Day mini show at the local shiny or tarnished, dented or finished, Rotary seniors living complex where the seniors of our community are able to get out and see our cars up close at their you are welcome in the home. Next, the club is off to a red carpet gala like no other in our area, as many Mile Zero Cruisers and are invited of our members take time in June to escort our youth of tomorrow to grad. This is to join us for a summer cruise. a car show on its own scale. Next comes the annual car show that has made us the club we are today. Hosting an event this size would not be possible with out the support of the community and the generosity of our sponsors that support us year after year. I personally would like to say “Thank You to all that have been involved in the past to make this event so successful”. The Club then takes a breather as we cruise into winter. Winter starts with a toy drive supporting 300-400 youth of our community annually. These children receive full gifts bags to make their holiday hopefully a little brighter. Be sure to attend our car show this year to be part of our 25th anniversary. This year the dates are July 12,13,14. Check out our event schedule on our website or in this booklet to see events and locations though out the 2019 cruiser weekend. I again would like to thank all our sponsors and members of our club to make this event a success for the Mile Zero Cruisers. Summer Cruise began in 1995. Viril Anderson had the idea to get a bunch of car enthusiasts together, have a barbeque and go for a ride. Around 20 vehicles attended that first year. They did a drive around town, met at the Walter Wright Village for a meal and then headed home. The second year was a full day event with 50 vehicles attending. For the third annual Summer cruise, the event became a two day affair with a 50s style sock hop on the Saturday night and then a show and shine around the Mile Zero Post on Sunday. By 1999 the event became a three day celebration of the automobile with a welcome cruise-in and family barbeque and street dance at the Dawson Co-op Mall. The Dawson Co-op has been sponsoring the Friday night event ever since. All Full Weekend Registered Participants offer so much to the weekend with many events added all the time. Fridays now offer a Rock ‘n Bowling party. Saturdays are now a chance to do something with the cars, whether it is cruising on down to Browns’ Chev Buick GMC for the Mini Show & Shine and breakfast, exploring town as you participate in the poker rally at many of the Sponsor businesses, checking out the Elvis impersonator at Stuie’s Diner, cruising into our sponsors Inland Auto Centre of Pat’s Auto Supply for lunch, or showing off your ride at the Burn Out Competition hosted by Peace Country Toyota. Don’t forget there’s always the fabulous Cruiser Dinner. The big event is still the Show and Shine on Sunday and it is still held on Main street, spreading out from the Mile Zero Post. While originally it took up the first block west of the Mile Zero Post, the show has now grown to fill over 10 city blocks with vehicles arriving from all over northern BC and AB as well as the occasional guest from much further away. The original 20 vehicles have grown more than ten times to well over 300 vehicles on display. Our biggest year so far has seen 437 registered vehicles on display not counting the sponsor vehicles. From its inception, the show has been inclusive of all types of motorized vehicles. Cars of every description and year from 1914 to current model years, trucks of every year and size from the smallest compacts to monster trucks to farm trucks to highway haulers, motorcycles with two wheels, three wheels and even one single wheel contraption. Motorized barstools, go carts, tractors, boats, planes and even a land speed jet car have all been on display at Summer Cruise. As well as the more traditional looking vehicles we have also had some interesting art cars in attendance such as the flower covered VW Beetle and the astro-turf covered Mercury Cougar. You can never be sure what you might find at the Summer Cruise Show but you can be assured of finding something interesting to look at, a bit of history, many non-profit societies with displays and booths, and lots of people to visit with. No matter what your ride, shiny or tarnished, dented or finished, you are welcome in the Mile Zero Cruisers and at Summer Cruise.

