We continue to make improvements to your experience at the airport including enhancements to the security process as well as additional immigration capacity. Further improvements are planned this autumn as part of our commitment to continue to provide you with a fast, easy and friendly experience. Looking forward to this winter we have recently announced two new airlines which will provide even greater choice for our customers who want to experience the thrill of skiing or visiting the Alps. Powdair has announced a new service to Sion in Switzerland whilst easyJet will be operating a triple weekly service to Geneva. You may have noticed that we celebrated passing the 2 million annual passenger mark back in May, so on behalf of the team at Southampton Airport I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that chooses to fly local. Wherever you are flying today, I hope you enjoy breezing through our awardwinning Southampton Airport and that we will see you again soon.

TECH EXPRESS

Aurigny

Back in May we said farewell to the faithful old Aurigny Trislander as it made its final flight from Southampton to Alderney. It was with great sadness that we waved goodbye to this iconic aircraft at what was truly the end of an era.

Our new WHSmith Tech Express kiosk has now landed in the departure lounge! You can find many brands including JBL, Sony, Bose, Apple and much more for all your last minute technology needs. Make sure you stop by next time you fly through and check out the quality of the headphones by plugging your own phone into them.

What’s new & coming soon… We’ve got loads of great stuff in the pipeline at the moment. You may have already seen that we have introduced parallel loading at security to help speed up wait times as well as adding in an extra desk at border force to ensure you get through the airport and back home as soon as possible. Keep an eye on our restaurant and café areas over the next few months as you may notice some improvements being made… www.southamptonairport.com

Confessions of a sociopath - M. E. THOMAS

A high-functioning non-criminal sociopath. She is charismatic, ambitious and successful. You would be charmed by her if you met her, might even be seduced by her. You would not realise that she is studying you to find your flaws, that she is ruthlessly manipulative, has no empathy and does not feel guilt or remorse. But she does like people - she likes to touch them, mould them and ruin them. She could be your friend or your boss. She could be you . . . Bu y o get o ne half ne price Munich -ROBERT HARRIS ! September 1938. Hitler is determined to start a war. Chamberlain is desperate to preserve the peace. The issue is to be decided in a city that will forever afterwards be notorious for what takes place there. Munich. As Chamberlain’s plane judders over the Channel and the Fürher’s train steams relentlessly south from Berlin, two young men travel with secrets of their own.

Harry Potter & the CURSED CHILD - J.K. ROWLING

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

My not so perfect life - SOPHIE KINSELLA

Katie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed. OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers. But one day her dreams are bound to come true, aren’t they?

Dog zombies - TOM GATES

Here’s my EXCELLENT PLAN to make DogZombies the BEST band in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD! How hard can it be? (Very.) Right now I’m going to: 1. Write more songs. (Not about teachers.) 2. Make a SPECTACULAR music video. (Easy.) 3. Get some sleep. (Tricky when you’re being kept awake by LOUD NOISES.) 4. Annoy Delia. (Nothing to do with DOGZOMBIES but always FUN.)

Born to Run - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN THE NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER

‘Writing about yourself is a funny business…But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.’ —Bruce Springsteen, from the pages of Born to Run In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl’s halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. Chase the sun this autumn! TAKE ME THERE!

Algarve

Majorca

Famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, excellent golf courses and its friendly ambience, the Algarve in southern Portugal is one of Britain’s most popular holiday destinations. The main resorts’ modern hotels and apartment blocks offer lots of activities and some excellent sports facilities.

There really is something for everyone in Majorca – from families with young children to couples seeking quiet relaxation. The island is an ideal destination if you want to relax in beautiful, unspoiled countryside or on pretty beaches.

With hot summers and mild winters, it is an ideal haven for couples and families all year-round. Car hire is a really good idea if you want to explore the region. The eastern coast offers idyllic deserted beaches and ancient towns with narrow cobbled streets and craft markets. Inland the green forested mountains and the old spa village at Monchique make for a relaxing day out.

Vilamoura, Algarve

Magaluf, Palma, Pollensa and Cala D’Or offer plenty of activities and entertainment along the coast with lots of beaches, restaurants, bars and nightlife. The mountains of the northwest are breath taking offering stunning views where the craggy cliffs fall sheer in the sea. Whatever aspect of Majorca you wish to explore, one thing’s for sure you’ll be made to feel right at home wherever you go.

Costa del Sol, Spain

Costa Blanca, Spain

This attractive part of Spain almost guarantees daylong year-round sunshine on the popular ‘sun coast’ of Andalucia. There is so much choice to suit every type of holiday maker - from high-energy resorts such as Torremolinos to idyllic rural retreats like Neria.

