THE ULURU Statement from the Heart (Document 14 - 26 Pages), the document at the very heart of this Voice to Parliament Referendum, relates to Indigenous people wanting to get even, revenge, reparations, payback, compensation, a % of GDP and Makarrata Punishment for Invasion of their Countrythis Document sets out their demands for compensation etc and you owe it to yourself to go online and read all 26 pages of it before you vote.

If a Public Yes Vote gets up it means the Australian people will give the Parliament and the Cabinet permission to interpret and legislate the Voice’s ‘Composition, Functions, Powers and Procedures’ in the back room behind closed doors AFTER the Referendum Vote, where a ‘Voice comprising 24 members of a newly enacted Aboriginal Parliament with shared Constitutional Sovereignty Powers’ could be legislated and enshrined in our Constitution behind our backs due to the lack of detail about the composition of the Voice and how it would be implemented in the Constitution being deliberately kept from the Australian public by Albanese prior to the Referendum Vote.

I liken this to buying a car where you sign the contract, pay the money then take it for a test drive as you drive off the lot.

Shared Constitutional Sovereignty would automatically deliver (a % of GDP Wealth) to First Nation’s people which is what they want as stated in The Uluru Statement from the Heart 26 Page Document No 14 which Albanese insists is ‘only a 1 Pager’ because he hasn’t even bothered to read the other 25 Pages of document to which he has arrogantly stated ‘why would I?’.

Albanese is pushing for a constitutional change to our Nation’s Constitution and he’s not even across the full detail of his own Referendum.

I have with a clear conscience have to Vote No, a Yes Vote under these circumstances is far too risky.

In reply to Mr. Fifoot’s, letter of August 23

MR FIFOOT is fanning the his snapshot of Aboriginal history with its half-truths and lack of facts.

Her favourite models are cats, whether do-

both the black and white sides.

The Aboriginals are far better off now than they were pre-English colonisation.

We need to focus on how side gaining privilege and the other paying for it.

The important issue is to aim for equal opportunity for all Australians without racism, prejudice or privilege.

The Prime Minister’s plan to help the Aboriginals can be achieved without amending the constitution and setting up another government department which bypasses normal parliamentary approvals.

Learning from forums on The Voice

I HAVE had the privilege this week of travelling around the Federal Electorate of Blair with my friend, Shayne Neumann MP, speaking at Community Forums on the Voice Referendum.

We listened carefully to all comments and questions, no matter whether they favoured YES or NO and did our best to provide unbiased answers.

It was good to get a feeling of the issues that concern people and be of some help

mestic (particularly her own ‘Cleo’), or wild, and they are the focus of this exhibition.

Ellen has no preferred medium, happily dabbling in all of them, particularly mixed media. Ellen started exhibiting her art work in 2019 and has won many awards.

Please support Ellen’s art by visiting the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during September.

decide how they will vote.

My personal position is that having been born and bred in the bush and enjoyed valued friendships with Indigenous people, I have long understood their humiliation about the fact that they have not been recognised in the Constitution of Australia and I can clearly accept that there is a need to correct that omission.

I share with them their love of land and water and all aspects of the environment. They have taught me a lot about my responsibility to be

So, I think it is a good move to give them a Voice so long as that Voice has no political power.

It’s quite simple really. The main obstacles to success with the referendum are not the rights and wrongs of Voice.

It is the fact that many voters fear change and they have a low opinion of politics. So, they may vote accordingly.

These are crucial issues that Shayne and I discussed with the voters of Blair, and will continue to discuss with Australians everywhere - in a civil and courteous manner, in the future.

Laidley Crisis Care and Accommodation, run by Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ), experienced a 44% increase in enquiries over the past year.

Several factors contributed to the increase,

and housing crises, and many people leaving metropolitan areas in favour of more affordable rentals in regional areas, putting strain on the rental market.

Laidley Crisis Care and Accommodation Program acting coordinator Nicole Smith said they had not

“With the low vacancy rates, high competition rates, and increases to weekly household costs, it for regular families in Queensland,” she said.

