Millwater Community Awards

There is good progress on site and works are progressing to schedule. Site works for the new toilet block and the foundations have been completed. Work inside has seen the ceilings supported around the fireplaces and a lot of the rotten or weakened timber replaced or supported in various places within the building.

To celebrate the second birthday of theMillwatermag, we are launching the first-ever official Millwater Community Awards. And we’re asking for your help to keep the community spirit alive, and nominate someone you think deserves a little thanks.

Shade Sails We are delighted to acknowledge the proactive and positive response by Auckland Council’s Rodney Parks division for the installation of fantastic shade sails over the picnic tables in the Botanical Drive playground. This came about due to discussions between Millwater residents and our local Parks Supervisor about the need for more shade. Funding for upgrades is usually allocated to older playgrounds, so it is a great outcome that the Council responded positively to community requests and provided somewhere for families to take shelter from the beating summer sun. 'SOAP IT UP' Creative Communities Theatre/Video Project Seeks ASIAN ACTOR, Yr11-Yr13, to join cast of teenage soap opera. You'll be needed for 15 days at intervals over a 6-month period, scheduled around exam commitments. Great opportunity to gain industry experience and have some fun. Email soapitupproject@gmail.com or find us on www.facebook.com/soapitupproject/ Thankyou. Kind regards. Stephanie 021 158 2206

Millwater Central Parking It is great to see that the parking bays behind Millwater Central have now been reinstated. Hopefully they will be opened again soon for public use.

Facebook Page Another reminder if you use Facebook and aren't a member of the Millwater Families page; as long as you live in the Millwater magazine distribution area, you should join the page. It is a great source of information about local events and provides a great medium for asking questions on local life, including finding lost cats and wandering dogs. The page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/ groups/1376590315899164/

See page 11 for details.

Photo Competition We have many budding photographers in Millwater and, to help celebrate our 2nd birthday, we are also holding a Millwater photo competition. The competition is sponsored by the new Millwater Bistro & Bar, who have kindly donated a $100 dining voucher, and by Paul Conroy Photography. The winner will also have their photograph featured on the front cover of the October edition. See page 7 for details.

Wheelie Bins There has been some ongoing confusion about the supply of the new recycling bins. It appears that some were not supplied to ratepayers who were not previously paying waste levies. This can be cleared up by a call to the Council. It appears that the Council is admitting that the error was theirs and are not backdating the levies.