Costa Blanca or ‘White Coast’ is popular with both Spaniards and overseas visitors. And while everyone comes for the great weather, the lovely white sand beaches, the exceptional food and the very warm welcome, everyone takes their holidays there differently.

Salobrena is a smallish coastal resort set amongst high cliffs and lush tropical plantations with a 10th century Moorish castle. Montejaque is a traditional rural village on the slopes of the Grazema National Park. In complete contrast, there are the playgrounds of the rich and famous; stylish Marbella and nearby Puerto Banus with an elegant marina, wonderful restaurants and bars, lots of golf courses, excellent shopping and sophisticated nightlife.

You may choose fun, action-packed beach resorts like Benidorm, or opt for the tranquillity of staying in a luxury villa with private pool tucked away at the foot of the Montgo mountains – and yet still only 6km from the lovely family beach resort of Denia. With a selection of villas, apartments and hotels there is a range of accommodation and resorts in the Costa Blanca to suit just about everyone.

Lyon

The fascinating city of Nantes is just over an hour away and is quoted as being one of the nicest cities in France. Experience it for yourself and discover the unique architectural heritage of the magnificent Château des ducs de Bretagne as well as the arts and culture in which it has become a hotspot for.

If you prefer to soak up the sunny Mediterranean lifestyle, board a flight to the pretty harbour of Toulon. A palm fringed waterfront lined with boutiques and brasseries and a major chapter in the history of the French Naval.

Biarritz, on the Atlantic south west, is in comparison old school glitz mixed with surfer chic. The perfect retreat for a classy weekend break, it has been a popular destination since European royalty started visiting in the 1800s. It displays a mix of whimsical mansions with Neoclassical, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and traditional Basque architecture.

If you’re a foodie, a retreat to the gastronomic capital of France, Lyon is a must. Whilst the city boasts 2,000 years of history, it’s the food that pulls visitors from near and far. It’s scattered with Michelinstarred restaurants and classic French bistros offering freshly prepared local cuisine…the biggest choice is where to dine!

CORK

Your trip to the city wouldn’t be complete without poking your head into the quirky roofed food market of The English Market which has been trading since 1788.

City breaks are the ideal way to test out a destination without committing to a whole holiday. As you disembark your Aer Lingus flight, you’ll notice that Cork, like Venice, is a city built upon water so be prepared to cross the odd bridge or two whilst you explore. The landscape is diverse, and with every turn you’ll come across a different panoramic view, magnificent mountain range, lush field or sandy beach with secret coves carved out by the Atlantic. Steeped in history, Cork is fast gaining a reputation as one of Europe’s hippest cities with some of the best art galleries, theatres and museums in Ireland. It’s a bustling, compact city and the best way to experience it is on foot so get your walking shoes on!

Eat your way around the city on a food tour, you’ll soon find your restaurant for tomorrow’s supper

Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Hidden away in the Bavarian mountains are the fairy tale-like castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof, created by Germany’s 19th century ‘mad’ King Ludwig II. He had a desire to create his own fantasy castles and he did exactly that! Little did he know that they would become the inspiration behind Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle and the backdrop for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Great Escape. Garmisch Partenkirchen The most famous town of the Bavarian Alps, Garmisch Partenkirchen offers a wide variety of unique experiences. If you are interested in some winter fun, it’s one of the closest ski resorts to Munich and famous for hosting the 1936 Olympics. If you’re visiting in warmer months, you can trek down to Partnachklamm Gorge, a narrow, deep canyon with walkways carved into the cliffs but be prepared to get wet!

Romantic Getaways… top tips • •

Dress warm - temperatures can drop to as low as -40C. Insurance - make sure your insurance covers you for winter sports - particularly snowmobiling and husky sledding. Driving licence – don’t forget this as you can’t drive a snowmobile without one.

You simply have to…

1. Search for Santa

– for small and big kids alike, capture the true spirit of Christmas and search for the big man himself.

2. Take a husky/

reindeer ride or a snowmobile – it’s the perfect transportation to ride through the snowy winter woods.

3.

Spot the Northern Lights there are no guarantees but when the sky is clear look out for this natural wonder.

Lapland’s unique setting with glistening snow and starry skies is the perfect location for a romantic getaway. Couples will love a husky safari where they can wrap up warm and enjoy being led by these beautiful animals. Take turns “mushing” your own team of huskies as your partner cosies down in the sleigh you’re guiding. One for the bucket list and something a couple will never forget is witnessing the incredible Northern Lights. Northern Light tours are a popular way to improve your chances of spotting the Aurora Borealis and will create a magical moment couples will never forget. Festive light tours in December make for an incredibly romantic Christmas break. Book a Northern Lights tour with Transun www.transun.co.uk