The centre experienced an increase in the number

of people seeking support who had not previously had any issues paying their rent and have a good rental history, some of whom have lived in their homes for many years.

BlueCare celebrates 70 years of service

BLUECARE Centres and the Uniting Church throughout Queensland held celebrations in August to mark theversary.

The Blue Nursing Service started when just one nurse, Olive Crombie from the West End Methodist Mission in Brisbane, took a tram to visit a patient in their own home.

There are now more thanteers in Queensland providing aged, disability, and community care.

Celebrations were held in Gatton, Toogoolawah, Rosewood, and Lowood, to mark

John’s been looked after well

AT NINETY-SIX years of age, John Pratt is BlueCare Gatton and Lockyer Community Care’s oldest resident, but everyone knows he’s young at heart.

John joined BlueCare in 2007 and said he has been looked after very well.

He still lives at home, and visits the centre every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“I enjoy it and I make a lot of friends,” John said.

He loves creating, playing games and going on trips with BlueCare.

“We get on the bus on a Friday, we don’t know where we’re going to go,” he said.

“I say ‘let the driver choose… wherever she takes us, that’s where we’re going’.

“You never know from one week to the next what’s going to happen.”

Despite his age, John is still very lively.

“I can bend over and touch my toes, a lot of people say I can’t but I can do it,” he said.

“I’ll be here for another few years I hope.”

Petra loves her job and the residents

FOR ALMOST 33 years, BlueCare nurse Petra Oligmuller has proudly served Toogoolawah Alkira Aged Care Facility’s residents.

Ms Oligmuller joined Alkira’s team just six months after it opened in June 1990.

Ninety-six-year-old BlueCare Gatton and Lockyer Community Care resident John Pratt with daughter Janet Howe.

“I started off in the dementia wing for a while, then I was doing the mowing and gardening before I became permanent and worked in the dementia wing for over ten years,” she said.

“I’m proud to have been here for this long.

“I love my job and I love the residents.”

Ms Oligmuller said she was proud to have worked with BlueCare for long enough to celebrate its 70th anniversary.

She said her job was all about giving residents the best care possible, keeping them happy and providing them with independence.

“It’s all about being there for them when things go wrong,” she said.

“We’re part of their family.”

Opera meets country and comedy

OPERA Eagles Nest returns to Laidley this month for a new rousing performance set to entertain and delight.

‘I Will Always Love You’

feel-good matinee show, full of the great singing and loads of laughs we have come to expect from the very popular performance company.

The touring company has joined with Laidley groups Something to Sing About Choir and Lockyer Regional Performing Arts.

Lockyer Regional Performing Arts production manager Brian Crichton said the company received excellent feedback after their visit to Laidley last year.

very professional, and wonderful voices’ were just some of the comments from our audience last year,” he said.

“We are very pleased Opera Eagles Nest will once again be joined by local choir ‘Something to Sing About’ for this performance on Saturday September 30 at the

Laidley Cultural Centre.”

A popular mix of country music, opera and comedy is showcased in the beautifully sung and humorously performed ‘I Will Always Love You’.

features songs from the movie musical ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’.

The second half includes songs from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ enhanced with a splash of country songs by Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson,

and John Denver.

No stopping the Mulga Bull Ride

THE MULGA Bull Ride is back again for another thrilling night of rodeo entertainment on Friday September 15.

The Mulgowie Hotel has hosted the bull ride twice a year for well over two decades, and it doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.

Mulgowie Hotel manager Sarah Croker said the pub regularly attracted more than 1,500 spectators to the National Rodeo Association (NRA) event.

“It’s been run like this for a very long time, well and truly over a decade,” she said.

“It falls in as part of the NRA’s rodeo and bull ride circuit.”

Fearless riders will rack up points in the Bull Ride and Novice Bull Ride, and the up-and-coming cowboys

Under 15, and 7-U12 competitions.

