DUE TO LOVETT’S SMALL CLASS SIZE, WE DO NOT PROVIDE RANK. Lovett transcripts reflect (unweighted) raw grades on a 100-point scale. Weighted GPAs are calculated using the following scale: +7 for Honors, AP, and Post-AP.
GPA Weighting Scale Changes for Class of 2023
Lovett adopted a new weighting scale beginning in the 2020-21 school year. Below, you will find details regarding the previous scale and the recently implemented system. Please be aware that the previous scale weighting is reflected in all grades earned before the fall 2020 semester. • Weighted GPA Scale Prior to 2020 - 2021 School Year: +5 Honors and Post-AP, +10 AP • Weighted GPA Scale Implemented for 2020 - 2021 School Year: +7 for all advanced courses (Honors, AP, and Post-AP)

Pass/Fail Option for Seniors In order to encourage risk-taking, nurture student curiosity, shift student focus from grades to learning, and support student wellness, Lovett instituted a Pass/Fail option in the 2018-19 school year. Seniors who are enrolled in at least five academic classes may request to receive a Pass or Fail grade rather than a numerical grade for one course. If approved, the grade reported on the report card and transcript will be a P (70 or higher) or F (below 70). (This option is open only to seniors and only in the fall semester.)
COVID-19 Curricular Impact In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lovett transitioned to online learning in March of 2020. Our applicants’ spring 2020 academic results will appear with either a numeric grade (100 pt. scale) or a letter grade (100-90 = A, 89-80 = B, 79-70 = C, less than 70 = F). At the end of the semester, students were able to choose between their final numeric average or a corresponding letter grade. While letter grades are reflected on the Lovett transcript, they are not calculated in the students’ numeric weighted or unweighted GPA. Because virtual learning impacted each student differently, seniors have been advised to share specific concerns or challenges with college admission offices when appropriate. Thank you to your office and institution for extending flexibility and understanding for these issues, along with the grace shown to applicants whose academic and extracurricular records have been significantly disrupted. Our team will continue to work wilh college admission colleagues to provide the appropriate context for each applicant from Lovett.
