WINTER 2025. Champagne &Scarlet

There’s something about winter that feels endlessly romantic. Maybe it’s the golden light bouncing off crystal glassware, the hum of laughter beneath chandeliers, or the way a glass of champagne somehow tastes sweeter when shared with someone you love.

For our Winter 2025 “Champagne & Scarlet” issue, we wanted to bottle that feeling the perfect blend of elegance and energy, where classic beauty meets modern boldness. Champagne brings the soft, glowing sophistication, while scarlet adds just the right touch of fire and flair. Together, they capture what we love most about weddings: emotion, contrast, and a whole lot of personality.

This issue is filled with everything we adore about the season: rich tones, glowing skin, sparkling details, and couples who aren’t afraid to let their love stories shine in full colour. You’ll find ideas that feel luxurious but real, inspiration that warms even the chilliest day, and creative people whose passion makes every page come alive.

So here’s to the season of celebration of champagne moments, scarlet kisses, and the kind of love that makes winter feel warm.

If you have any subjects you would like us to cover or you would like to share your wedding story in IDO bridal magazine, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. idobridalmagazinemalta@gmail.com

WHY WEDDING INSURANCE MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK

The cake’s ordered. The dress is hanging in its bag like a cloud of promise. Your winter wedding in Malta is shaping up to be the event of the season. The Pinterest board has come to life, and the countdown is on. What could possibly go wrong?

Occasionally, life can present unexpected challenges. An unexpected venue closure can occur. A ferry may decide to take the day off. A DJ may decide to leave for Ibiza instead of attending your reception. It happens. And while it’s hardly romantic to think about a disaster before “I do”, it’s far less romantic to deal with one without a plan. That’s where wedding insurance quietly steps in as your chic little safety net, wrapped in a bow of peace of mind.

THE BIG “WHAT IF”

Think of wedding insurance as your behind-the-scenes best friend, the one who steps in gracefully when things go sideways. It protects the time, money, and energy you’ve invested in your wedding day by covering unexpected issues that you will be grateful to have insurance for.

Coverage can include:

•Venue problems: double bookings, damage, or sudden closures.

•Supplier no-shows: because sometimes florists get the flu and caterers mix up dates.

•Dress or suit damage: red wine and silk are not soulmates.

•Lost or stolen rings: the tiniest details can cause the biggest panic.

•Extreme weather: storms, floods, or the kind of wind that steals veils.

•Illness or injury: to you, your partner, or key guests.

•Destination delays: missing luggage, flight chaos, or lost passports.

It’s not glamorous, but neither is having to rebook your entire wedding in a panic.

MALTA ISN’T ALWAYS SUNSHINE AND SANGRIA

Yes, we’re lucky to live in a country where winter mostly means “light jacket weather”, but even Malta has its dramatic moments. Ferry delays, windy venues, and supplier cancellations happen. Indeed, no app can foresee a chef’s malfunctioning oven or a photographer’s camera malfunction.

With wedding insurance, those moments are just stories you’ll laugh about later.

Without it, they’re the stories that make you cry into your champagne.

“THANK

GOODNESS WE HAD IT” MOMENTS

•The no-show caterer: Two weeks before their big day, a couple’s restaurant went bust. Their insurance refunded the deposit and covered the cost of a replacement.

•The flooded venue: A surprise winter storm closed a seaside

venue. The policy paid for an alternate space and a complete décor reset.

•A last-minute call to a seamstress resolved the broken zipper, and the insurance covered the emergency cost. Real couples. Real chaos. Real relief.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COVER LIKE A PRO

•Start early: buy your policy as soon as you start booking suppliers.

•Match your budget: the cover should reflect your wedding’s scale not your shoe obsession.

•Double-check details: if you’re hosting guests or suppliers from abroad, include travel delays.

•Read the fine print: know exactly what’s covered (and what isn’t).

•Think beyond the big day: some plans cover rehearsal dinners or day-after brunches too.

INSIDER TIPS

• Keep every receipt and contract; they’ll make any claim smoother.

• Please ensure you accurately reflect your budget’s true value, as underestimating may lead to additional costs later.

• Ask your venue or planner for insurer recommendations.

• Check your travel or home insurance; they sometimes include wedding add-ons.

5 QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE YOU SAY “I DO”… TO A POLICY

• What’s the maximum payout if we have to cancel?

