buses back under public control

South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, has taken a once in a generation decision to bring buses back under public control in South Yorkshire in the biggest shake up of the bus network since the 1980s.

In a landmark decision on Tuesday 18 March, Mayor Coppard announced his decision to go ‘back to the future’ after an overwhelming response to one of the biggest bus franchising consultations ever undertaken, anywhere in the country.

More than 7,800 people had their say on proposals to take bus services back under public control with nearly 9 out of 10 people (87%) of those who had their say either strongly supporting or supporting in part, the introduction of bus franchising.

At the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Board meeting Mayor Coppard and Leaders

discussed the findings of the 12-week bus franchising consultation before the Mayor made his decision to introduce bus franchising in the region.

Under bus franchising, SYMCA will take control of the bus network including depots, bus fleets, routes, timetables, service standards, tickets and fares.

Publicly controlled buses will start to roll out in South Yorkshire from September 2027.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, said:

“Today, we’ve made history; turning back the tide on the failed experiment of the privatisation of our bus network that was started in the 1980s, putting the public back into public transport.

When I was elected as South Yorkshire’s Mayor in 2022, I promised to take back control of our buses. Today I’m proud to say that is a promise being kept.

“Starting in 2027, we will

begin to take back control of routes, fares and timetables across South Yorkshire, so we decide where buses run, when, and where.

“Buses are essential for our communities. They connect people to services, to jobs, training and opportunity, and to friends and family.

But over the last forty years we’ve seen public transport taken apart; fares go up, routes and passenger numbers go down, and our city centres, our high streets and our economy flatline.

“I want us to build a bigger and better economy in South Yorkshire and we need a public transport system that allows people to get to where they want to go, when they want to go there.

“After nearly thirty years we took the tram back into public control last year. Today is another huge step on that journey.

The destination is a fully integrated transport system

across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, one that works in the interests of our communities and our economy, putting people back in control of essential services.”

Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood, said: “I am absolutely delighted that local leaders across South Yorkshire have voted with both hands today to take back control of their buses and give local people the services they deserve, meaning that residents from Bawtry to Barnsley will be able to visit their friends and family, reach exciting job opportunities and access the public services they need.

“Through our incoming Bus Services Bill, we are determined to unlock this opportunity for communities up and down the country that have been cut off from reliable local transport for far too long, and drive up living standards, as outlined in our

Plan for Change.

“Alongside the Bill, we’re investing over £1 billion to make services more reliable, frequent and affordable –including over £17 million right here in South Yorkshire that could be used to boost infrastructure, enhance service frequency or improve reliability.”

The Mayor is committed to putting people at the heart of his vision for a fully integrated public transport network. Following today’s decision, SYMCA will be talking to communities about their buses, what they would like to see as part of the future network and on the design and features of the buses.

The Mayor will also be announcing a new integrated public transport branding which will cover buses, trams and other public transport assets owned by SYMCA in the coming months.

the big sing

The Big Sing comes to Yorkshire on Friday April 11, when eight choirs from across the region will gather in Huddersfield to mark World Parkinson’s Day. Organisers are expecting over 100 singers at the event. The Big Sing will be led by celebrated opera singer, Bibi Heal, and is open to the public. The Big Sing choirs will be joined by ‘Movers & Shakers’ podcaster Mark Mardell, who is living with Parkinson’s. Together they will sing a specially adapted version of Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic ‘I Will Survive’, with revised lyrics from the Movers & Shakers. The song has already been made into a film.

The Movers & Shakers are also organizing a Big Sing in Westminster on World Parkinson’s Day. Their mission is to convince MPs and the Government to act faster in helping people with Parkinson’s by adopting their ‘Parky Charter’. As part of their campaign, they have launched an official petition and need 100,000 signatures to get a debate in Parliament.

The idea for a Yorkshire version of The Big Sing came from Liz Ryan MBE and her husband Dr. Chris Ryan, chair of the Parkinson’s UK Huddersfield branch.

Liz Ryan says: “I am a committed Movers and Shakers fan and their version of ‘I Will Survive’ is both funny and serious. They are making a point on behalf of many people with Parkinson’s who receive inadequate medical provision. On World Parkinson’s Day, we are inviting a number of local politicians and senior hospital managers, who have the power to change things, to join us in making a serious point whilst having fun.”