Ms Croker said she was pleased to carry on support-

ing the sport and the rodeo community, as well as provide a great night out.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for young families to experience a bull ride,” she

said.

“We are certainly open to younger families coming in at the beginning of the night.

“It’s a great opportunity for a party.”

Pre-purchasing tickets is a must – the Mulga Bull Ride is always a sell-out event. Camping is available at the Mulgowie Hall grounds for a small fee.

Amber, 23, said she was

“It came as an utter surprise as I didn’t expect to win,” she said.

“But I went into the competition with everything I’ve got and when I did win, I was taken aback and a little bit emotional.

“I felt a sense of pride to represent the West Moreton and Brisbane Valley region.”

Amber has tackled judging and parading with gusto and wants to make the most of her opportunities.

“I take every opportunity

to do judging and parading before I get too old to compete,” she said.

Competing at the Ekka placed her among the best of the best.

the level of competition was something else, to be up against the best young judges from around the state,” she said.

“Whereas, the small country shows not as many young people take the opportunity to showcase their talents.

“The young prime judges competition was quite well organised and the organisers explained how it was going to be run.”

Amber started showing cattle with her school show team and since graduating,

has worked with a Droughtmaster stud and is now with TLC Fitting Service while also studying.

“I can see myself working in some sort of capacity in the ag industry as I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at The University of Queensland,” she said.

Amber said the support of her mentors made her achievement possible.

“None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for my show parents, Troy, Tracey and Robert Nuttridge of TLC Fitting Service for giving me endless opportunities and mum for driving to multiple shows to support and encourage me,” Amber said.

LOCKYER VALLEY

vegetable operation Barden Farms was named one of 24 successful businesses to receive a Rural Economic Development (RED) Grant under Round Five of the Queensland Government program.

Barden Farms will producely with a bespoke harvesting and cooling machine and create up to 24 full-time jobs thanks to the funding.

Barden Farms managing director Andrew Drummond said the new equipment would enable the enterprise to harvest, bag and cool lettuce in the morning for export that night.

“We envision the new equipment to be a one-stop

harvesting aid, enabling us to grow, cool and pack quality

tions,” he said.

The new harvesting and cooling system will be used at Barden Farms’ Gatton site during winter, Nobby site during summer, and Inglewood site during the remainder of the year, creating up to 24 full-time jobs.

“The project will create up to 24 full-time jobs including farm labourers and harvest supervisors, and it is also expected to create a range of indirect jobs in agronomy, freight, and horticultural suppliers,” Mr Drummond said.

“The new labourers won’t need to be experienced farm workers, because the modern

harvesting machine makes it simple to operate, grade and pack produce.”

The machine is expected to be up-and-running by next year.

Spring Show ‘n’ Shine to delight enthusiasts

THE Laidley Recreational Reserve will be transformed into a mecca for car lovers with dozens of vehicles expected to roll into town for the Spring Show ‘n’ Shine car show.

A wide array of makes and models including classic, custom, hot rods, muscle and vintage cars will be on display for the show, which will be held on Saturday September 9 from 9am-1pm.

HSV Nation Club member Zack Perkovic, who will have his two machines at the show, encouraged the public to come down and inspect all the impressive cars on display.

“We will be one of the car

clubs there on the day, and I estimate we will have roughly 20 vehicles from our club on display,” he said.

“We have members from all over southeast Queensland attending, including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich

Festival to create lots of buzz in Forest Hill

FOREST Hill will be buzzing with excitement at the inaugural Bee Happy Day celebrations.

Held as part of the Laidley Spring Festival, Bee Happy Day is a free family-friendly event which showcases the magic of bees and the important role they play in our ecosystem.

The event will be held at the Forest Hill School of Arts Hall on Sunday September 10 from 8.30am-12pm.

Boasting a jam-packed program, families

can expect lots of live entertainment, art and craft workshops, a beekeeper talk, face painting, balloon twisting, artisan markets and food trucks.

One of the highlights of the morning will be a special theatrical performance called ‘A Bee Story’, featuring artists from Brisbane’s Cluster Arts.