• Are pre-existing health conditions covered?

• Does it include weather-related delays?

• Are overseas guests and suppliers protected?

• Could you please let us know the timeframe for submitting a claim?

THE FINAL WORD

You insure your home, your car, and your phone, so why not the day you’ve dreamed about for years? Wedding insurance won’t stop life from being unpredictable, but it will make sure you can handle it without losing your cool (or your deposit).

Because peace of mind isn’t just practical; it’s the most stylish accessory you can wear down the aisle.

EMILY GATT –FFROM

MEDICINE TO MODELLING, SHE’S PROVING THAT CONFIDENCE, CURIOSITY, AND CREATIVITY CAN GO HAND IN HAND.

Some people stumble into modelling by chance, others get there after a gentle nudge (or ten). For Emily, it was a bit of both. “I was always told that I should start modelling,” she says with a bright smile. “But for a long time, I didn’t really have the support or confidence to pursue it. This year, I decided to change that. I started saying yes to new opportunities and honestly, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve always dreamt of modelling for different companies and being in front of the camera. This is my first big gig, as I usually model for restaurant shoots and I’m absolutely loving it!”

Her journey began with smaller lifestyle and restaurant campaigns, but this shoot marks her first major feature and she’s taking it all in with a mix of excitement and gratitude. “It feels surreal to finally be doing it,” she adds.

CREATIVE ENERGY AND CONNECTION

Ask her what she loves most about being on set, and her eyes light

up. “I love the creativity of meeting new people, the staff, the other models, sharing stories and making new contacts,” she says. “And honestly, I adore the styling process. Each artist has their own unique way of preparing me. It's fascinating to watch their ideas come together. I just love being part of that big picture.”

It’s clear she thrives on collaboration and connection, the kind that makes every shoot feel like a team adventure rather than just a job.

STYLE WITH SUBSTANCE

Emily’s fashion sense mirrors her personality, confident, expressive, and a touch unexpected. “I’d say my style is energetic, classy but edgy always personalised,” she says.

Her ultimate staple? “My small hoop earrings! They accessorise my face perfectly and go with absolutely everything. I feel incomplete without them.”

And her dream shoot location? “A villa in Lago di Como,” she grins. “Classic, romantic, and full of character just like a perfect photoshoot backdrop.”

BEYOND THE CAMERA

While modelling has opened new creative doors, Emily’s day-to-day life is anything but ordinary. “I’m actually a medical student in my final year,” she explains. “When I’m not on set, you’ll probably find me buried in books or enjoying a much-needed coffee date with friends.”

But it’s not all study and structure. “I love photography, travelling, and sports. I’m an aquatic instructor and also work part-time in a pharmacy. My life is definitely busy, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I love the balance between science and creativity.”

CURIOSITY AT HEART

Her adventurous spirit doesn’t stop there. “I’m very interested in culture and history,” she says. “Whenever I travel, I head straight to the historical sites and read about their stories. And I’ll try any local food even if it’s a little weird! I’m a very curious person by nature.”

That curiosity paired with her drive, warmth, and authenticity is exactly what makes Emily one to watch. Whether she’s in the lab, pool, or posing under studio lights, she brings the same spark: a love for learning, an open mind, and an energy that’s impossible to miss.

Meet our

groom

ALEKSANDAR KITANOVSKI –

FROM INTERIORS TO IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA, HE’S PROVING THAT STYLE AND SUBSTANCE MAKE THE PERFECT MATCH.

Some careers are carefully planned, others find you when you least expect them. For Aleksandar, modelling began as a spontaneous decision that quickly became a creative passion. “It happened quite naturally,” he says with an easy smile. “Through my lifestyle and the hobbies I was already passionate about, a few friends encouraged me to give it a try and once I stepped in front of the camera, I realised how much I genuinely enjoyed it.”

From that first photoshoot, he was hooked. What began as curiosity has since grown into a true calling, allowing him to explore expression, confidence, and style in new ways.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, CONNECTION

Ask him what he loves most about being on set, and his face lights up. “Ahaha camera, light, action!” he laughs. “The atmosphere is magical. There’s something special about being surrounded by creative people, all working toward the same vision. Every project is a chance to

challenge myself with a new role and that keeps it exciting.”

It’s that openness to collaboration and discovery that makes him so natural in front of the lens. Whether he’s suited up for a timeless editorial or going for a more laid-back lifestyle shot, his energy remains effortlessly authentic.

