HOW IT

ALL STARTED Caribbean Sol was founded by current President, Bruce Shanks. His 40+ years of experience in the beach concessions industry, over time, opened his eyes to the need for a well-rounded, Natural, sun care product that was safe for both our marine ecosystem and our skin.

Research in recent years has proven this need accurate.

After years of working with a micro-biologist, Bruce and his team came up with a sunscreen formula that was not only natural but, biodegradable in nature.

To this day, Caribbean Sol is one of the very few brands that have not had to alter ingredients due to new laws and regulations in the industry.

MINERAL VS. CHEMICAL SPF Years of research have shown that chemical sunscreen can be toxic. But what exactly is chemical sunscreen, and how does it impact your customers? What implications does it have for our planet?

Chemical sunscreen penetrates the skin through pores, where it absorbs UV rays from the sun, converting them into heat before releasing that heat from the body. Research indicates that the chemicals in these SPF products can enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to hormonal imbalances and adverse skin reactions. Alarmingly, the same chemicals responsible for these issues in humans are also linked to environmental harm, particularly in marine ecosystems. When washed off the skin, these chemicals can cause irreversible damage and even death to marine life—the very creatures that attract many tourists.

In contrast, mineral sunscreen rests on the skin, forming a physical barrier against the sun’s rays. As long as the active mineral is non-nano, it is too large to penetrate the pores. By using mineral protection derived from the Earth, this type of sunscreen can safely re-enter the environment after washing off. Mineral sunscreen is recognized as a safer and more sustainable choice for both human skin and the ecosystem.

PRODUCTS OVERVIEW MINERAL Sunscreen SPF LOTIONS

Our original lotion-based sunscreen formulas are made using organic aloe to heal and hydrate the skin. Natural, Non-Nano Zinc is used as the active, mineral ingredient for broad-spectrum protection against UV Rays.

The remaining ingredients are naturally sourced plant and mineral extracts that enhance the product’s ability to heal, hydrate, and protect the skin. Our natural lotion formulas break down naturally and cause no harm to our environment.

Each of our lotion-based SPFs is packaged in fully-sustainable tubes made from a Sugar Cane Resin. The safety and sustainability of our planet are as important to us as the safety and sustainability of our skin.

MINERAL Sunscreen SPF SPRAYS

Each of our SPF spray formulas is meticulously formulated to follow our mission of safety and sustainability for our planet and our skin. Mineral Non-Nano active ingredients (Zinc and Titanium Dioxide) o er broad-spectrum protection from UV rays while the surrounding ingredients provide healing and hydration for the skin.

The SPF 30 Sport has a unique dry-grip formula that o ers a talc-like feel for the outdoor adventurer. Gone are the days of forgoing sunscreen because of the greasy need to wash your hands immediately, or mess up your grip of the racquets or clubs.

The Mineral SPF 30 & SPF 50 spray uses a unique, aerosol-free Bag-On-Valve dispensing system that allows for a steady spray of sunscreen without polluting the air or the skin with harmful gas aerosols.

APPLICATION 101

The proper application of a mineral sunscreen is essential when promoting our products. The active component in Caribbean Sol & Hawaiian Sol Mineral sunscreens is Non-Nano Zinc. Non-Nano indicates that the particle sizes are regulated to prevent them from entering the pores. Zinc, a natural mineral, is mined and ground into a fine powder for use in cosmetics. When applied generously and with vigor, this mineral may leave a white tint on the skin.

Customers may inquire whether our sunscreen will leave a white residue. The answer is yes, but with correct application techniques, you can avoid the unwanted "Casper" appearance.

Ensure your employees and customers are well-trained on the correct application to minimize returns and guarantee proper usage. To assist you and your shoppers, we have developed application cards that can be conveniently accessed at the point of sale. Our turtle logo came together after a round table discussion of wanting to re-brand. We wanted to center our new logo around our commitment to sustainability, and our mission from day one: To formulate a sun care product made from ingredients found IN our planet. Ingredients that, when released back into our waterways, dissolve without poisoning where they land.

Turtles symbolize longevity, protection, healing, and transformation. They have become a poster for our earth and the sustainability of our Planet. We chose to create our turtle around our mission to protect, heal and transform the sun care industry. Using ingredients found in the earth, that when released back into the earth, preserve it and create a safe place for turtles and other life on our planet, including your skin.

Our turtle was created with a leaf as its shell to symbolize plant-based ingredients, blue legs to symbolize our waterways that continue to be polluted by the chemically formulated products we wash off our bodies.