Cluster Arts Director

Debbie Wilks said the show was full of fun and surprises for the audience to enjoy.

“This uniquely Australian

story is a kaleidoscope of circus, acrobatics, dance and live music with important educational messages involving the environment, sustainability and community spirit,” Ms Wilks said.

Several food trucks will also be in attendance selling breakfast and morning tea options including a brekky BBQ, mini pancakes, coffee, fresh juices, carnival inspired treats, donuts and many more goodies.

Top performers in festival of nostalgia

THE HISTORIC Leyburn

Sprints were host to more than 220 street cars on August 19-20, including several Lockyer drivers.

Jayden Manteufel performed well again in the 2001-3500cc class in his fourth year at Leyburn.

“I’ve been lucky enough, with the car I’ve built myself, to get on the podium four times in a row,” Jayden said.

“In the previous years I went third, third, second, and second again this year.”

Jayden drove a 1979 Holden VB Commodor (best lap00:56.270), with an identical paint scheme to his father Craig’s 1985 VK Commodore (00:57.243).

Jayden said he was determined not to be a bridesmaid next year, to go one better and ‘get it done’.

“We have plans to keep racing these cars, and to

hopefully go on to the Queensland Touring Car Championship,” he said.

Fellow Lockyer driver

Keith Edwards took his John Bowe Caterpillar 600 replica

touring car to the sprints.

“Someone sent the photo to John and he said the car looks awesome, so I felt pretty proud about that,” Keith said.

“I think the crowd on Saturday was just unbelievable.”

Keith said Leyburn hosted some very old and relatively modern cars in the festival of nostalgia.

“The times that were set were awesome, there were some terribly quick cars there,” he said.

Keith’s best lap in the 3501-5000cc class was

01:04.939, while fellow Bathurst replica car drivers

Tim Linnan and Wayne Bell won 1st (00:56.183) and 2nd (00:56.350) respectively in the over 5000cc class.

MOORE WEEKLY STARS

September 4-10, 2023 ARIES

With your ruler Mars in your relationship zone, being proactive about solving problems is the key to positive partnerships. Stop procrastinating and, instead, start communicating about what you really require. Don’t expect other people to magically read your mind. Be articulate and ask plenty of questions. Venus also turns direct in your self-expression zone. So it’s the perfect time for creative pursuits like photography, art, drama, dance, singing, writing and music.

TAURUS

Don’t fall into the trap of undervaluing and neglecting your numerous Taurean talents. After six weeks in retrograde motion, your forwards on Monday. So it’s time to express yourself in uplifting ways that make your eyes sparkle and your heart sing. Be inspired by Beyoncé (who turns 42 on Monday): “We all have our purpose, we all have our strengths.” Domestic matters and family life should also gradually improve.

GEMINI

as Mercury (your patron planet) continues reversing through your home zone (until September 15). You could also face a tricky balancing act between growing responsibilities at work and constant commitments at home. Jupiter encourages you to adopt a more philosophical attitude. And Venus encourages you to approach challenges with a cooperative and consultative (and charming) approach.

CANCER

Mercury is still retrograde (until September 15) so pace yourself, otherwise you’ll be a cranky Crab. Hasty remarks or sudden actions could land you in a heap of hot water. Words have the ability to hurt or heal, so choose your comments carefully and your conversation topics wisely. And avoid making rash decisions, as you don’t have all the relevant information. Friday is fabulous for neighbourhood get-togethers and catching up with friends.

LEO

Thank goodness – after six weeks reversing

roar should gradually start to return. Wednesday is a great time to research, revise and rehearse, while Friday is good for study and travel. But Mercury is still retrograde, so be extra patient with family and friends – and yourself. Draw inspiration from birthday great Beyoncé: “I embrace mistakes. They make you who you are.”