Sarah Hill of Parkinson’s UK, adds: “There are 153,000 people living with Parkinson’s in the UK, including around 11,450 in Yorkshire, and 1,430 people who are newly diagnosed each year. By supporting The Big Sing both locally and in London, our aim is not only to raise our voices but also awareness on World Parkinson’s Day and to show that we are here for the Parkinson’s community. We are delighted that Mark can join us on the day and welcome anyone else to sing with us, too.”

sheffield 1000 brunch

TV presenter and broadcaster Dan Walker is hosting a charity brunch for the Sheffield 1000 Charity at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park on May 9, 2025, from 10.30 am to noon.

Members of the grassroots charities, projects, and community groups that have benefited from a £1000 donation from the Sheffield 1000 Charity will be in the room. Businesses and corporate donors will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about the difference these donations have made and the projects that Sheffield 1000 is looking to support in 2025.

The Sheffield 1000 Charity was started in 2021 with the mission to get 1000 people to donate £1 each week to support local Sheffieldbased charities, good causes and organisations, or individuals that need help.

Hosting the event is co-founder and patron Dan Walker, who said: “When we launched The Sheffield 1000, we simply wanted to make a difference in Sheffield and do that with just £1 a week. There are so many smaller charities and good causes that need support to keep going, and I love the fact that people who live in the city can also give in the city and take care of those around us. It is wonderful to see the impact we’ve been able to have in the community”. He added, “A great example is Forge Youth. Our £1000 contribution will be used to support their football league, which takes place every Friday evening at Goodwin Sports Centre. It’s a fantastic initiative offering free football sessions for young people from 8-18. Forge Youth aim to create a positive and fun environment where people can enjoy competitive football, regardless of background or ability. Food Works.

This organisation had the idea to upcycle quality surplus and locally grown ingredients into delicious food and drink in their kitchen. They provide hot meals, coffee, and cakes daily on a Pay What You Can Afford basis, with a minimum contribution of just £1.00. They plan to use their £ 1,000 to support their free children’s meals programme over the summer. And Harmony Works. The home of inspirational music education and opportunity, enriching and enhancing the lives and futures of young people and their communities across Sheffield. Just a few examples of how a £1 a week donation can give these local projects a much-needed boost.”

Steve Manley, chair of trustees of the Sheffield 1000 Charity, explains how they operate: “The Sheffield 1000 started four years ago intending to give £1000 a week to help local charities, good causes, and individuals in need, via the donations of Sheffield’s amazing people giving £1 a week. The support and generosity of our corporate members have bolstered our ability to give. So far, we have given away close to £100K to a wide variety of organisations working in education, health, sport and leisure, and the arts. We want to keep extending this vitally needed work. The donation of support from DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park and The Village Green Events has made this event possible, and I have no doubt it will help us grow our impact in Sheffield”. fundraiser of the year

Yorkshire children’s cancer charity Candlelighters is raising a toast to their Philanthropy Manager, Chris Salt, who has received the Yorkshire Fundraiser of the Year award from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising. The award is recognised as a top accolade for the work done in the fundraising sector.

Chris says: “It’s a real honour to be recognised for my work at Candlelighters. Of course, the reward of generating support and partnerships for such an important charity is enough in itself, but it is fantastic for me – and the team around me – to be recognised for our work.” He explains: “Candlelighters provide vital emotional, practical and financial support for children and families faced with a childhood cancer diagnosis, across the Yorkshire region. We receive no government funding and are able to provide a huge range of support to children and their families because of the individuals, businesses and communities who donate to or fundraise for the charity.”

Chris’ role is focused on higher value gifts - individuals and businesses who can have a significant impact through the charity. Chris says, “I love finding out what people want to get back through their giving and what difference they want to see in the world, and then helping them achieve those things. It’s so rewarding for me to see that everyone benefits - me, the donor and ultimately the families we care for.”

Commenting on the award, CEO Emily Wragg says: “We are thrilled that Chris has won this award on behalf of Candlelighters. Based in Yorkshire, our charity brings light and hope to families affected by childhood cancer, offering crucial support during their most challenging times. Whether it’s supporting patients on the wards, or funding essential research to improve the lives of children diagnosed with cancer, the assistance offered by Candlelighters relies on fundraising.”

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard has announced a pilot to allow all dogs on trams from Friday 21 March following a consultation that asked the public to ‘paws’ for thought on whether fourlegged friends should be allowed to travel freely with their human passengers.

