The Perfect Grilled Chicken | Tips for Juicy, Tender Chicken on the Grill
INGREDIENTS
• 1 large skinless, boneless chicken breast
• ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
• 4 tablespoons brown sugar
• 4 tablespoons avocado oil
• 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
• 2 garlic cloves minced
• 2 tablespoons Kent's Original seasoning or blend of your choice
• 1 teaspoon ground mustard
• 2 teaspoon dried oregano
INSTRUCTIONS
Place the chicken in a plastic bag and pound with a rolling pin to tenderize and reduce the thickness slightly.
In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients.
Pour the contents into the bag with the chicken and roll around to coat. Place in
the icebox for at least 4 hours.
Remove from the bag and grill immediately when ready.
Method 1: Tinfoil
The Hasty Bake grill I am using today (Legacy 131) will allow us to cook the chicken over direct heat on one side or over indirect heat on the other. For the chicken breast that is going over the direct heat, we are going to wrap it in foil to prevent the outside from burning before the chicken is cooked all the way through.
TIP: To smoke chicken or fish, use alder wood and apple wood.
Place the chicken breast on top of a sheet of aluminum foil. Pour a little of the marinade on top, reserving some for later. Top with butter. Wrap up in foil and cook about 5-7 minutes on each side.
After steaming, take the breast out of the foil and place directly on the grill. Pour half of the remaining marinade on top of the chicken and have it set there just a minute or two and then flip. Finish on the grill until the internal temperature is 165 degrees F.

Method 2: Indirect Heat
Now, we are going to use the side of the Hasty Bake grill that pulls the heat and smoke from the fire but that keeps the meat itself out of the flames. When grilling chicken on this side of the grill, we do not need to wrap the meat in foil. The smoke and heat from the fire will cook the chicken beautifully without burning the outside before it is done.
Remember to reserve the remaining marinade and baste the outside of the chicken breast every few minutes when you flip it. The more marinade you add, the better color, caramelization, and flavor you are going to get.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to flip the chicken as it cooks. Grill until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
Method 3: Smoker
If you like that good smoked flavor and have a little more time, try out the smoking method.
m using the Pit Barrel Cooker. Place the chicken directly onto the grill. The fire in the barrel is pretty low so the chicken is smothered by the smoke. Keep the smoker temperature at about 200 to 210 degrees and leave it until the chicken is about 165 degrees.
The smoked method will take the longest about 20 to 30 minutes.

What is Succession Planting? See How to Increase
Your Harvest
What is succession planting? It simple! When your first crops are finished, make the most of the limited space and plan out second (or third!) plantings. After all, your bed’s already prepared! See which veggies are best for another planting—so it harvests before frost comes!
What is Succession Planting?
With succession planting, you enjoy multiple harvests from a single patch of ground in any given growing season. This is done by planting one crop immediately after an earlier crop has finished to keep the harvests coming. So, you are planting two or more crops in “succession.”
Growing like this not only maximizes productivity, ensuring more for you to eat, but maintaining soil cover with the leaves and roots of crops also provides fewer opportunities for weeds, while protecting the ground from erosion caused by wind and heavy rain.
Many vegetables need only half the growing season to reach harvest time, leaving plenty of fine weather to start off a crop that will either be harvested before the end of the season, or remain in the ground to give a crop over the winter or spring.
Sow the Right Crops
Vegetables that can be followed with a successional crop include:
• bush beans,
• early potatoes
• carrots,
• onions,
• garlic,
• beets
• many salad greens
When these first spring crops are harvested, you can make way for the second crops of the season. These vegetables will be able to take advantage of the warm soil and high light levels to quickly grow away.
Before planting the second crop, clean the ground of any weeds then use a rake to break up any clumps and tamp the soil down before raking flat. Good, rich soil that had organic matter added for the previous crop shouldn’t require any more, but if your soil does need a boost now’s the time to add a thin layer of compost before sowing or planting.
Speed is of the essence, so aim to have young plants or seeds ready to go in immediately after the first crop is cleared, that way you’ll make the most of the valuable warmth that remains this summer.
Succession Crops
Some crops may need to be planted out as young plants from sowings made earlier on, or from transplants, to ensure they reach harvesting stage before the season ends. These include many of the cabbage family plants such as kale, cauliflower and cabbage, plus Florence (bulbing) fennel, beets and lettuce. Some will be harvested in the fall, while others will give a small crop in winter before the main harvest in spring. Plants to grow from seed include chard, Oriental vegetables such as bok choy, herbs like parsley and cilantro, and salad greens such as endive, spinach and arugula.
Summer Sowing Tips
Direct sowings in the height of summer can be challenging in hot weather, particularly for leafy vegetables and salads such as chicory and spinach that need cooler soil temperatures to germinate. You can improve conditions by watering into seed drills before sowing to cool the soil down. Repeat two more times if the soil is especially dry. Doing this also creates a moist environment around the seeds.
Sowing under shade cloth can help, or sow into plugs of potting soil in a shady corner to plant out once the soil’s cooled down towards the end of summer.
Some plants such as kale and other brassicas can struggle in the heat. A simple shade cover will help to keep conditions that little bit cooler.
Careful successional sowing and planting can ensure a steady stream of year-round harvests.