STYLE THAT SPEAKS

If he had to define his personal style in three words? “Timeless, confident, refined,” he says without hesitation.

And his ultimate wardrobe staple? “A perfectly tailored blazer or suit. It instantly elevates any outfit, casual or formal and gives me that extra boost of confidence.”

Fashion, for him, is about more than just trends. It’s a reflection of how you carry yourself and the quiet confidence that comes with knowing what works for you.

DREAM SCENES AND DESIGN DREAMS

When it comes to his dream shoot location, his answer is pure romance. “Somewhere scenic, like the snowy streets of Vienna,” he says. “I’m drawn to places with elegance and atmosphere where every corner feels like it holds a story. Those settings, where sophistication meets warmth and mystery, always bring out the best in photos.”

But while modelling is his creative outlet, his day-to-day world is equally artistic. “I’m deeply passionate about interior and furniture design,” he explains. “At Domestica, I work with clients to create spaces that truly reflect who they are. Homes can shape mood, personality, and comfort. It's a privilege to design the backdrop for people’s most meaningful memories.”

GROUNDED IN SIMPLICITY

Behind the polished exterior, he’s refreshingly down-to-earth. “Despite the industry I’m in, I’m very grounded,” he admits. “I find peace in simple rituals: a morning coffee with jazz, evening walks by the sea, or a glass of wine with good conversation. Those quiet moments recharge me and often spark my best ideas.”

With his balance of sophistication, creativity, and calm confidence, Aleksandar embodies the modern groom stylish yet grounded, ambitious yet authentic. Whether he’s behind the design desk or in front of the camera, one thing’s clear: he’s a man who knows how to bring elegance to everything he does.

The Sparkle Blueprint How to style bridal jewellery like a pro

When it comes to weddingday glamour, jewellery is more than just decoration; it’s the details that tie your entire look together. But how do you get it right without overdoing it?

Here’s an insider guide to accessorising like a stylist and letting your jewellery tell your story.

versatile designs that move effortlessly from aisle to anniversary.

WHEN NOT TO WEAR A NECKLACE

It’s tempting to add sparkle wherever possible, but sometimes less really is more. If your gown features heavy embellishment, intricate lace, or a dramatic neckline, skip the necklace entirely. Instead, draw focus to your

THE RULE OF THREE: ONE STATEMENT, TWO SUPPORTING PIECES

Styling your bridal jewellery is a lot like curating an outfit; balance is everything. The “rule of three” keeps things elegant: one statement piece and two supporting details.

If your gown features a bold neckline, opt for a dramatic pair of drop earrings and keep the necklace simple, or skip it entirely. If your earrings are delicate, you can also include a bracelet. The idea is to draw attention, not distraction.

Pro tip: Think focal point. You want guests to remember the glow, not the glare.

MIXING METALS FOR A MODERN BRIDAL EDGE

Gone are the days of strict matching. The new bridal luxury lies in contrast. Mixing white, yellow and rose gold for a fresh, editorial finish.

Mixed metals feel youthful, confident, and contemporary, especially for brides who want to step away from the traditional “everything must match” rule. It also means your jewellery becomes more wearable after the wedding and seamlessly blends with your everyday items.

Jewellers like Clément Jewellers have embraced this modern direction, crafting

earrings or hairpiece.

For minimalist or strapless dresses, a fine pendant or a dainty tennis necklace can work wonders — but always test it during your final fitting. The neckline, veil, and jewellery should feel like a harmonious story, not competing statements.

Remember: confidence is the best accessory, not excess.

CHOOSING EARRINGS BASED ON HAIRSTYLE AND FACE SHAPE

Your earrings do more than shine; they frame your face and complete your hairstyle. Updo or bun: Go for statement drops or chandelier earrings; they elongate your neck and photograph beautifully.

Loose waves or half-up hair: Choose small hoops, pearls, or clustered studs for a softer, romantic effect.

Short hair or pixie cuts: Play with geometry; angular shapes or delicate chains add a modern edge.

Face shape matters too:

Round faces: Long linear earrings create balance.

Oval or heart-shaped: Almost any style works; experiment!

Square faces: Curved or teardrop shapes soften the jawline.

COORDINATING WITH YOUR GROOM (WITHOUT BEING MATCHYMATCHY)

The new wedding styling rule?

