Parents new to the area may not realise that Rodney’s only private school is located right here on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast. Wentworth College first opened its doors back in 2003 to Years 7, 8 and 9 students – about 50 on the first day of school. As each year passed, the Year levels moved up until 2007, since when all Intermediate and College Year levels were covered and plans were set in motion to open the Primary school in 2008.

Wentworth students benefit from average class sizes of just 11, with passionate teachers having the time to provide personalised education and pastoral support for every child.

Wentworth College follows the Cambridge International Examination system and boasts outstanding academic success, resulting in it being recognised as a ‘Cambridge Centre of Excellence’. Over 93% of senior students achieved University Entrance in 2013 and 2014, making Wentworth one of the top UE pass-rate schools in the country.

Wentworth Primary students also have class sizes significantly smaller than any in the region, ensuring not only high achievement standards but also warm, affirming relationships with teachers and peers. Primary students are also very much a part of the College, enabling them to experience a variety of additional learning opportunities and interactions not usually available to students in their early school years.

Wentworth students have the opportunity to take part in a large range of sports – from the traditional (such as netball, basketball and hockey) to the slightly less ordinary (such as pistol shooting and golf), as well as those which take full advantage of the school’s fantastic location on the doorstep of the Hauraki Gulf – sailing and rowing. Principal, Bruce Tong, whose father and brother were both Olympic rowers, has established an active and high performing rowing squad at the College. The more recent formation of a Sailing Academy at the College has also seen huge interest shown by students, with Wentworth sailors placing fifth in the country at the National Regatta earlier this year.
