An opportunity of a lifetime Creating a Silverdale Business Improvement District
The last 10 years have seen exponential growth in Silverdale, which emphasises that it’s a great place to do business and a great place to live. But Silverdale can get even better by achieving Business Improvement District (BID) status.
A Business Improvement District (BID) is an economic development initiative run by a business association in partnership with Auckland Council. A BID is a specified commercial area with boundaries agreed by the local board and business association. Targeted rates funds are made available for the business association to use to promote economic growth in their area. Council sets accountability requirements through its BID Policy.

BIDs are a proven, successful concept
There are already 50 BIDs in Auckland. Our neighbours at Destination Orewa Beach are a BID. We see, first-hand, the success of their many events and activities that make Orewa an attractive destination to benefit local businesses and enhance economic growth in the area. Silverdale has a thriving and diverse mix of businesses. It is inconceivable to us that Silverdale is not yet a BID, and we believe now is the time to put this right!
What do Silverdale Businesses want?
Businesses within the Silverdale commercial BID map area have been canvassed to find the priorities they would like to see addressed. Four key themes identified are:
• better security and enhanced crime prevention
Silverdale a destination of choice, not default, and driving the concept of ‘be local, support local'

• strong advocacy for Silverdale with Government, Council agencies and the Local Board, over infrastructural and policy issues that impact on local businesses

How can we get a Silverdale BID in place?

From 1-28 March 2023, all commercial property and business owners in the Silverdale BID map area will be contacted by an independent ballot management company asking them