See you at the Summer Cruise!
Welcome to Summer Cruise!
This car was originally owned by the Smithard family of Sunset Prairie and was purchased new in 1949, them being the 1st registered owner...This was driven until it was retired...and in those day’s it was usually parked in the bush or pushed over a bank..which is where I saw it over a ravine with tree’s growing into and around the car.. It was pretty much a rusted out shell....When I acquired this it became a huge challenge..as something I could do in my retirement year’s ..I have stripped the car down, rebuilt fenders, the floor panel’s,the trunk and many other places that were either rusted out or gone getting parts as I could get or make them..I put the Car Shell on a Chevrolet S 10 pickup frame with a modern suspension, the brakes etc. The front end is rebuilt with a small block Chev 350 engine and a 350 turbo transmission.. I removed the side vent window and put in solid glass with electric windows and shaved the door handles with electric door lock’s. The Back Rear Window was tinted to go with the rest of the modification’s on this car that I have done. The interior upholstery on the seat’s , door panel’s and the headliner have all been recovered. and the inside interior painted..Also last fall I had the exterior painted and I did touch ups where needed.
This car has definitely been a work in progress and for now it is done!

A hot new trend in the hobby
The next big thing in the hobby?
11200 8th St.
250-782-2253 Dawson Creek, BC
#3, 10200 - 8th Street
Big rigs were never a glamorous form of transportation because they were built for work not recreation but these big machines still have a huge army of fans. For one thing semis bring sheer presence to any road because they’re loud, large and definitely in charge. They’re also a hot new trend in the hobby so they’re popping up at a lot of shows. Don Streeper works for Michener Allen Auctions and he’s also a certified appraiser so he’s seen more heavy metal than you’d see at 10,000 Black Sabbath concerts – even if Ozzie was in his prime. Don is a huge fan of vintage iron‚ especially the eighteen wheel variety and he was kind enough to explain the background story to this new trend in the hobby. He said vintage big rigs are ‚ really catching on‚ and he thinks this is because‚ we never really grew up, In other words, bigger boys like to play with bigger toys. Don thought there was another reason why the vintage trucks are a hot commodity and it has everything to do with old tech. He explained how new trucks are ‚ all electronics‚ so if they quit you’re going to have to call a road service because you’re not going anywhere when the system shuts down. Older trucks have a huge advantage because their less complicated technology allowed their drivers to limp home. Don said there’s a good chance you could‚ fix them by the side of the road. Their owners are nostalgic for a less complicated era when the big rigs were also less complicated. Don said you need‚ three new trucks with two as backup‚ to run a rig in 2018. Don said the lines of the old trucks are another big feature. They have a

By: Jerry Sutherland mystarcollectorcar.com functional, less aerodynamic look‚ much like their car cousins. A big truck from another era definitely looks like a truck from another era. These trucks are‚ restored better than factory‚ in Don’s professional opinion and the process is similar to car projects with one big difference. The big rigs don’t have the same bodywork issues as a car ‚ Don described it as much more of a nut and bolt restoration than bodywork because trucks don’t get the same illnesses. In other words, you’re replacing and restoring mechanical parts more than floor pans and fenders with a big rig project. Don’s home province of Alberta, Canada is a huge oil producer, so it has a big group of old truck owners because it really gets in your blood. These guys drove these old rigs for a living back when they were younger, and so were their trucks. They’re not a lot different from a guy who used to drive a GTO when it was new and suddenly felt an urge to drive one again. Don said there’s also a big increase in the number of vintage trailers behind these vintage rigs because it really defines the era when these trucks were hauling loads. These old trailers are also a rolling billboard for these classic rigs because these trucks are definitely drivers no matter how much investment is behind their restoration. Don said the only time you’ll see an old rig on a trailer is if an owner has two restored trucks so he’ll haul one with the other. In the end, everything about the hobby is based on nostalgia. In this case, old trucks take their owners back to a noncomputer era when a driver had better than a 50% chance of getting home when his old Mack started acting up. Jerry Sutherland is a veteran automotive writer with a primary focus on the collector car hobby. His work has been published in many outlets and publications, including the National Post, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Regina Leader-Post, Vancouver Sun and The Truth About Cars. He is also a regular contributor to Auto Roundup Publications.