Complement, don’t copy. Your jewellery and your partner’s accessories should share a mood, not a mirror.

If you’re wearing gold, he might choose cufflinks or a watch with subtle gold detailing for cohesion without over-synchronizing. If your look leans classic and elegant, his watch should echo that refinement. If your vibe is modern minimalism, matte or brushed finishes work perfectly.

Tip: Shared engravings of initials, dates, tie your accessories together far more meaningfully and personal than colour coordination ever could.

For couples who value timeless style, Clément Jewellers offers exquisite Silver 925 and 18KT Gold designs, finished with timepieces that exude quiet sophistication.

THE FINISHING TOUCH

Jewellery is the quiet power of your wedding look; it reflects personality, emotion, and the confidence of your story.

So when you’re getting ready, pause before the mirror and ask, “Does this feel like me?”

If the answer is yes, you’ve styled it like a pro.

Pantar Road, Lija

The Digital “I Do”

FROM PLAYLISTS TO SECRET VIDEOS, HERE’S HOW TO MAKE TECH FEEL MAGICAL ON YOUR WEDDING DAY.

Is tech appropriate for a wedding? Absolutely, but make it chic. QR codes have officially graduated from “corporate conferences” to “creative must-haves.” Forget the black-andwhite business look; with a little imagination, these clever little squares can become one of the most stylish, interactive, and downright adorable parts of your celebration.

From curated playlists that spark the dance floor to hidden videos that tug at heartstrings, QR codes can add a personal touch that feels seamless, surprising, and full of charm.

MAKE IT PERSONAL: PLAYLISTS WITH PERSONALITY

Imagine this. Your guests take their seats, scan a QR code printed on the menu or tucked inside a place card, and suddenly your soundtrack begins. It could be a collection of songs that shaped your love story, a “dance floor warm-up” mix, or even an after-party playlist to keep the night going long after dessert.

The best part? You can make it playful. Give each table its playlist, inspired by a chapter in your relationship. Let guests guess whether it represents your first date, the proposal, or that unforgettable holiday together. It’s an easy way to make every table feel like part of your story.

SAY IT WITH VIDEO (AND A LITTLE HEART)

Why stop at sound when you can add emotion? QR codes can unlock short, heartfelt clips: a welcome message from the couple, a “thank you” to your parents, or a behind-the-scenes peek at your engagement shoot. Keep it short and sweet (think under a minute). Guests are far more likely to watch and share when it feels natural, like discovering an Instagram Reel in the middle of a wedding. These little surprises turn a moment into a memory and make guests feel even more connected to your day.

“We wanted a wedding that felt like us — relaxed, romantic, and full of fun. In the end, we got everything we hoped for: love, laughter, and the best party of our lives.”

DÉCOR THAT DOES DOUBLE DUTY

This is where creativity takes centre stage. Instead of traditional table numbers, each table could feature a QR code that tells a story, a fun fact about the couple, a mini photo gallery from that year in your relationship, or even a quick quiz to get guests chatting.

It’s décor that looks gorgeous and gets people talking. Whether it’s printed on sleek acrylic, woven into your floral design, or tucked into an elegant frame, QR codes can elevate your tablescape while adding an interactive twist.

GUESTBOOK, REIMAGINED

Goodbye, forgotten pages and missing pens. A digital guestbook

accessed by a QR code ensures every heartfelt message, selfie, and joke stays safe forever. Guests can scan and upload photos, record short video toasts, or leave voice notes that you’ll treasure for years.

Just imagine revisiting those voice messages on your first anniversary, hearing your best friend’s toast, your aunt’s laugh, or your dad’s words all over again. It’s personal, modern, and endlessly meaningful.

STYLE THEM BEAUTIFULLY

Of course, QR codes don’t have to look technical. You can make them part of your design story. Customise their colours to match your wedding palette; frame them with delicate illustrations or icons (champagne glasses, florals, hearts, or whatever fits your vibe); and place them thoughtfully on menus, signage, coasters, or even napkin rings.

Think of them as modern monograms: functional, fashionable, and a little bit magical.

QR codes might be tiny, but they pack a stylish punch. When done right, they blur the line between tech and sentiment, giving your guests something to discover, laugh at, and remember. They’re proof that digital can still be deeply personal.

Because with one little scan, you can turn a simple card into a love song, a laugh, or a lifetime memory.

