Thanks and Merry Christmas
DEAR Community, we would like to thank you for your support of our small (18 members) but mighty QCWA Glenore Grove group.
The Queensland Country Women’s Association, Glenore Grove Branch is alive and kicking thanks to our many community supporters.
To those who buy our plants, handmade and baked goods from our monthly stall in the IGA mall at Gatton (on the morning of the 4th Thursday) and to those who attend our other fundraising events, we thank you.
We could not do it without you.
What do we do? you may ask.
We have supplied extra stationery (pens, pencils, crayons) to the Glenore Grove Primary School for the start of the school year as we believe kids still love to draw and they tend to run out of pencils.
We have given travel and nonessential nice things to Share the Dignity.
We have given a large supply of home-made knitted bears to the Gatton hospital for our smaller members of the communi-
the emergency room.
We have donated supermarket coupons to the Community Centres at Gatton and Laidley.
We would also like to thank our volunteer, Roz. You are a godsend and we love you dearly.
We meet every Monday of the month, 1pm, whether it be for a meeting or craft at the QCWA hall Glenore Grove. All welcome.
Judith,Secretary, Glenore Grove QCWA.
Well done Forest Hill CONGRATULATIONS to the Community of Forest Hill! We were there on Friday [December 2] night for dinner and took the grandchildren to the park to look at the Christmas lights –what an amazing display!
The lights were so beautiful and the lawn in the park area was phenomenal! I have never seen such beautiful, thick, cushiony lawn! The children loved running and falling on the soft lawn – they loved the chance to play on such a beautiful area.
Congratulations to whoever is responsible for this wonderful lawn, and to those who plan and care for the park area – it is a real asset to this lovely town. Homes within the town also had amazing Christmas light displays – all contributing to a wonderful evening in Forest Hill. Thank you to the community of Forest Hill.

Small museum tells big stories
BY GRACE CRICHTON
A FRESH LOOK is on the way for Toogoolawah History Museum.
Toogoolawah and District History Group invited guests to a ‘sneak peek’ of the refurbishments on Wednesday December 7.
The group’s extensive collection has been removed from the Cressbrook Street museum, ready to be sorted for a newly curated display.
Through a Regional Arts Development Fund grant, the group hired museum curator Jayne Keough to revitalise the museum’s displays.
Ms Keough said people do not always appreciate or understand the importance of small museums, like Toogoolawah’s.
“It’s one of thousands of museums across Australia and all around the world,” she said.
“They’re very important to communities because they tell the story of the people in the community.
“It’s the smaller parts
of life that otherwise, once we’re gone, they will be gone as well.
“And the objects that these museums have are so important because they tell the story.
“They tell the story of the people who came here, our ancestors.”
The old railway building that houses the museum has been emptied and all artefacts stored safely, and the interior has a fresh coat of crisp white paint.
Ms Keough said she and the volunteers would catalogue, reinstall, and digitise the museum’s collection of
artefacts.
Famous cyclist Les Cecil’s story is currently on display, including his bicycle.
“It’s only a small taste, it’s
Keough said.

The funding is part of the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment of $85 million per year under the Bridges Renewal Program.

“The 80-year-old World War Two era Lester Kropp Bridge has been assessed as being in very poor condition,” Mr Neumann said.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann welcomed the Commonwealth funding
contribution.
“We are one of only four Queensland councils to receive funding in this round of the program, so this is a real coup for the Somerset,” Cr Lehmann said.

The group intend to digitally catalogue all the items in their collection.

Ropeley Cemetery
WHAT do you know about the Ropeley Scandinavian Lutheran Cemetery?
Gatton and District Historical Society president Gail Chalker said they are looking for the current trustee.
“The last trustee that we can ago,” she said.
“There are only about 22 to 24 residents in there that we
the headstones are in German.”
The cemetery on Ropeley Rockside Road was in use for a brief time in the early 1900s.
“I don’t know why it became disused,” Mrs Chalker said.
“Then it went over to the Ropeley Lutheran Cemetery which is further up.”

Restocking the cod into the Brisbane River
THE Somerset Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association (SWFSA) partnered with Ipswich City and Scenic Rim councils and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to repopulate the Brisbane River with cod on Tuesday December 6. -
lings from Hinternoosa Hatchery were released at sections of the Bremer
River and Warrill Creek to reintroduce an apex predator to local rivers.
SWFSA president Garry Fitzgerald said the Brisbane River cod has been extinct since 1940 due to use of land and waterways.
“We’re replacing the Brisbane River cod with Mary River cod and they think they’re genetically
almost the same… they’re only separated by about 10,000 years,” he said.
“We’re placing them here to get that apex predator back in the waterway, which improves the water quality.