TAURUS
(Apr. 21-May 20)
Venus, your ruling planet moves into your sign this week where it will remain until 3rd June. It might be time to generate a better balance in some way on a personal level. If you have been put under pressure since January that has been difficult to get under control, it would be a good time now to work towards something more reasonable.
LEO (July 23-August 22)
You could feel you have escaped in some way and this can result in a new view of future possibilities from now to early June. You could find you will need to be as determined as somebody else when it comes to what they expect from you and what you consider is fair thing. There is no need to feel that you need to be obligated.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
You should not hesitate to let go of anything that has become a greater commitment since late March than you anticipated. You will have greater confidence as well as perhaps more clarity when it comes to things important to you up to early June. New visions for the long term might need some contemplation.
VIRGO
(August 23-Sept.22)
SCORPIO (Oct.23-Nov21)
Any time you have been able to spend relaxing of late will now come to an end – you need to get to work on things that need to get done or better organised up to early June. Involved in this can be pleasing somebody else, especially if you have promised this since January. There can be no more excuses from now on.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.18)
To take control and head down a path in life that will satisfy your individuality has been a driving force since January. From now to early June there is much you can put into place as long as you take a balanced rather than a rebellious approach. Taking the initiative towards becoming better informed could be a great help.
Anybody who has been unsettling since March could now become more difficult to manage until early June. In part, this might be because you don’t really know where you stand with them. You need to focus on what would provide a more balanced approach in the long term, especially if you have had a lot to handle since January.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov.22-Dec.21)
If you have been getting a good foundation of some description in place since March you can now focus on enjoying yourself or taking things a little easier up to early June. You could reach a stage now where new ideas you that may have crossed your mind since January could be utilised to bring more balance to normal routines.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)
That feeling of having to fight for your rights that has likely been the case since March can now ease. You will need to stick with what can be afforded financially, rather than spending in impulse to early June. You are now in a better position to be able to discuss matters in a more reasonable manner. Getting the right information could be helpful.
CANCER (June 21
-July 22)
Drop any future plans you had that you now realise could generate too much work. You need to focus on the commitments, to early June, that have some significance or could result in better recognition of your skills. At the same time you can realise that it is important for you to be happy, so don’t get caught up in others expectations.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct.22)
The position somebody else plans to take will become far more obvious from now to early June and it may not please you too much. You need to withdraw in some way, which can include keeping your true desires to yourself. What you do have to watch is that you are not left taking care of all the details while they do as they want.
CAPRICORN
(Dec. 22-Jan.19)
You have likely had to cope with many distractions since March where life has felt like a whirlwind, leaving many things not done. From now to early June your focus needs to be getting some sort of order in place. The work this will take may not seem that appealing but oddly enough you will get much pleasure from the results.
ARIES (March 21-April 20)
Mars, your ruling planet moves into yoursign thisweekwhereitwill remain until the 9th June. This marks the beginning of a new 2 year personal cycle. You should find your energy level will pick up as well as your self confidence. Something that has been unclear of late could suddenly sort itself out, giving a sense of freedom.