From a message to a marriage

THE COUPLE

Rebecca & Nicolas

28 September 2024

A floral fairytale in soft pastels and gilded glamour, where an unexpected Instagram message became a timeless love story and a celebration straight out of a dream. Rebecca & Nicolas were married at Victory Church, Valletta, followed by a reception at Alfa Gardens, Attard.

A MESSAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Some love stories begin with a swipe, theirs began with fate. During the quiet days of COVID, Nicolas, a Frenchman visiting Malta, stumbled upon Rebecca’s photo on Instagram, no mutual friends, no connection, just destiny. “He sent me a message out of the blue,” Rebecca says. “And somehow, it flashed across my screen even though it should’ve gone to message requests. I thought, “Who is this handsome man?” They chatted for hours. He was due to leave Malta for St. Barths in two weeks… he never left.

WHEN FOREVER BEGAN & WHY NOW

They met by the iconic LOVE sign in St Julian’s, shared wine and stories until closing time, then bought another bottle and talked under the stars. “It felt like being teenagers again, but with better wine,” Rebecca laughs. From that night on, they met every day.

After life’s ups and downs, it felt like God’s timing to make it official. As Christians, they wanted their marriage to begin in faith. September promised perfect weather, and delivered. Even though Alfa Gardens didn’t yet have an indoor option, Rebecca trusted God and kept a Plan B ready. The day arrived calm, golden, and flawless.

A GOLDEN FAIRYTALE: DESIGN, VENUE & PLANNING

Rebecca envisioned an enchanted royal garden in soft pastels and baroque gold. Alfa Gardens (a hidden gem then, she was the first to book!) became the dream canvas. »

» Reuben Decor suspended chandeliers and cherry blossom trees, bathed the gardens in light, and framed an eight-tier cassatagreen cake adorned with handmade pink florals and leaves. Behind the scenes, HOLMA.mt planners Christe and Natalya orchestrated every cue and transition so the entire day flowed like a movie.

Invitations designed by her daughter Jade and printed by Foilplus resembled glossy magazine covers, sealed with golden bee-wax stamps, a nod to Malta, the Island of Honey. Guests received matching golden bee brooches as wearable keepsakes.

CEREMONY, WEDDING PARTY & MUSIC

The ceremony took place at the breathtaking Victory Church, Valletta, where Fr. Jimmy led a heartfelt multilingual service in English, Maltese, French, and Italian, uniting both families in faith and love. As Nothing Else Matters (Apocalyptica version) played live by a PDH Events trio, Rebecca walked down the aisle—escorted by her childhood best friends Alison Abela (founder of Pro DJ Hire & PDH Events) and Mandy, honouring her parents in heaven.

Her sister Maria stood as witness, with Caroline and Alex for Nicolas. Sinclair, her brother-in-law, was best man; bridesmaids Jade, Celine, Josianne, Chantal, Farrah, and Stephanie wore silky sage-green gowns beside groomsmen Robert, Adam, Gabriel, Alix, and Tassos. Their nephew Gabrielle carried the rings—a touching moment of pure grace.

FASHION & BEAUTY: OLD HOLLYWOOD MEETS LA DOLCE VITA

Rebecca designed her own silk, off-white gown, Old Hollywood meets La Dolce Vita, with a V-neck overlay, fluid silhouette, and front slit for movement. For the church, she added a three-metre silk cape with short sleeves and a Mandarin collar, plus a lacetrimmed veil. For the reception, she changed into a lace version with a rose-gold Swarovski crown and romantic “Juliette” hairstyle. Seamstresses Rose Calleja and Josephine brought her vision to life. Hair by Mark Stafrace & Charisse, makeup by Krista Paris, and bridesmaids’ looks by Vanessa Spiteri completed the elegant styling.

The Groom Collection suited Nicolas and the groomsmen in classic black with vintage chains and an antique Maltese-cross brooch from Rebecca. She wore Dune London heels, and Captain’s Cut Keith crafted an engraved leather belt as her gift to the groom. Bouquet talk: Rebecca hand-made her bouquet of off-white roses with gold embellishments and pearls. Bridesmaids carried pastelpink arrangements with green and gold accents. Church florals by Cristina Bellizzi mirrored the palette with ribbons and roses.

FOOD, COCKTAILS & CAKE

After months of tastings, Elia Caterers delivered a feast: endless canapés, a live gourmet burger and pizza station, and a hot apple-crumble bar with custard and toppings, a “makeyour-own apple pie” dream.

