exciting but humbling. “So many community workers in their organisa-

tions work so hard, so to be nominated was very humbling,” she said.

Manager Alanah Wahl nominated her team for their work post floods. “I really wanted to see my team recognised, particularly for all the work that they’d done in relation to the flood response last year and the ongoing work that has come about as a result of that,” she said. GRACE CRICHTON

Public defibrillator installed in Forest Hill BY GRACE CRICHTON HELP is at hand in Forest Hill with the installation of a public defibrillator. The defibrillator is located in the patio area to the side of 4342 Bar & Bistro and is accessible 24/7. Forest Hill Community Development Association members Melinda Brimblecombe and Fred Wilks said the group decided the community would benefit from the equipment. “We need one that’s accessible in town,” Mrs Brimblecombe said. The purchase was made possible by the local Ma-

sonic Lodge who donated $2,810.95. “The Argyle Lodge approached us and offered funding,” Mr Wilks said.

“Laidley Ambulance came on board to assist with the supply of the machine.” Argyle Lodge Master Philip Charles attended the

handover on December 1. “It’s of great community service and benefit,” he said. The defibrillator is portable and user friendly.

Fantasy obsession fill’s Hypatia’s House LAIDLEY fantasy lovers converged at Hypatia’s House in Laidley for the opening night of Flights of Fantasy, exhibiting the artwork of Raceview’s Levi Huston and the extensive book and artwork collection of Laidley Height’s Simon Doonar. Mr Doonar’s collection of books is the result of 20 years of obsession “Me and books don’t have a very good history

because I’m dyslexic… I look at every single book I read as an accomplishment,” he said. “Then I obsess about it by finding the best quality book I could of that story and having it signed, preferably by the artist and by the author. “I fell in love with the cover art Geoff Taylor was doing for the books, it was the art that got me interested in the book itself.”

The exhibition also has 18 of Geoff Taylor’s pieces, some commissioned by Mr Doonar. Self-taught artist Levi Huston drew inspiration from mythology, maths and sciences in his own work at the exhibition. “I blend in certain sciences like fractals and surrealism,” he said. Flights of Fantasy is open until December 22. JACOB HAYDEN