Over 10,600 people had their say in South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s consultation, with 75% in favour of a change in the rules. Previously it was only possible for dogs to travel on Supertram services if they were assistance dogs or within a carry cage. Most buses and trains in the region do not have this restriction and let all dogs travel openly with their owners. More than nine in ten respondents (93%) said a personal benefit to allowing all dogs on trams is a fully integrated transport network, allowing passengers with dogs to use different modes seamlessly. Under the new pilot, one wellbehaved dog is allowed to travel per-passenger on Supertram. The outcome of the pilot will inform whether or not to permanently permit all dogs onboard. This follows other successful trials across Light Rail networks in Greater Manchester, West Midlands and Blackpool. The move comes as Supertram celebrates its first anniversary under public control on 22 March 2025, and plans are published setting

out a £100 million capital improvement programme to the network. This investment will help improve the reliability of the system and ensure the network is fit for the future. Over 350 employees were transferred over with responsibility for operating 32 trams and running 2,650 services per week with 9 million passengers per annum. First introduced to South Yorkshire in 1994, the trams operate on 100% renewable energy source, there is no roadside carbon emissions, and all trams and tram stops are accessible with level boarding. Since Supertram came back under public control last year, investment has more than doubled to £15.3 million to improve the network, passenger numbers are up, revenue is up, and within the first 100 days, a deepclean programme was implemented to clean all trams and stops to restore pride in the network and give customers a better experience.

Mayor Oliver Coppard, said: “A year ago we took back control of our tram network; a network that hadn’t had much love or investment over its nearly thirty years of life, a network that didn’t work for all too many people. There are still challenges, I know: too many trams are cancelled, delays do still happen, ticket prices remain too high. But we’ve made huge progress: revenues are up, ticketless travel is

down, more people are using the tram. We’re investing tens of millions of pounds into repairing and renewing the network. And now we’re taking another step towards creating a fully integrated transport network in South Yorkshire, by allowing dogs on trams. Over 10,600 people responded to our public consultation telling us that’s what they wanted to see, and we’ve listened. You can already take dogs on buses and trains, and from today that will be extended to trams so everyone can enjoy seamless journeys even when they’re with their best, four-legged friend. Step by step, we’re fixing public transport in South Yorkshire.”

A new Business Plan for 2025/2026, approved this week by the SYMCA Board, outlines priorities for the tram network which includes a £15 million investment in the next two years tackling the issues caused by trams that are 30 years old. SYMCA is also looking at buying a new fleet by 2032, subject to government funding. A new Tram-Train stop at Magna Science Adventure Centre is also being built, set to open in Winter 2025. It’s the first addition to the Tram Train service since 2018 and will serve visitors

to the Magna Science Adventure Centre and people living and working in Templeborough, Rotherham. Other priorities include a regular review of the Supertram timetable and to identify where extra services could be added, especially for people who rely more on public transport. There will also be a renewed focus on:

• Safety - through the introduction of bodycams for conductors to give passengers and staff more confidence to travel.

• Cleanliness - through undertaking a deep clean of all trams and tram stops and the introduction of additional cleaning staff across the system to improve standards for passengers.

• Customer Service – through improving recruitment processes and training, we are ensuring we provide a friendly and customer focussed service for passengers. With buses coming back under public control from 2027 and Supertram already under public control, it will allow the Mayor to realise his ambitions to create a fully integrated public transport system across South Yorkshire.

you can help shape the future of digital characters

A Quick and Easy Photo Session: Help Shape the Future of Digital Characters (Based in Sheffield’s Orchard Square)

If you’ve ever had a passport photo taken, you know it’s a simple affair: you sit, the camera clicks, and you’re done. Ten24 Studio in Sheffield has taken this idea one step further. They are inviting people—of all ages and backgrounds—to a special photo session. Instead of a single camera, there are many cameras snapping your picture at exactly the same time. Think of it as a ‘supercharged’ version of a regular photoshoot!

Why Are They Doing This?

Ten24 Studio has been a trusted name in the video game and digital character industry since 2011, with a team of industry veterans who have worked on some of the biggest titles in gaming, film, and television. To create realistic digital characters, they need a diverse range of real human faces—young, old, and everything in between. That’s where you come in. By taking part in a quick 3D face

scan, you’ll help build a cuttingedge library of 3D facial data used in future entertainment, healthcare, and technology projects.

What’s Involved?

1. Step in and sit down: You’ll be guided into a seat surrounded by cameras.

2. Snap, snap, snap: All the cameras take your photo at the same time. There are no lasers or scary machines—just a collection of cameras capturing your face from every angle.