Damian’s Cocktails elevated the evening with signature creations, the white-chocolate cocktail and espresso martini were instant favourites.

ENTERTAINMENT, ENTRANCE & FIRST DANCE

With Alison Abela of Pro DJ Hire & PDH Events leading, the entertainment was cinematic. Strings & Co (featuring Matthew James & Nicole Frendo) performed a nine-piece set as the couple made their grand entrance to Crystallize and Experience

PDH Events added a baby grand piano, a DJ booth, and ambient lighting. The party never stopped, DJ JD Patric kept guests dancing till the end. Rebecca skipped choreographed routines: “I wanted to live the moment.” »

» For the first dance, a tribute to her late father, they chose Elvis Presley’s My Love With Marlon’s choreography and a burst of cold-spark fountains, it was magic. Brighter Image Weddings captured it all in cinematic style, while KitzKlikz Photography and Drone Malta framed every detail. Fireworks to Thunderstruck closed the night.

ARRIVALS, PHOTOS & LITTLE DETAILS

Guests arrived in style via Johns Malta: Rolls-Royce for the bride, Cadillac for the groom, Daimlers for the bridal party, and Mercedes for the family.

SayCijs Photobooth proved a hit, and the custom guest book remains a treasured keepsake.

Prep took place at Da Mare Resort & Spa, Xemxija, with sea-view serenity.

C.A.M.A.C Security ensured everything ran smoothly, while Vanessa Garcia Sztaba captured lively social-media moments throughout the day.

EXTRA SPECIAL MOMENTS

• Cats Sammy & Gigi stayed home (a cardboard-cutout idea was wisely shelved).

• The groomsmen accidentally took the wrong Daimler, a classic comedy moment.

• With no indoor backup, Reuben Decor prepped a flower-draped tent as Plan B. A friend monitored sea weather for two days, and it turned out perfect.

• Guests the next morning couldn’t stop talking about the food, cocktails, and dancing.

FAMILY, FAITH & FOREVER GRATEFUL

“My husband was my rock through every panic and 3 a.m. idea,” Rebecca says. “Jade was my right hand, souvenirs, invitations, latenight delivery runs!”

Maria (witness) and Sinclair (best man) spent days preparing invitations and fourlanguage Mass booklets; Maria surprised Rebecca with a heartfelt speech for their late mother, and together they secured an official Papal Blessing from the Vatican.

“And above all,” Rebecca says, “I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for guiding us, for watching over my parents that night, and for blessing our marriage. Their presence was felt in every detail.”

A love story brought to life, with gratitude to every member of the Dream Team

A three-day celebration of love, heritage & heart A three-day celebration of love, heritage & heart

THE COUPLE

Marie-Klaire & Stuart

21 June 2025

A timeless celebration of love, heritage, and Mediterranean magic –three days of elegance, emotion, and effortless joy.

Marie-Klaire and Stuart got married at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral in Valletta, followed by a reception at a private estate in Wardija.

A UNION OF TWO WORLDS

For Marie-Klaire Farrugia and Stuart Rousell, their wedding was more than a day — it was a celebration of belonging. Uniting British charm and Maltese warmth, their love story culminated in a spectacular three-day event across Malta, blending classic tradition with coastal glamour.

“Our families are from two very different worlds,” smiles Marie-Klaire. “But from the beginning, it just felt right. This wedding was our way of bringing everyone together — in one place we both now call home.”

THE CELEBRATION BEGINS

The festivities opened on Friday, 20th June, with a Sunset White Party at the Olive Gardens, Radisson Golden Sands — an evening of golden light, ocean views, and effortless style. Guests, all dressed in elegant white, sipped cocktails beneath palm trees as live music carried into the Mediterranean sunset.

“It felt like the start of a dream,” says Stuart. “That moment when everyone arrived — family from England, Malta, and beyond — it was pure magic.”

THE JOURNEY TO ‘I DO’

On the wedding morning, laughter echoed

through the Radisson as guests boarded three vintage Maltese buses, a nostalgic nod to island life. The bridal party travelled separately in gleaming Austin Princess Landau cars, a touch of old-world glamour that turned heads on Valletta’s cobbled streets.