Council mo’s raise dough
LOCKYER Valley Regional Council’s (LVRC) Mo Bros and generous supporters have raised more than $2,000 for men’s health as part of Movember.
‘The Valley Mo Bros’ exceeded their $500 target, receiving an extra boost at a Movember staff morning tea.
LVRC Mayor Tanya Milligan thanked the men who grew moustaches during November to help this cause.
“I applaud our hairy helpers who grew whiskers and wonderful staff who continue to donate generously to these worthy causes,” she said.
“To quadruple their original target is an amazing result, and I can’t wait to see if we can beat this impressive tally next year.”
Movember invests in the four critical health areas confronting men: mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Her work is a collection of landscapes and wildlife, from the red centre to the ocean, from ants to humpback whales.

Conversely, one of her favourite experiences was taking a large scale aerial shot of the shipwrecks off Moreton Island.
“Someone asked me recently where was my favourite place that I’ve photographed,” Michelle said.
“It’s not the place, it’s the experience that I have.”

A life full of family, farm, footy
YOU ALWAYS heard Bill McNeil before you saw him with his loud infectious laugh and cheeky grin.
He had a wicked sense of humour and was known for laughing at his own jokes.
William John McNeil was born in Gatton hospital on December 12, 1937.
The youngest of four boys to Joe and Maud McNeil, he had a typical upbringing on the family farm at Tenthill, still farmed by the fourth generation of McNeils.
In recent years, he was proud to be working that farm with three generations side by side.
Surrounded by loving family, he spent his early years getting into mischief including stories of his pet kangaroo Tyghe and riding his horse
Tenthill school before Gatton Convent.
Following the loss of brother Des and the early passing of Archie, Kevin and Billy formed a strong, loud and full of life partnership that farmed for four decades before Bill and Niree took over the farms when Kevin retired.
Bill was a bit of a lad in his early years and would do the Lockyer Dance Supper Circuit.
It was at a Glenore Grove Dance in 1959 that he met the love of his life Niree
Haug. They at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Gatton on April 27, 1963 and have been married for 59 years.
Bill and Niree always tackled life as a team and built their home on the farm with the help of family and friends which remained their happy family home.
Here they raised their three children John, David, and Louise who enjoyed a loving and supportive father who gave them every opportunity.
Bill’s greatest pride was his family, including his
eight grandchildren Damian, Nicholas, Scott, Brent, Zara, Jack, Kate, and Sarah, who continued to provide Bill with great joy and constant entertainment, especially at family gatherings such as Easter and Christmas.
Bill prided himself on growing quality produce and had very high standards on the family farm which still exist today.
If these expectations were not met, he would explode with an infamous expletive laden signature Bill spray at anyone in the vicinity, whether worker or family.
Following Bill’s version
LAIDLEY FAMILY DOCTORS
of retirement, he remained the self-appointed McNeil
and would turn up every day to inspect what was going on and give his opinion whether he was asked or not.
He was always excited to be helping out on the farm but workplace health and safety wasn’t his forte.
Bill loved rugby league and in his younger years he played for Gatton and was a part of the triple premiership winning team from ‘57-‘59.
He continued his love of the game throughout his life and could be heard yelling at the Broncos and Queensland
in the State of Origin.
This passion for rugby league extended to the local community and was continued when his sons started playing Junior Rugby League.
He was a past president and life member of the Gatton Junior Rugby League club.
He was instrumental in the naming of the Gatton Leagues Club ground “Cahill Park” after Father Jim Cahill and part of the committee that obtained the liquor license for the Leagues Club to ensure its continued success.
Bill was a past president,
Life Member and one of the original founding members of the Gatton Leagues club. Neither his heart attack in 2001 nor COVID slowed Bill down.
He disregarded the lockdowns by putting a few bales of hay on the ute and called himself an essential worker.
He was a creature of habit but was always excited to have new adventures and discoveries with his grandkids, including brekky wraps, voice activated remote control only to Sky Racing and he even learned the TAB app on his mobile to ensure he never missed a tip.
horse racing passed down from his parents who shared that same passion.
He owned and raced horses for over 40 years and during that time made lifelong friends in the industry.
He achieved his ambition to breed, race and win a Saturday Metropolitan Race in Brisbane.
Bill was a loving husband, father, son, brother, pop, and a great mate.
He was always willing to lend a hand and was extremely generous.
Bill will be forever his wife’s greatest love, sons’ hero, daughter’s joy, and grandchildren’s inspiration.
Everyone has a special story or memory of Bill and those who loved and treasured him will draw comfort knowing that he now has Eternal Rest.

