LOCKYER Valley Lutheran Parish is holding a combined service to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Immanuel Ropeley Church this Sunday February 5.
Pastor Jing Luan is the 13th pastor to service the church since its dedication on February 4, 1923.
“Before that there were two Lutheran churches in Ropeley area, the Zion Lutheran Church and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serviced by pastors from Plainland and Hatton Vale,” Pastor Luan said.
“Those two churches decided to come together and build a new church to cover Lutherans in the Ropeley and Tenthill area.”
Parish members from Laidley, Lockrose, Gatton and surrounds, as well as friends and family of the church are expected to gather for the celebration.
Pastor Luan has collected archives and photos from over the years for display at the celebration.
“Very sadly, we have another congregation in Mt Sylvia which is about to close down… churches in this area are not growing, they are shrinking,” Pastor Luan said.
“I don’t think we can have another 100 years celebration, or even 50.
“People will come to the church to remember the faith life their ancestors shared with their community and family.”
Pastor Luan said for Christians, the service was about worshipping God’s grace.
“That’s part of our lives in church worshipping and serving the community through church prayer and church activities,” he said.

VALLEY VIKINGS
On a hot day which drained stamina, the Vikings were impressive in taking down the Marburg Thunder at Cahill Park. After a nervy start, Viking batters did well, with Rogan Utz, Regan Hoger and Zeke Kugel all topping 50. The Thunder
Reisenlieter (3-18) and Captain Chris O’Brien (3-29) took away all momentum, leaving the visitors building win.
LOCKYER A GRADE. Forest Hill posted a light-on 122 against Helidon, with Reece Reiser impressive with 36. Cooper Hickmont with 3-21 was best with the ball. But Helidon simply blasted Forest Hill off the park in devastating fashion. Brandon Webb with an amazing 62 off 19 balls and equally talented Ray McBride on 32, chased down the score in 10 overs. There’s no doubting
Gatton Fordsdale continued their care of a brave Mulgowie. Batting
8-279, with Aaron O-Dea (92) and Jason Kleidon (49 n.o). Mulgowie batted out their overs and reached 156 with 9 wickets down. Matthew Taber scored a meritorious 36.
