EATING RECOVERY INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

WHY AN INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM? An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is often recommended when an individual requires a step down level of care to help facilitate the transition from the sheltered inpatient environment to home life. An IOP provides some structure and yet allows individuals to return to a portion of their normal lives. The skills and tools learned during inpatient stay are practiced in a real world environment and then processed in therapeutic groups to aid patients in implementing what they have been taught. Patient safety is of the utmost importance. Therefore, individuals who come to the Remuda Ranch IOP must undergo a screening process. Every individual’s current issues and circumstances are taken into consideration to ensure they are clinically appropriate before they are admitted into the IOP program. The Remuda Ranch Eating Recovery IOP is designed to foster the development of the individual while focusing on the previously identified gap in treatment from in-patient to selfsufficient living. Treatment is structured over an extended period offering a flexible schedule to accommodate work and school whenever possible. Transitional living for patients is available through preferred affiliations with top-quality properties familiar with the difficulties of eating disorders, and is offered to local patients, as well as those from out of state. These transitional living affiliates provide transportation, security, strong programming, fellowship, and numerous recreational activities designed to make the entire process seamless, comfortable, and fun.

Patients with eating disorders require specially trained clinicians who understand the unique needs and challenges of these individuals. Therefore, we offer the Remuda Ranch Eating Recovery Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for both men and women suffering from eating disorders. The program is facilitated by an experienced Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. The Remuda Ranch Eating Recovery IOP is an extension of the treatment philosophy of the Remuda Ranch at The Meadows inpatient and residential programs. The IOP offers individuals the opportunity to step down from inpatient or residential treatment to practice maintaining the structure and tools they have gained, and to focus on recovery in a real life environment helping to smooth the transition back into work, school, and other normal activities. We recognize that not everyone struggling with an eating disorder needs inpatient or residential treatment to start this work. Therefore, we have designed the program to welcome individuals at any stage of their recovery—transitioning from inpatient or residential treatment, just beginning their recovery, or needing a recovery refresher. Our program offers structure and support at an individualized pace based upon how much insight the patient brings into their work.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND RELAPSE PREVENTION Open to treatment program graduates and beginners alike, the focus of the Remuda Ranch Eating Recovery IOP is on continuing to build the skills around relapse prevention while building and capitalizing on a safe environment for accountability. The program entails group therapy four days per week, three hours per day, for eight-to-twelve weeks. In addition, therapy may consist of a combination of therapeutic modalities, such as: • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) • Somatic Experiencing® (SE) • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Neurofeedback, using the BrainPaintTM system and led by our Master’s level and licensed trauma therapist, is offered in our on-site Brain Spa which includes a dedicated meditation room with recliners, soft lighting, and music. To further support self-regulation to gain power over their own bodies, we also offer Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Additionally, individual counseling sessions and couple’s counseling sessions are available as needed. Patients also have the opportunity to attend 12-step meetings, work (if it doesn’t interfere with treatment), service work, and participate in healthy, recovery-based activities. Our IOP patients are allowed to be human with struggles being brought back to the group to be processed and shared with each other. Peer support is used to truly engage and teach patients how to reach out to one another, especially in times of crisis.

CONTINUING CARE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY Family is an important part of every patient’s recovery and we recognize the need for family involvement at every stage. A family day is scheduled every four weeks with a focus on continued healthy communication and individual appointments can be scheduled with the patient’s primary therapist in person or by phone each week to continue the patient’s integration back into the family.
