Choosing a major can be stress-inducing and difficult since it is an important decision that could mark your life path.

Many students end up changing their majors and, according to some polls, 61% of college graduates would change their majors if they could go back – usually because they realize at mid-career that they don’t like what they chose.

So, before choosing a major, consider the things you like and if you can see yourself doing them in the future. It also helps to take into consideration the following things:

The most important thing to consider are your hobbies and abilities.

Some of us, from a very young age, can identify whether we like to do certain activities. For example, some students with degrees in studio art have been painting or drawing since a very young age. Other students, with degrees in business, liked having small business since they were in high school. These are just examples and not everybody can identify their interests this early. But if you can, then you should use it in your favor.

Now let’s expand a bit more as we try to help you find the right career path for you.

As we know, there is a popular “myth” about having left brain/right brain personality. It states that the left and right hemispheres of your brain rule polarizing functions within your personality. If you have a stronger left side, you’re more analytical. If you have a stronger right side, on the other hand, you are more likely to be creative.

Many people are predominantly left-brained or right-brained, and we have recommendations below for them. But what if you’re both creative and analytical? We’ve got you covered as well. Read on for our recommendations.

It is believed that the analytical side of the brain performs tasks that have to do with logic such as science and mathematics. If you did well in highschool courses that required critical thinking, this might apply to you. The important thing is if you actually enjoyed these classes and if you see yourself working in something related to that field in the future. Consider whether these characteristics match your personality:

If you’re more visual and intuitive and constantly have creative ideas and thoughts, you might have a creative personality. Being creative not only includes knowing how to draw and paint, but also includes activities that require you to think outside of the box.

The right hemisphere of the brain is responsible for cognitive functions such as processing visual shapes, patterns and emotions. Consider whether these characteristics match your personality:

Living in a dorm on campus is an exciting experience that will give you a chance to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone.

Dorm life is different from living with your parents, and it can take some time to adjust.

Eating and cooking in a dorm takes a little creativity, since LSU’s dorms don’t allow appliances with open heating elements. When you’re sick of eating cafeteria food and takeout, here are a few easy recipes you can make in your dorm with LSU-approved kitchen appliances.

Air Fryer Avocado Toast I know avocado toast has a bad reputation, but it’s one of my favorite quick breakfasts. Since LSU’s dorms don’t allow toasters, you can use an air fryer to toast your bread.

Ingredients • • • •

Bread Avocado Tomato Seasonings of your choice (I use salt, red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, minced onion, fresh cilantro, and a little lemon juice)

Directions • Set air fryer to 400° and put your bread in for 2-3 minutes.

• While your bread is toasting, mash up the avocado with a fork and slice the tomato.

• When the bread reaches your preferred level of toastiness, spread the avocado on, then add the tomato slices and seasonings.

1/4 cup flour 1 tbsp brown sugar 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/8 tsp salt Pinch of cinnamon 1/2 Tbsp butter 2 tbsp milk 1-2 tbsp frozen berries

Directions • In a microwave safe mug, stir together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until well mixed.

• Add the butter and mix until there are no clumps.

• Stir in the milk and add your berries.

• Microwave for about 90 seconds and enjoy!

8 oz baby cremini mushrooms (sliced) 8 oz button mushrooms (sliced) 1 cup yellow onion (diced) 1 cup carrots (diced) 2 cups potato (cubed) 2 cloves garlic (finely chopped) 1 tsp dried thyme 1 tsp ground sage 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper 1 cup vegetable broth 1/2 cup dry red wine 15 oz canned diced tomatoes 2 tbsp tomato paste 1/2 tsp Kitchen Bouquet 1/2 tsp Liquid Smoke 2 tbsp flour

Directions • Clean and cut all your vegetables, and add them to the crockpot.

• Measure and add vegetable broth, wine, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, kitchen bouquet, and liquid smoke.

• Add seasonings and spices.

• Stir well and cover. Cook on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 8 to 10 hours.

• Halfway through the cooking, scoop out some of the juice and mix the flour into it until it is blended. Pour it back into the stew and stir.

Campus is big, there are more people than you could possibly count, and some are on their own for the very first time.