Inside St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, sunlight streamed through the stained glass as Father David Wright led the ceremony. “It was sacred, emotional, and deeply meaningful,” recalls Marie-Klaire. “The cathedral has such history — it was the perfect setting for our vows.”

A CELEBRATION IN WARDIJA

After the ceremony, guests were whisked away to the Farrugia family home in Wardija, transformed into an elegant garden celebration framed by olive trees, manicured lawns, and panoramic countryside views.

A red carpet led into a chic poolside reception, where champagne flowed and the sound of a live band filled the air. Dinner for 130 guests followed beneath twinkling lights and the summer sky — long tables dressed in white linens, glowing candles, and lush floral arrangements by David Grech, creating a setting both luxurious and intimate.

“It was everything we imagined — warm, timeless, and full of heart,” says Marie-Klaire. “Every detail reflects who we are as a couple — classic, but never too serious.” »

STYLE, SIMPLICITY & GRACE

» Marie-Klaire’s bridal look epitomised understated elegance. She chose a custom gown in silk crepe and French lace, featuring subtle structure and a flowing silhouette that balanced modern refinement with timeless romance. Her hair was softly pinned, complemented by delicate pearl accessories — a nod to her Maltese heritage and love of classic style.

Stuart looked effortlessly sharp in a tailored black tuxedo, striking the perfect balance between British sophistication and Mediterranean ease. Together, they embodied a kind of elegance that felt both natural and cinematic.

FOOD, FAMILY, AND FOREVER MOMENTS

Dinner unfolded as the sun dipped behind the Wardija hills, a multi-course feast celebrating Maltese flavours and family traditions. “We wanted it to feel personal,” says Stuart. “Good food, good wine, and everyone we love, that’s what it’s about.”

As speeches filled the air with laughter and tears, the couple shared their first dance beneath the stars, a moment of quiet amid the joy. “It felt like everything stopped for a few minutes,” remembers Marie-Klaire. “Just us, the music, and the people who made it all possible.”

From there, the night transformed into a dance floor under the open sky, music, lights, and laughter spilling past midnight.

A SAIL INTO FOREVER

The celebrations didn’t end there. On Sunday, the newlyweds hosted a private yacht day aboard the Turkish Gulet “Faith 2”, setting sail from Fekruna Beach with their closest friends and family. Cruising along Malta’s turquoise coastline to Gozo and Comino, guests swam, danced, and toasted under the sun.

“It was the perfect ending,” says Marie-Klaire. “After all the planning and excitement, being on the water, surrounded by our favourite people, felt peaceful and joyful all at once.”

A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER

From the golden sunset at Golden Bay to the candlelight in Wardija, every moment of Marie-Klaire and Stuart’s wedding reflected intention, beauty, and deep connection.

“Looking back, what stands out most isn’t the big moments,” Stuart shares. “It’s the small ones, the laughter on the bus, the clinking glasses, our families meeting for the first time and instantly clicking. It was more than a wedding, it was the best weekend of our lives.”

A FRIENDSHIP THAT BLOOMED INTO FOREVER

Some love stories start with fireworks; theirs began with friendship. Kelly and Matthew met through mutual friends more than a decade ago and instantly clicked. “Matt made the first move,” Kelly laughs. “He told his mother that same day that there was something special about me, and he was right.”

Over eleven years together, their bond only deepened. “We’ve built a relationship on loyalty, respect, and always encouraging each other to grow,” says Matthew. “Getting married felt like the most natural next chapter.”

A CELEBRATION YEARS IN THE MAKING

After more than ten years side by side, the couple wanted their wedding to reflect everything they’d built together: laughter, love, and a life full of movement and meaning. “It wasn’t about having a big party,” Kelly explains. “It was about honouring our journey, celebrating the family we’ve created, and surrounding ourselves with people who have been part of that story.”

WARM TONES AND MAGIC MOMENTS

Set against the golden hues of October, their day embraced the romance of autumn. The colour palette of burned oranges, crisp whites, and honeyed gold created an atmosphere that was both warm and whimsical. “I wanted the setting to feel like a sunset come to life,” says Kelly. “Romantic, elegant, but still fun.”

Personal touches were woven into every moment, from custom gin bottles named after the couple to after-party sunglasses printed with inside jokes. Guests were greeted by a sign reading #lavidamagica, a nod to the couple’s mantra: “life is magic”.