The Bug Story
Show and Shine Day 2018....
Jacquie Veiner Dawson Creek, BC
Well...what a day this has been, up and in town at 5:00 am to help Warren Veiner get his cars ready and moved downtown for the Mile Zero Cruisers Summer Car show..we got his 5 vehicles moved downtown in record time... Then the car show was under way.. I did the ladies poker walk went through 7 business collecting cards... I drew 4 queens.. an ace, a pair of 5s and a 9 of spades, turns out I won first place.. pretty damn nice .. I won a skin care regime... real nice... then back to checking out cars.. (I digress about 20 some years ago I had a 1969 canary yellow bug... it was a hoot but in rough shape and I finally sold it... I regretted selling the bug) I have always thought it would be a car some day I’d own again... and basically left it at that...) we are walking along and I see this yellow 73 super beetle... I say to our kids and Elden hey that’s kinda like my old yellow bug... Elden says hey look they stole your logo (my old 69 bug had a “feelin groovy” sign we had made for the front winshield”) and I say those bastards sure did... Elden says I wonder who’s car it is.. I say well it doesn’t have a summer cruise registration card on the windshield so who knows... Elden says check it out so we go in for a closer look.. and I see the registration form on the floor.. I say oh it fell off the window so who knows... so Elden opens the door to pick up the form and I say hey... don’t open someone else’s car door at a car show... you’ll get us tossed out of the car show (everyone knows you don’t touch cars at a car show.. you don’t open doors and you sure as hell done get in anyone’s car.. unless invited) he picks up the paper and tapes it to the windshield and says... whose name is on that registration?... I roll my eyes thinking buddy you just looked at it! He says check it out so I come round the front of the car and look at the form now hanging on the front window.. it has my name on it.. I stared at it trying to make some sense of it.. I look away and back.. I know by now my gears are grinding trying to make sense of it.. I am sure there is li’l puffs of smoke

and no one said a peep...
comin’ out of my ears... I look at Elden.. he hands me the keys and says Happy Anniversary... blows my mind (our 38th wedding anniversay is Aug 2nd)... So there I stand with the keys to my new car.. crying in total disbelief... he hugs me. Awwwe is it any wonder why he stole my heart all those years ago.. what a sweetheart.. I am one lucky girl... I once again have an amazing yellow bug to cruise around in... I love that li’l car it makes my heart smile and my Elden makes my heart sing.. funny thing it seems everyone knew about this.. and no one slipped and told me.. Elden and Keri Veiner-Giesbrecht went to look at it.. in Beaverlodge... made the deal... Elden and Uncle Wes went back a week later to get it. Uncle Wes and Wayne Alexander took it for the inspection... it was hidden at Uncle Wes and Auntie Joan’s then our friend Gary’s ranch.. Loiselle’s towing hauled it to the car show.. several members of the Mile Zero Cruisers knew about it... all our kids.. and no one said a peep.. they let me stumble upon it at the car show.. hook line and sinker.. I never saw it coming.. not a freaking clue... haha.. I am so thrilled can’t wait to get her insured and spend the rest of my summer driving to work fellin groovy... what a guy no wonder he is the love of my life.. my most favorite husband... what a family and what a great bunch of friends.

Bought the 1965 Mustang in 1978 and drove it for many years then I bought a new 1989 Mustang and the ’65 got stored away and sat until I retired. When I moved to the Peace area I brought the old car along with me. Then one day I decided it was time to bring life back to the good old day. I took the car to Ken at Kootney Car Care in Grand Forks and the threeyear restoration began. It was built in Dearborn Michigan assembly plant on January 5th 1965. It has a four speed manual transmission, 2.80:1 rear axle ration, 289 cu.in. engine and came with a rally pac (tac and clock) It has bucket seats, dual exhaust, and a couple of upgrades such as electronic ignition and rack and pinion steering. It is finished off with seventeen inch foose legend chrome wheels and Hankook Tires. There were 71,303 of this model built in North America. It is not a trailer queen it is a fair weather driver.