VIRGO

Virgos are very dependable and devoted – but you can also be a carping critic as family and friends struggle to keep up with your incredibly high standards. With Saturn visiting your relationship zone and Mercury still reversing through your sign, get ready to hear some dramatic home-truths from loved ones. Perhaps they are sick and tired of being criticised for being less than 100% perfect. And maybe they just want to relax and be a slob occasionally.

LIBRA

With Venus slowly moving forwards – and Mercury still in retrograde mode – don’t take things too literally this week. Communicate carefully and check all travel arrangements diligently. You’ll have to read between the lines if you want to know what’s really going on. If you blindly follow the advice of a relative, close friend or work colleague, then you to trouble. So use your discretion and trust your instincts.

SCORPIO

Friday’s lucky Sun-Jupiter link encourages you to broaden your horizons – physically, mentally and spiritually. It’s time to expand connections, within your peer group and ones, more adventurous in your choices, and more ambitious with your dreams. Draw

“I want to live my life so that my nights are not full of regrets.”

SAGITTARIUS

On Monday there’s a Mercury/Jupiter trine, which favours education and travel. But remember Mercury is still retrograde – so slow down, concentrate and double-check everything! On Friday there’s a fabulous Sun/ Jupiter trine, which boosts individuality and

Freddie Mercury: “Someone will always be prettier. Someone will always be smarter; someone will always be younger. But they will never be you.”

CAPRICORN

You’re keen to express your ideas and enjoy plenty of stimulating conversations with a wide range of interesting people, as the Sun and Jupiter rev up your curious and social side. But remember, Mercury is retrograde (until September 15) so be careful you don’t write (or say) the wrong thing to the wrong person! Use your considerable Capricorn skills to motivate and inspire others in positive ways. Friday favours catching up with local or overseas friends.

AQUARIUS

Relationships should improve, as Venus moves forwards in your partnership zone. that are hidden beneath the surface; be uncharacteristically patient; and do all the research that’s required. Saturn and retrozones, so resist the temptation to shop up a storm, and use retail therapy as entertainexpensive ways to amuse yourself!

PISCES

Pisceans can be dreamy procrastinators. All ideas and no action. But you have more chance of putting plans into practice ATM, as Saturn transits through your sign until 2025. Which is just as well because family, friends and colleagues are looking to you for less confusion and more clarity. Think things through and pace yourself. Mercury is still retrograde, so documents, contracts, appointments and travel arrangements need to be carefully double-checked.

Wild Dog Control Program

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has partnered with Somerset Regional Council to conduct a wild dog baiting program throughout Somerset in an effort to control wild dog numbers.

Important information when baiting with 1080:

• Baiting can be carried out within 5km of a town. Prior approval from an authorised Council officer is required, increased risk mitigation and conditions apply.

• Baits cannot be laid within 50m of a roadway or within 5m of a boundary fence.

• Notification of 72 hours must be given to all adjoining neighbours (including across roadways).

• An authority to sign form is required if obtaining baits for another person.

• You must supply your rates notice.

• Unconsumed baits are to be retrieved within seven days and destroyed.

A Council employee will attend the following sites to assist with the preparation of 1080 poison baits for the control of dingoes/wild dogs:

11 September Middle Creek, Bryden, 7.30am-9am

11 September Fernvale Camp Draft Grounds, 10.30am-12pm

11 September Kilcoy Showgrounds, 7.30am-9am

11 September Moore Pony Club Grounds, Station Street, 10.30am-12pm

• Please ensure all meat is fresh and well drained and baits must be fist sized (approximately 250g in South East Queensland areas).

• No bones, rotten meat or carcasses will be impregnated.

• Baits must be transported in stable, sealable leak-proof containers and all baits are to be laid as soon as possible as it is illegal to store impregnated baits.

For enquiries or bookings phone Council on (07) 5424 4000.

Tonight’s play saw the Club participate in the Australia-Wide Open Pairs Competition where as the name indicates, our skills were tested against many. The overall Results won’t be known until Participants in all States have played these same boards.

However, as our Club went Pat Ziebarth & Richard Drouin had a great night scoring 68.75% which

should hold them in good stead in the competition.