THE MOMENT THEY SAID ‘I DO’

The couple exchanged vows at Lapsi Church in St Julian’s, a location that holds special meaning for Matthew. “It meant so much to say, ‘I do,’ somewhere that carries personal history,” Kelly says.

Walking down the aisle was a moment she’ll never forget. “I was walked by my father and surrounded by my entire bridal team: my sister, our daughter Alba, two goddaughters, and our bridesmaids,” she recalls. “It was emotional, beautiful, and completely overwhelming in the best way.”

Her brother, mother, and three-month-old nephew (carried by her brother) also joined the walk down the aisle, creating a truly special and family-filled moment.

And the groomsmen? The groomsmen were truly exceptional. In total, there were sixteen groomsmen, including the best men and close friends, who went above and beyond on the day by bringing water, collecting envelopes, keeping everyone calm, and ensuring that every moment ran smoothly.

Their close friend Tezera performed Ave Maria, while readings by lifelong friends made the ceremony deeply personal. “Our priest has known me since childhood,” Kelly adds. He spoke with such sincerity that the room was filled with tears.

TIMELESS STYLE WITH A PERSONAL TWIST

“Both of us love fashion,” says Kelly. “We wanted our looks to express who we are: classic with personality.” »

THE

COUPLE

Kelly & Matthew 11 October 2025

An autumn wedding is bursting with warmth, music, and heart – a celebration of family, fashion, and the kind of love that only grows stronger with time. Kelly & Matthew got married at Lapsi Church, St Julian’s, followed by a reception at Villa Arrigo.

» Kelly wore a French lace gown with a high neckline, long sleeves, and a softly flowing skirt—it was timeless, elegant, and uniquely hers. For something old, new, borrowed, and blue, she chose her mother-in-law’s pearls, a gift from her mother, and a sentimental blue piece from her nana.

Later, she changed into a short v-neck dress with a puffballoon silk skirt, paired with custom Mr & Mrs Pace sneakers, a festive twist for the dance floor.

Matthew looked sharp in a black tuxedo and bow tie, balancing modern style with classic tailoring. Kelly’s bouquet featured white roses and gypsophila, tied in silk to match her bridesmaids’ gowns.

A ROMAN PROPOSAL AND FOREVER RINGS

Matthew’s proposal was straight out of a movie: a romantic moment in Rome, surrounded by sunset and city lights.

“He’s always been the romantic one,” smiles Kelly. “It was perfect.”

Matthew’s ring, a gold band engraved with the infinity symbol, complements Kelly’s custom diamond band, the two designed to fit together just like them.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

The reception at Villa Arrigo was everything they dreamed of: elegant, spirited, and full of love. “We wanted everyone to dance, laugh, and feel part of something joyful,” says Matthew. Ivory linens, candlelight, and autumnal florals transformed the venue. “It felt like Tuscany met Malta,” Kelly says. “Warm, inviting, and glowing.”

FOOD, MUSIC, AND ALL THE FEELS

The menu reflected their shared love of food and connection with a focus on hearty, meat-inspired dishes, wood-fired pizza, Tuscan antipasti, and mini desserts that encouraged guests to mingle and enjoy.

Music played a central role throughout the night. The Brass House Unit set the tone, followed by powerhouse performances from Mariah Gerada, Kelsey Bellante, and a surprise appearance by Fabrizio Faniello, secretly arranged by Matthew.

And when the DJs took over, the energy soared. Ziggy & Funk, along with their close friends behind the decks, crafted a seamless set that kept guests on their feet until the early hours.

Their first dance, to Ordinary (Wedding Version), was an intimate, heartfelt moment. “It was just us; no one else existed,” Kelly recalls.

They followed it with The Way I Love You and danced together with their parents, Kelly’s siblings, their loved ones, and her nanna, ending beautifully in a circle surrounded by family and friends.

A DREAM TEAM MADE IT HAPPEN

Kelly and Matthew credit their incredible team for bringing their vision to life. “From our planner to the florist, makeup artist, and photographer, everyone worked so hard to make the day seamless,” says Kelly. “And our families were just amazingly supportive, loving, and full of energy from start to finish.”

Their two-year-old daughter Alba added her touch of charm to the day. “She’s such a funny little girl, full of life,” Kelly laughs. “But on the day, she wasn’t exactly the best flower girl she cried, got hungry, and wanted to be carried most of the time. It was chaos, but adorable chaos!”
