Once you know your son or daughter is getting married, the wedding becomes the perfect excuse you need for dressing up. Bride aside, all eyes will be on the mums. Cream of Royston has been trading in Royston for 44 years and is predominantly a special occasion store. The extensive stock on two floors is colour co-ordinated for ease of selection. Everything is available from outfits (sizes 6-24) to shoes and bags, hats, fascinators and lingerie. Brands stocked include Condici, John Charles, Ispirato and Ann Balon. Less formalwear from brands such as Isabella, Frank Lyman and Gina Bacconi are ideal for a day at the races, wedding abroad or for guests at a wedding. Mothers usually purchase their outfits four to six months before the event and customers are given the option to change it if they see something they prefer later, but they rarely do. Once everything gels and you have that wow factor, you have found the outfit. It is usual for mothers to co-ordinate with the wedding party. Many brides have a colour scheme for bridesmaids and a men’s suit, and it is a good idea to either blend or contrast with this. It

is very important to be comfortable with what you are wearing. A shift dress with a jacket is always a popular choice because you can take the jacket off in the evening when things warm up. An elegant and slightly understated look always works, and a hat can complement the outfit too. They have to be happy with the final look. Whilst the outfit must be perfect for the occasion, it is important to have the correct lingerie underneath too as it can alter the whole look of a garment. Cream has a well-stocked lingerie department which can be tried alongside the outfit. A free alteration service is available on all full-priced outfits bought in store, completed up to a month before the event to ensure a perfect fit. Shoes and bags are made in different heel heights in Spain from beautiful leathers and Rainbow Club can be dyed to match the outfit. Feel free to pop in or book an appointment. The sale shop Occasions for Less, located adjacent to Cream, offers mother’s of the bride shoes, bags and hats from previous seasons all at fantastic prices.

Best Man Speech - Dream or Nightmare?

1.startA tomonth before the wedding, practice feeling confident. Close your eyes and picture an occasion when you felt really confident. Make the picture bright and colourful. When you are experiencing that confident feeling as strongly as possible, press the tips of your thumb and first finger together firmly. This is your confidence anchor.

2.

In the week before the wedding, before you go to sleep every night, imagine yourself making a brilliant speech. See yourself standing confidently, speaking easily, the smiling faces in front of you. Hear them laughing at your jokes and clapping as you finish. Enjoy that good feeling of a job well done. Press the tips of your thumb and first finger together to ‘fire’ your confidence anchor.

3. Just before you stand up to make the speech, take a few

moments to concentrate on your breathing. Breathe down into your stomach and make each out-breath slightly longer than the in-breath. This will trigger

Royston

relaxation. When you stand up, plant your feet firmly hip distance apart and stand in your confident posture. Fire your confidence anchor.

4. 5.

Take plenty of sips of water. This will keep your mouth moist and give you a chance to look at your notes

6.

At the beginning of your speech, let your eyes go out of focus so that you can take in the whole room. Once you are feeling more confident, let your eyes focus on the people who are smiling and laughing - there will be plenty of them.

At The First Dance Company, we teach couples the first dance for their big day. Many people come to us nervous and with ‘two left feet’ (their words not mine!) But we have never yet met anyone who can’t dance, you just need a bit of guidance!

Pancake Day!

Tuesday 22nd February is the date of Shrove Tuesday, commonly known to many as Pancake Day. Shrove Tuesday falls exactly 47 days before Easter Sunday and is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. It used to mark the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before a long period of fasting. Pancakes are the perfect dish to put them to use! My favourite pancake recipe uses buckwheat, baking soda and buttermilk to create a thicker, fluffier pancake than the more common French Crêpe.

Whether you just want to learn a few basics, a bespoke choreographed first dance, or maybe a routine for all the bridesmaids, we can and have done it all! Lessons are taught by experienced professionals in the comfort of your own home, or in a dance studio if you prefer. Sessions start from just £45 and we are currently offering 20% off the first 20 bookings of 2020! 07772 323 435 www.thefirstdancecompany.co.uk jessica@thefirstdancecompany.co.uk

Ever thought what you’ll do when you’re asked to take to the floor for your first dance? Let The First Dance Company ease your nerves in private lessons with an expert teacher.

When couples step into my Royston kitchen for a wedding cake consultation I love to see the sparkle in their eyes as they talk about their big day. I really like to get to know them and their vision for their wedding. This starts with a pre wedding cake consultation questionnaire so I can gather some ideas before I meet them. Whilst they are sampling 4 different cake flavours, over a complimentary glass of bubbly, I sketch out a design for their cake. I keep refining it until we land on the design for their dream cake. I pride myself not only on my attention to detail but my flavours. From recipes that have been passed down through generations to fresh local ingredients. I love to hear the feedback that guests come back for an extra slice!

2020 is a leap year!

2020 is a leap year, meaning there is an extra day in February! It is done to synchronise our Gregorian calendars with the solar year, which is 365 days, 5 hours and nearly 49 minutes long. Without leap years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days after just 100 years. 29th February is also recognised as the day for women to propose to their other halves if they feel they need to take control. According to Irish legend, St Brigid struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propse to men rather than just the other way round. Here at The Listing, we care not so much about who instigates the proposal but the mere action itself. If you’re short of money, feeling spontaneous and having a highly forgiving partner, Poundland are selling engagement rings for just £1. As they say, ‘take the leap... because they might never get round to it’.
