Four early graduates Crowds pack job fairs, staff excitement high receive diplomas
I
t may not have had the usual “pomp and circumstance” of the end of year graduation ceremony, but the diplomas presented to five Longview Early Graduation High School students are just as special. During the Longview ISD trustees meeting Monday, June 12, graduates were recognized by Principal Kristi Means. Means told students to never feel limited by their challenges, but to recognize every adversity as an opportunity to find a solution.

STAAR Test Results
L
ater, the board heard a report from Catina Love, District Testing Coordinator, on the percentage of students that have met the standard in each STAAR tested area.
“These preliminary results show that Longview students scored above the regional and state average in reading and math,” she said. “As happy as we are to see this positive growth, we’re still not where we want to be, but progress is continuing to be made.” EOC exams were administered in late March (English I and II) and early May (Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History). Students in grades 5 and 8 also were administered reading and math STAAR assessments in late March, and those who did not meet the passing standards retook the assessments in May. STAAR results have not been received for other tested subjects and grade levels.