3. Done in minutes: The whole session takes about ten minutes. You’ll be paid £40 cash there and then to thank you for your time!

What Is a 3D Face Scan?

Imagine having your photo taken from every angle at once—no James Bond lasers or spooky X-rays involved! It’s really just a high-tech version of a regular photoshoot, using multiple DSLR cameras snapping your picture at the same instant. These images are then combined to create a highquality digital model of your face.

This trusted technique is used across many industries—such as film, gaming, healthcare, and more. By taking part, you’re helping expand the possibilities of 3D technology for all sorts of exciting and worthwhile projects.

Who Can Take Part?

Anyone aged 18 and over.

Mobility note: Our scanning rig has cameras positioned around the entry, making space limited. If you can comfortably step into a train or cinema seat unaided, you’ll have no issues. However, if you use a wheelchair or mobility aid and cannot step into the seating area independently, we unfortunately won’t be able to complete your scan at this time. We recognise this limitation and are exploring ways to improve accessibility for future projects.

Your Data Is Safe

Ten24 follows strict rules to protect your privacy (including GDPR, a data protection law). They will not sell your scans for government surveillance or create sexually explicit material. This is

simply about creating realistic digital characters for entertainment, medical, and other industries.

What People Are Saying

Locals have already popped into Orchard Square to give it a go. They describe the experience as quick, interesting, and straightforward. It’s a rare chance to see behind the scenes of how famous video game characters and Hollywood movie stars get scanned. And, of course, you walk out with £40 in hand!

Interested?

Visit Orchard Square in Sheffield any time during their opening hours— walk-ins are welcome—or book your session online at:

www.sapiens-booking.com

For just a few minutes in front of the cameras, yoWu’ll help shape the future of digital characters and add to Sheffield’s growing reputation as a leader in technology. Plus, it’s an easy and fun way to earn a bit of extra pocket money!

Sheffield’s Children’s University Hope to Inspire with New Song

Sheffield’s Children’s University (CU) have launched a song packed with inspiration titled “Anything I Want To Be”.

The song is a lively, upbeat number that reflects the aims of Children’s University by celebrating the value of enrichment, inspiring young people to pursue their dreams, work hard, and have high aspirations in whatever career path they choose.

Sheffield CU always strives to be as inclusive as possible and regularly works with a wide range of schools, including those which specialise in supporting and educating children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

To enable children with SEND to participate in the song, the CU team approached colleagues leading CU work in the NEXUS academy trust group of schools.

A member of staff was able to translate the words of the song into Makaton sign language which features in the video for the song.

The Sheffield Children’s University team have been working with The Sheffield College’s higher education department for the past year on a number of activities, where the concept of the song was born.

The song was written, developed and produced by Ash Muscroft,

Music Programme Coordinator and Tutor at The Sheffield College, and Andrew Frost.

After exploring key themes linked to the mission and values of Children’s University, they developed and produced the inspiring track, ‘Anything I Want To Be’, throughout the autumn term.

During a music session in October 2024, the children worked with the college’s staff to help record the brand-new CU song.

Cllr Dawn Dale, Chair of Education, Children and Families policy committee, said:

“Sheffield City Council is incredibly proud to work in partnership with The Sheffield College to create such an inspiring song, ‘Anything I Want To Be’, that captures the spirit of Sheffield Children’s University and encourages children to follow their dreams.

“Inclusivity is one of our core values at the Council, so I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff involved in creating this song—especially for thoughtfully incorporating Makaton sign language into the chorus, ensuring it’s accessible and enjoyable for everyone”

The official launch of ‘Anything I Want to Be’ took place at the Sheffield CU Gold Awards Ceremony this week (Tuesday 18 March) at Sheffield Hallam University.

There was a live performance

of the song by staff from The Sheffield College, and the young award winners, their parents/ carers, school staff and the rest of the audience were encouraged to join in singing as well as Makaton signing the chorus. The song will be officially released by The Sheffield College on major streaming platforms in Spring 2025 and shared across the CU network, including the CU Trust.

“Anything I Want To Be” will serve as an anthem to celebrate Sheffield’s children and young people, inspiring them to believe in their potential, pursue their dreams, and reach for ambitious futures.

Ash Muscroft, Music Programme Coordinator and Tutor, The Sheffield College, who teaches music degree students at UC

Sheffield, said: “I hope this new song inspires children to think big, be ambitious and follow their dreams.”

