Rye Town Park settles contract with new restaurateur By FRANCO FINO Staff Writer The Rye Town Park Commission has agreed to terms with its new food services operator, paving the way for the launch of the Ocean Grill restaurant. According to Rye Town Supervisor Gary Zuckerman, the president of the park commission,

the commission has accepted a deal from Homestyle Caterers to be paid $92,000 in rent for a steak, seafood and grill outlet in the old Seaside Johnnies restaurant space and a Nathan’s Famous fast food chain in the park’s concession areas for 2017. Homestyle Caterers, which has two Nathan’s franchises located at the Westchester County

Center in White Plains and at the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Park in Yorktown Heights, has also agreed to pay the park commission 10 percent of all revenue generated that exceeds $750,000. John Ambrose and Sam Chernin, who owned and operated Seaside Johnnies, the park’s former beachfront restaurant that discontinued operations last year

after a 17-year relationship, paid the commission $103,000 annually to operate their restaurant. “We are thrilled to have signed a license agreement [and] we are excited to have them begin their work so they can open by the start of the season,” Zuckerman said. CONTRACT continued on page 9

Former village of Mamaroneck Trustee John Hofstetter will join a growing pool of candidates considering a mayoral run in November, as he seeks the nomination of the village Democratic Committee. In addition to spurring change in the village—citing zoning reform and overdevelopment as a part of his platform—Hofstetter said the political climate nationwide also factored into his decision to run. “In light of what has gone on in the country and politics on the national scale, now is a good time for me to run,” he said. Hofstetter, a lifelong Mamaroneck resident, has previous experience on the village Board of Trustees, having served three full terms between 2006 and 2012, and currently works as a real estate agent in Mamaroneck. His entry into the race comes in the wake of several political announcements. Current Mayor Norman Rosenblum, a Republican, will consider seeking a seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, challenging incumbent Catherine Parker, a Rye Democrat. Additionally, a potential Democratic challenger for village mayor, Tom Murphy, a town of Mamaroneck councilman, told the Review earlier this month that he is also thinking of

running for the seat. Hofstetter said he was uncertain of whether he would be willing to primary Murphy in the event that his opponent were to receive the party’s official endorsement to run in November. “We would have to have a discussion,” Hofstetter said. With Rosenblum—who has held office in the village since 2009—potentially out of the running, interest in the race for village mayor has been generated on both sides of the aisle. This month, George Mgrditchian, a former village Republican Party chairman, told the Review that he will also consider a bid for mayor after being approached by party officials. Currently, the board’s only other Republican, Trustee Louis Santoro, has yet to announce whether he will seek re-election this year. The exit of Rosenblum would mark a clear opportunity for village board Democrats, who have failed to unseat the outspoken HOFSTETTER continued on page 8