Shed the stigma around mental health medication
When serotonin, the mood control chemical in our brain is depleted, depression can set in.
BY MIKE NOWLAN VOLUNTEER BEYOND BLUE SPEAKER
AT A recent address that I gave on mental health, it became obvious to me in the discussions following that many people had little understanding of the medication that they were taking.
Now I am not sure if that is the GP’s fault or the patient’s fault, or both, but it was obvious that some people were taking medication and hoping.
family of medication can be prescribed to rebuild and maintain the serotonin level.
Some people call this
others just call them happy pills.
Neither description does justice to the result that this medication can achieve.
People who experience depression or extreme variations of emotions are usually serotonin depleted due to an emotional or physical trauma that they have experienced.
Medical science shows that our bodies unfortunately
do not naturally replace the serotonin.
GPs can prescribe medication that will do that and help to maintain the required level of serotonin in our brain, giving a more relaxed approach to life, and greater peace to those around us.
We need to forget about the stigmas of mental health and treat these issues as just another health problem.
GPs who can take the time to explain these things to a patient do so much good in the healing process.
It is not what goes wrong in your life that matters. What counts is how you deal with it.

MULGOWIE and Ropehill cricketers will don pink for their Pink Stumps Day at Mulgowie Cricket Grounds on December 17.
Pink Stumps Day is the McGrath Foundation’s largest community fundraising campaign where cricket clubs turn their cricket game pink to fundraise.
Mulgowie Cricket Club president Alex Emmerson said a local suggested the club hold a Pink Stumps Day and the community has ‘jumped on board’.
“We’re trying to be more involved with our local community and get involved in a few more things as a club to bring morale up,” he said.
“The whole community has jumped on board to make it happen.”
The one-day match will start at 11.30am and include raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
“Ropehill jumped at the chance,” Alex said.
“They wanted to be involved with us.”
Alex thanked the businesses, sponsors, and community members who have contributed to making the day happen.
“I’m very overwhelmed by the amount of support we’ve got,” he said.
“Not only for the fundraiser but from the local community in trying to make it happen.
“All the sponsors, and all
the local community members who are going out of their way to help.”
With the Twilight Markets on in the evening, it will be a great day out whether you’re a cricket fan or not.
McGrath Foundation Am-
bassador and Director Tracy Bevan said the foundation’s mission is to ensure no one goes through breast cancer without the care of a breast care nurse.
“Without their ongoing enthusiasm and commitment,
we wouldn’t be able to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities where they’re needed most,” she said.
“With 73 more nurses needed... the support of these local clubs is more vital than ever.”
Cricket turns pink for charity day

Bushfood tourism booming
BY GRACE CRICHTON
NATIVE Oz Bushfoods are harnessing public interest in agritourism and native Ausfarm tours.
They opened their gates this year.
Tracey and Doug Goebel transformed their 40-acre Ropeley sheep and cattle property into a bushfood orchard after the drought made them reconsider their options.
“We had to work out what we could do quick to keep our income going,” Doug said.
“So we got rid of our cattle and sheep, well, the dingoes took care of the last of our sheep.”
Doug turned to what he knew best: bushfood.
In 2018 Native Oz Bush-
food was born, and they have grown from three initial prod-
Doug is a Bundjalung man and his people’s land is in New South Wales and into southeast Queensland.
Growing up he was always with the Uncles and Aunties, and learning from his father. Doug and Tracey have yard and intend to expand.
“We’re looking to put at least 20 [acres] under bush
food,” Doug said.
“I’ve got another block I’ve just started planting trees into.”
While selling their product at markets, people expressed an interest in visiting.
“People are really interest-
ed in what we do here,” Doug said.
“We grow normal veggies in between the trees as well.
“It’s all about diversity.”
Tracey said they are

They received a tourism grant and a commercial was shot for international promotion.

“If something happens and they need to go back to basics, I want them to know what’s in my head and what’s out there.”

owner of this immaculate 1972 HQ SS.
Glenn told me he purchased this around 18 months ago and got straight into to the sandblasters to get it ready for paint.
Glenn said the original colour coded Infra-red paint was done by Ken Fox from Laidley Heights.
While the paint was being done, Glenn had time to send the motor and gearbox to Michael Vaughan at American Direct Parts in Rosewood for a motor rebuild and to freshen up the gearbox and new clutch.
Meanwhile, the interior was sent to Brad at Shed Threadz, Laidley Heights.
All new foam for front and rear seats, trimmed in Roebuck vinyl, with Houndstooth inserts.
The doors have new masonite door cards wrapped in Roebuck as well.
A new roof lining was installed and new carpets, underlay, and deadna cover
After all this was done, it was up to Glenn to put all the goods back together to make
this HQ SS what it is today.
He said there were many hours of polishing chrome and all the small bits and pieces people don’t think
about when restoring cars.
It took quite a few purchases from Rare Spares to complete this project.
“Think I was making them
rich,” Glenn jokingly said.
The car has been kept as original as possible. It isn’t the matching number motor but it is a period
matching QR coded 253 motor and M20 4 speed box. Glenn said he had a love for early Holdens from the time he got his licence.
Early HQs were one of his favourites of them all.
Glenn admits to owning hundreds of cars over his lifetime of driving.
Now he wishes he kept a great deal more of his favourites.
Kingswood, Glenn said, then he moved onto one he wish he kept: a HT Monaro Bathurst Edition with the 350 Chev and 4 speed Saginaw. He taught his wife Lyn to drive in this one.
What a car to learn in.
Glenn belongs to the Ipswich Muscle Car Club and likes to do more short distance runs and meets around the local area.
That’s where the Gatton Spare Parts Auto Pro team comes in handy!Their wide range of parts, accessories, oils and services are availableat a great price too –so you can get your pride and joy all fixed upwithout breaking the bank.