He added: “I feel honoured to have co-written and performed it at such an exciting awards ceremony. It was also great to showcase our brand new stateof-the-art Laney equipment.”

Equipped with the latest industry standard music facilities at Hillsborough Campus, the college has a strong reputation for training the next generation of music industry talent.

Its course offer ranges from vocational diplomas through to foundation and honours degrees in Music Performance and Production at UC Sheffield - the home of university level qualifications at The Sheffield College.

ADDITIONAL POLICE PATROLS FOR DONCASTER CIT y CENTRE

Mayor Ros Jones has announced £100,000 of city centre allocated funding will be put towards increasing policing in the city centre, with South Yorkshire Police announcing they will match the figure to step up police presence in the city.

The Safer City initiative was launched in November 2024 and has seen joint working between the council and the police to make Doncaster safer, including increased council staff and resources in the city centre and improvements to the CCTV network.

Earlier this month, City of Doncaster Council’s Cabinet agreed a new 25-year city centre strategy, with £0.5m allocated from the 2025-26 budget to go towards an immediate city centre action plan in addition to the £1m allocated in Summer 2024.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said:

“Creating a safer city centre is one of my biggest priorities. Through extensive consultation and feedback, residents and businesses have made it clear to me that they want to see more police and feel safer when using the city centre.

As part of an immediate action plan to tackle these issues, I have allocated this funding to the police to strengthen the police presence.

This will further help joint efforts of the police and council to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and provide a reassuring presence in the city centre.

“Our city centre strategy details a strong vision for Doncaster city centre to stimulate enterprise, to

increase footfall, bring in more services for the community and grow the economy so businesses and residents can thrive. To do this, we need to make sure the city centre is a place for everyone can enjoy and be able to visit without the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour. I would encourage businesses and the public to engage with our officers and with the police and to report any issues so we have real time intelligence to be able to respond.”

Doncaster District Commander Chief Superintendent Pete Thorp said: "Since the launch of the Safer City initiative, we have worked alongside City of Doncaster Council to reassert our commitment to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in Doncaster city centre.

"Having already increased the number of officers working within our city centre policing team since the launch, this new investment allows us to bolster our resources and further boost police visibility in the area.

"We will also soon be opening a dedicated new policing hub within Frenchgate Shopping Centre, which will allow city centre-based officers to further strengthen relationships with retailers and respond even quicker to incidents in the centre of Doncaster.

"We want our city centre to be as safe and welcoming as it can possibly be, and we will continue to work alongside the council, our local communities and other key agencies to achieve and sustain a Safer City."

The farewell tour will see Torvill & Dean tell the story of their amazing 50-year partnership, taking the audience on a journey through their incredible career from the very beginning to the present

day, with a nostalgic look at the 70s and 80s. This retrospective storytelling will include some of Torvill & Dean’s most iconic numbers, portrayed with the help of the talented star skating lineup, along with the use of giant screens to showcase some unique videos from the archive. Plus, of course, Torvill & Dean will perform some newly choreographed routines. In a touching special celebration of Torvill & Dean’s history, young skating duos Isla Forsyth & Lewis Macdonald and Darcy Walshaw & Hugo Brooks, will share the honour of portraying Jayne and Christopher as they recreate routines from their teenage years. The show will also look forward to the skating stars of the future, and feature a performance from James Hernandez (3x National

Junior Champion) & Phebe Bekker (2x National Junior Champion) and Luke Digby (4x National Champion) & Anastasia VaipanLaw (Team GB athlete, 4x National Pairs Champion).

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean said: “We are thrilled our farewell tour welcomes some familiar faces that will delight Dancing on Ice fans as well as top athletes and future stars. It’s a pleasure to showcase talented young skating couples who will recreate memories live on the ice of how our story started at 15 years old. It’s 50 years since our skating partnership began, so now is the right time to say goodbye and end on a high. Whilst we will continue to work together off the ice, this will be the last time we will skate together. We want to thank all our fans whose support spans five decades by putting on an amazing final live show – we really hope to see you there!”

Torvill & Dean announced their skating retirement on 14th February last year (“Bolero Day”, as they fondly call it) whilst in Sarajevo to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their historic Gold medal winning performance to Ravel’s Bolero at the 1984 Winter Olympics. This legendary display reached a UK television audience of 24 million people

- it became one of the greatest sporting moments of the 20th Century - setting a new standard for world-class figure skating. The 34-date tour will see the world’s most famous skaters perform at major entertainment venues across the UK for the very last time. Tickets are available now from TorvillandDean.com.

