Welcome to the January edition of your Abbey-Link. Happy New Year to you all! I do hope you all managed to have, or are about to have, depending on when you receive this, a lovely festive break with family and friends and are ready now for whatever the year ahead may hold. It’s that time of year when we can think about loosing a few pounds, and getting fit for the year ahead. If you are looking for somewhere to go, give Spirit Health Club, located in within the Holiday Inn, a try, more details are on page 12. Fun Liners, are a local line dancing group which as well as helping with your fitness, is a good fun activity. Or maybe you fancy giving Zumba a try, Zumba with Wanda is a great low impact class where you will have lots of fun. You can find out when local classes are for both groups on page 13. Changing a lock

There are a number of reasons why you may need to change the locks at home. Maybe you have lost your keys. The easiest lock to change is what is commonly called the Yale lock. This lock is actually called a night latch and the whole assembly does not need to be changed as the internal working latch, barrel or cylinder, can be changed independently of the rest of the mechanism. This allows you to use a new key that after all is the usual purpose of changing locks

At the back of the door you will see the lock box. This is held on by two screws, which are located above and below the actual door latch. Release these screws completely and put them somewhere safe. You will then be able to wiggle off the lock box. When the lock box is removed you will see the locks back plate. This is the plate that holds the whole lot to the door. Sticking out of the back plate you will see a thin bar with grooves across its width. This is called the shank. Above the shank and to either side of it are two screw heads, which hold the barrel or cylinder to the back plate. Unscrew these and put them with the lock box screws. You should then be able to pull the barrel or cylinder out of the door. Take a new barrel or cylinder and lay it alongside the one you have just taken out. Measure the length of the shank and using a strong pair of pliers and a hacksaw, cut the new shank to the same length as the old. The grooves that are already partially cut in the shank are there to help you.

When you have sawn a little way through the shank you should be able to bend it downwards to allow the shank to split in the correct place. Re assembling the lock is now a direct reversal of the procedure you used to dismantle it.

This comedy-drama is based on the book of the similar title “A Man Called Ove”

Empire of Light

Hilary (Olivia Colman) is a cinema manager struggling with her mental health, and Stephen (Micheal Ward) is a new employee longing to escape the provincial town where he faces daily adversity. Together they find a sense of belonging and experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community. Written and directed by Sam Mendes, whose previous films include SKYFALL and 1917, this film also features Colin Firth and Toby Jones among its ensemble cast.

20th January Babylon

Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) is a struggling actor in Hollywood who will do anything to make it big. He meets Nellie LaRoy (margot Robbie), a former actress who is now a successful from the talkies. She takes him under her wing and helps him get started in the business. Conrad quickly becomes a star, but his ego and ambition get the better of him. He starts to believe that he is invincible and that he can have anything he wants. This leads to a spiraling downward spiral of drugs, alcohol, and women. His career and personal life are in shambles, but he doesn't care. He is until he meets a young woman who makes him realize that he has to get his life together. With her help, he gets sober and tries to make amends with the people he has hurt. He also tries to revive his career, but it is not as easy as he thought it would be.

Steven Spielberg writes and directs this semi-autobiographical tale, loosely based on his own childhood, which has already received rave reviews from its movie festival screenings.