December 12-18, 2022
ARIES
Mercury, Venus and Pluto are visiting your career zone, so aim to be more curious, creative and strategic at work. If you slow down, stagnate or procrastinate, then you’ll just be left behind. The Sun/Saturn connecand discipline to turn your abstract ideas into line between communicating your ideas with plenty of passion … and being completely misunderstood.
TAURUS
The Sun/Saturn link (on Monday and Tuespresentations and investigations. But – with Mars reversing through your money zone –
Mercury and Uranus encourage you to express your original, authentic, talented Taurean self. Be inspired by birthday great Taylor Swift (who was born on December 13, 1989): “If you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change.”
GEMINI
With Mars reversing through your sign, conserve your energy and try to get lots of sleep. Geminis can be rather gullible … especially this week when nebulous Neptune scrambles your Reality Radar and deactivates your BS Detector. So be careful you’re not led up the primrose path to plenty of trouble – especially involving work and career or love and romance. If something (or someone) sounds too good to be true, then start running in the opposite direction!
CANCER
Mercury, Venus and Pluto are all powering through your relationship zone. So the buzz words this week are companionship and conversation, as you get deep and meaningful with your partner, chat with family members, fraternise with friends and/or catch up with acquaintances. Be inspired by this week’s birthday great, novelist Jane Austen: “My idea of good company is the company of clever, well-informed people who have a great deal of conversation.”
LEO
It’s a good week to make amends with a friend or colleague who you may have (unintentionally) offended. If you eat some humble pie, then the relationship will head in a positive new direction. It’s also time to share pleasurable activities with a loved one. Whether it’s a movie, a concert, a delicious meal or stimulating conversation, make it a priority to have fun together. But Neptune squares the Sun mid-week, so avoid sending out ambiguous messages.
VIRGO
Mars (the planet of confrontation) is currently reversing through your public/reputation zone. So you could encounter problems with colleagues, clients or customers (or with argumentative people on social media). Don’t waste time worrying or retaliating! As birthday great Taylor Swift reminds us: “Haters gonna hate.” Just shake it off and get on with the business of living a positive, vibrant Virgo life. The weekend favours travel, education and communication.
LIBRA
This week – despite some confusing moments with colleagues or friends – home is where the heart is. Family matters and DIY projects are favoured, as your ruler, Venus, joins Mercury and Pluto in your home zone. So do your best to keep the lines of communication wide open with relatives from near and far. A troubled child, teenager, lover or friend is waiting to hear some diplomatic advice from the heart. And you’re just the person to give it!
SCORPIO
Courtesy of nebulous Neptune and retrograde Mars, money matters look rather confusing this week. If you’re expecting funds from other people, then be prepared to wait. And, if someone else is managing your money,
and know exactly what’s going on. It’s not a good time to borrow funds, lend money, buy real estate or make a major purchase. But it is an appropriate time to research, revise and recalibrate.
SAGITTARIUS
Sagittarius – sign of the Archer, traveller, teacher and seeker – which will boost energy
due to retrograde Mars). But Neptune squares the Sun, so situations (and people) are not as they seem. And a family member may try to pull the wool over your eyes. Smart Sagittarians will dismiss surface appearances and look beneath the surface to discover what’s really going on!
CAPRICORN
Saturn (your patron planet) provides a welcome energy surge this week when your words and wisdom have the power to move other people in profound ways. You’re keen to persuade someone to do something, but are they ready for your serious (and sometimes controlling) approach? Venus is vamping through your sign so clever Capricorns will be
magnetic personality and natural charm to get others onside.
AQUARIUS
Your home life looks lively this week, as Uranus (your ruler) and Mercury stir up your domestic zone. Uninvited guests could also drop in. And things are likely to become messy and disorganised (especially involving friends -
munication. You might get confused and makepens, expect the unexpected, accept changes with good grace and adapt accordingly!
PISCES
It’s time for proactive Pisceans to make exciting plans and set solid goals. Go for gold, as the Sun and Saturn help you envision (and pursue) ambitious dreams and creative
on reality this week otherwise you could delude yourself about a person or situation, especially involving work or money. In order to avoid disappointing yourself (and others) do your best to stay on top of facts and leave fantasy for the movies.
