Huge thanks to Amy & Bec from AJ’s Mowing and Cleaning services, Zane from Williams Brothers Demolition, Brendon & Jayden from Handyman Maintenance, Idell Wadley, OCTEC disability employment, Domino’s Hatton Vale, and Laidley Bakery. My parents and I are so very grateful for your help. Kimberley Belford Better alternative for Mount Glen Rock I’M writing to you from Italy to express my strong concerns and objection about the Somerset Regional Council’s plan to develop Mount Glen Rock, in Esk, into a mountain adventure park (bike trails). I read that the Somerset Regional Council have plans to change this 208 hectares of natural beauty, into a $6.1 million Adventure Park! I understand that the majority of this 208 hectares beand secondary endangered koala habitat, along with threatened Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby habitat, and home to another 26 threatened It is the habitat of other native wildlife, including echidna, pretty-faced wallaby, of up to 3 species at a time, bandicoot, micro bats, and an abundance of bird life, including the rare squatter pigeon, wedge-tailed eagle, king parrot and yellow-tailed black cockatoo. So how is it possible this totally lacks long-term vision to protect and preserve the habitats of your native wildlife, especially those listed as endangered and threatened. Australia has the reputation of the highest documented species extinction of any country in the world and now is the time to make a change. There is a better alternative.Make Esk a koala hotspot, a tourism magnet for nature enthusiasts with rest stops and pathways through the From all over the world, we travel thousands of km to live, in your region, the unique experiences such as seeing a koala in the wild or other wildlife.Adventure or mountain biking park are found everywhere in the world, but koalas, roos, echidnas, wallabies, wombats and more are only found in the wild in Australia! This is our imagination when we plan to visit your country and region. This is our Australian dream!Soplease stop, this proposed destructive and unnecessary development that seeks to exploit the natural beauty and native wildlife habitats of town’s natural landmark, Mount Glen Rock. Fatal LawesCrash,
SOMERSET Regional Council’s (SRC) excitement for the South East Queensland City Deal, a 20-year partnership between eleven councils and the federal and state governments announced on March 21, has not lasted long.Inthe August 10 ordinary meeting SRC councillors said the State Government were ‘absolutely gutless’, ‘mean-spirited’ and ‘disgraceful’ after revelations by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). City Deal for the Somerset region was a $40.5 million investment for targeted safety upgrades along the 89.5km Brisbane Valley Highway (BVH). In the agenda for the August 10 ordinary meeting SRC stated it understood the $40.5M would be new investment, building upon $17.6M historic funding previously announced by the State Government (including $14.5M for safety upgrades between Fernvale and Blacksoil).During planning workshops in July 2022, TMR revealed the contribution to the BVH Safety Upgrades initiative by the State Government would include $14.5M historic funding previously announced and just $2.33M of new State funding. Councillor Bob Whalley said the $40.5M was intended to improve the highway in its entirety throughout Somerset.“It’sabsolutely wrong for the State Government not to honour this deal and I think the council of mayors are weak and gutless if they’re going to roll over right at the a city deal that they fought for three years to get, which was watered down initially from about 80% of what we originally asked for.” Cr WhalleyCouncillorsaid.Sean Choat concurred and said the State Government was ‘akin to the Grinch that stole Christmas’. “They are scrimping, and they are walking away from their responsibilities with regard to public safety,” Cr ChoatCouncillorsaid. Helen Brieschke said even she avoids travelling along the BVH at night for safety concerns. “Every other week council is bagged by our community… on social media about the highway when ultimately it is not our responsibility,” Cr Brieschke said. “It’s a shame that some of those people could not see those comments on a weekly basis which is quite disheartening.”SRC plans to write the State Government and ministers to express the region’s disappointment and to seek for the State to make new funding available for the project.
