‘labour of love’
The story of my ‘35 Ford starts in 1956 when my Grandpa (Ray Scheck) bought this 5 Window Coupe off of the unsaleable trade lot and turned it into a stock car sponsored by Zero Service (ESSO Station) 1956 was the first year of the Dawson Creek Auto Racing Association and they held the races on a track built inside the horse track of the fairgrounds! He raced it a couple seasons, but after a good rollover scared my Grandma, he got rid of it. Fast forward to 1997, Ed Savard and I were talking cars and I told him I’d like to find a 35 Ford to re-create my Grandpa’s old car and all he said was “Oh, those are out there.” A few days later he pulled into my work with none other than my Grandpa’s original 35 on his trailer!! Turns out he had found the beat up old wreck out 17th Street and had it sold to a guy from Vancouver but after finding out where it came from, he sold it to me for $250 and a 59 Chevy front clip with trade. It sat until I found enough parts to start the rebuild. Then I did a full frame off rebuild. It’s on the original frame, 4” dropped axle, 1957 9” Ford, 350 Chevy, 4-speed, Pretty standard hot rod stuff. I chopped it 2.5” and sprayed it
a close red to the colour my grandpa painted it. It’s my most favourite car in the world and I like to think that how it found me was meant to be!
