icki Bongiorno adds fresh, happy, and unexpected elements to her designs. Wildflower Retreat’s graphic palette of black and white accented with pops of colorful floral is inspired by the current lines at the fashion houses of Prada and YSL, and is a nod from Bongiorno to her mother. “My mom had a significant influence on me becoming an interior designer. She also dresses primarily in black and white. I think of this design as a special shout-out to her,” she says. Furniture pieces have a whimsical sophistication and are multifunctional pieces of art. Materials were chosen for their durability and beauty as well as the necessary function. The rattan and bamboo pieces were selected for Bongiorno’s love of retro design and a European seaside aesthetic. The focal point is an ebony limed-oak bed crafted by a local artisan. The 10-footwide by 6½-foot-tall headboard wall is also the backside of an elaborate built-in changing area. The changing area includes a large closet, a vanity, and a seat. Hanging space, shelves, and decorative baskets hold all essentials from outdoor recreational gear to elegant dinner attire, with everything in its place.