AttAck for the next position - r öhl

Danny Röhl says his side will go all in for the remaining ‘eight finals’ as Wednesday aim to fight for everything until the final whistle of the 2024/25 campaign sounds.

The Owls’ hopes of a play-off spot were dented before the international break and

the gap now stands at six points as we gear up to go again this weekend.

One thing for sure is that Röhl and the squad will not give up on anything as the season reaches its boiling point in the coming weeks.

Wednesday head to relegation-threatened

Cardiff on Saturday with the aim of slashing the current deficit to the top six positions.

The Bluebirds are fighting for their lives in the Championship and are just outside of the bottom three by a single point. Away from home, Wednesday have been outstanding of late, with

three of the last four ending in victories and only promotion-chasing Burnley taking points from the Owls.

“I’m still looking forward, we can still do something but we know our next opponents will not be easy,” Röhl said. “We can do it because we have eight games

and that means 24 points but of course it also means we have to make a run.

“We must win home and away games but there is no question mark why we should attack the next position and the next game.

“One game, three points and maybe then you are

closer.” He continued:

“You never know. It is not easy but if there is a chance, we will attack for it.

“This is a clear message for my players now, we clean our minds and then we go into these eight finals wanting to win every game.”

Rotherham United’s trip to face Stevenage on Saturday 26th April has been moved back to take place at 2pm on Sunday 27th April 2025, following another scheduling change which has affected the hosts at the Lamex Stadium. due to international call-ups in the Blues ranks and subsequently rearranged to take place on Thursday 24th April 2025.

This rescheduling has prompted a request from Stevenage which has now been approved by the EFL to move the fixture against the Millers at the Lamex Stadium to the Sunday to allow Stevenage adequate recovery time following the Blues fixture.

Tickets had not been released for sale prior to the rearrangement of this fixture and will reflect the correct date when they do go on sale in the Red and White Shop.

Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, cochairmen of Sheffield United said:

“We are delighted to welcome Pejman and Stephen to the board of directors of Sheffield United Football Club.

“An important element of ensuring Sheffield United Football Club can compete in the topflight of English football is having the highest quality team not just on the pitch but in the boardroom as well.

“Pejman brings a wealth of investment expertise and is deeply skilled at growing and

scaling operations. Combined this with a deep understanding of football he is the perfect fit for Sheffield United.

“Stephen’s track record speaks for itself, and we have very much enjoyed working with him since becoming owners of the club.

His place on the board will ensure the running

roVers fineD oVer BArroW croWD DisorDer

Doncaster Rovers have confirmed that the club have received a fine from the Football Association following crowd disorder during last season’s match against Barrow at the Eco-Power Stadium.

During the Sky Bet League Two fixture on April 20, 2024, multiple pitch incursions took place; one of which involved a confrontation between a supporter and the Barrow goalkeeper.

Following the game,

the club received a FA charge with a longrunning investigation with which the club cooperated fully. The conclusion of disciplinary proceedings saw Rovers handed a £15,000 fine, reduced to £11,500.

Rovers appreciate the punishment imposed could have been much more severe in the circumstances and are mindful that the management of matchdays at the

stadium will be closely observed from now on. Rovers are approaching the most emotive time of the season, particularly given their push for automatic promotion. There will no doubt be several high-stakes, stirring matchdays at the EcoPower Stadium over the next two months.

Rovers ask, in the most strong of terms, that their supporters abide by regulations when attending matches. Clear guidance of what

is and is not acceptable has been provided and will be reiterated on multiple occasions before each game.

Should Rovers face further FA charges for crowd disorder, the sanctions imposed will be much greater and threaten to cause real damage to the club, whether financial, reputational or to their points total.

Those supporters who breach regulations face club bans and legal proceedings, and the

club will work closely with South Yorkshire Police to ensure those guilty are punished. An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed an £11,500 fine and warning on Doncaster Rovers for misconduct in relation to crowd control at their EFL League Two fixture against Barrow on Saturday 20 April 2024.

The FA alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/

or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don’t behave in an improper, threatening or provocative way; and/or commit any form of pitch incursion. Doncaster Rovers subsequently admitted the charge. The Regulatory Commission imposed the club’s sanctions following a hearing.
