THE PUBLISHER CHANTAL TAYLOR

MEETTHEPUBLISHER:

Chantal Taylor is a mother to three sons, a magazine owner, a skincare line owner, and a cancer survivor. Chantal is the third child of 15 children, a first-generation high school graduate, and a soon-to-be firstgeneration college graduate coming in June 2026 with her bachelor's in criminal justice. Her biggest motivation is her children, but she would not be the woman she is today without her grandmother Gloria Taylor.

Born on December 23, 1991, Chantal was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana by her grandmother Gloria Taylor. Chantal was raised by her grandmother due to the passing of her mom at the young age of three. Chantal's grandmother relocated them to Jackson, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Together her and her grandmother would form an unbreakable bond lasting until her unexpected passing in August of 2021. Since the passing of her grandmother, Chantal has used this tragedy to help push and motivate her more toward making something more of herself and most Importantly making her children and grandmother proud of her.

MEETTHEPUBLISHER:

On March 17, 2018 Chantal Taylor started her business True Essence Organics. True Essence Organics takes raw ingredients from nature and molds them into skincare products used for different skin types. Chantal’s skincare journey began when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Desmoid Fibromatosis in 2006.

Some of you may be wondering what is Desmoid Fibromatosis. Desmoid Fibroma tumors are cancerous growths that occur in the connective tissue. Desmoid tumors most often occur in the abdomen, arms, and legs. Another term for desmoid tumors is aggressive fibromatosis. Some desmoid tumors are slow growing and do not require immediate treatment. However, Others grow quickly and are treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or other medications. Desmoid tumors are rare, affecting an estimated 1 to 2 per 500,000 people worldwide and 900 to 1,500 new cases are diagnosed per year in the United States. This type of tumor mostly affects people between the ages of 15 and 60 years of age, but it can occur at any age. Desmoid tumors are more common in women than in men. In children, desmoid tumors most often occur between the ages of 15 and 16 years.

Early signs that you may have a Desmoid tumor are signs such as a mass or area of swelling, pain, loss of function in the affected area, or cramping and nausea when a Desmoid occurs in the abdomen. It's not clear what causes desmoid tumors.

MEETTHEPUBLISHER:

Doctors know these tumors form when a connective tissue cell develops changes in its DNA. A cell's DNA contains instructions that tell a cell what to do. The changes tell the connective tissue cell to multiply rapidly, creating a mass of cells that can invade and destroy healthy body tissue.

Since being diagnosed in 2008 she has endured several rounds of chemotherapy, several rounds of radiation, multiple surgical procedures, and has gained more health issues.

Despite battling cancer, Chantal has become remarkably successful with her skincare business. She has been fefeatured on the cover of Huami Magazine Jan/Feb 2022 edition, she has been featured in Shoutout Atlanta, she has been awarded The Entrepreneurial Shero Award for 2023, she has accomplished having her products in stores near and far, she is now on Walmart.com, and has become a staple in her community.

In December of 2022 Chantal decided to start The Legacy Magazine MS. When starting her magazine, she wanted other business owners to feel the joy she felt when she was first asked to be featured on the cover of a magazine. "I wanted people to know that GREATNESS comes from the state of Mississippi. I feel a lot of us are sleeping on here in Mississippi and I was determined to get the word out by any means necessary even if it meant trusting God with everything in me."

Since beginning The Legacy Magazine MS, she has successfully sold over 5,000 digital copies within the first five months since releasing her first edition. Chantal has also featured some amazing people such as Judge Kenny Lewis, Big Yayo, Anitra Bender, Southern Soul Boyz, ABG Rocky, and many more. “I thoroughly enjoy working on the stories of amazing leaders and entrepreneurs. It gives me the opportunity to put my skills to use and it also allows me to get awareness out about their business."

ON THE COVER WILLIAM BROWN

ExploringTheMakingOfABrand

Clothing designer and small business owner William Brown, 40, has created a special position in his Mississippi market. He not only offers clients unique, quality everyday pieces--the work is much more specific and detailed than that. The entrepreneur specializes in designing one-of-a-kind pieces for all his clients no matter the event or need. This includes designing logos for businesses, t-shirts for surrounding schools and universities, or personal designs for families and individuals alike, all of which are designed to still be relevant and fashionable as the years go by.

Before launching FlyyBoy University Clothing in 2019, Brown did his homework to determine if there was room in this growing market for his vision. As an entertainment promoter and manager by trade, he invited various acquaintances with different levels and types of style to sit down to have a talk. He picked their brains about what they thought of the options that were available in the area for their clothing taste, and most of them stated the options were limited, not comfortable or looked the same as everything else on the market.

ExploringTheMakingOfABrand

A loving son, brother, father, and mentor discovered through his research and marketing that there was an unfulfilled need in his area for a clothing brand that understood the desires of clients with unique tastes and one-of-a-kind needs. The business which projects a stellar year in sales was born in 2020 as a home-based business, however, has plans to expand early next year.

As someone that started their career as an event promoter in 2009 with his FlyyBoy Ent. William Brown has excelled at using his promotion and marketing skills to not only ensure his FlyyBoy University Clothing is just as successful but his new management company venture as well. We look forward to seeing great things from this small business owner and his brands.

THE SIPOLOGIST ANIJA MOSLEY

The Sipologist

Sipologist was created in 2023 by Anija Mosley. She has been a bartender for about 2 years and was asked to bartend a party and that is when it hit her!

She knew what she wanted to do! Do not get her wrong, Anija was very scared because something that she actually loved and cared about was happening right in front of her and she did not even think she would be as happy about it until realizing that she was doing it.

With Anija bartending different events she always get to meet different people and learn things from them and about them.

“Everyone loves telling their bartender their problems ‘lol’! They make the time go by and it's fun, and exciting. With the knowledge she now knows about cocktails, spirits, and other beverages her passion for being a mixologist has grown.

Anija wants her business to grow to where when someone hears or sees or hears her name they will know what she stands for with her passion for drinks and crafts.

The Sipologist

“Tell everyone that I am the person they need at their event.” Anija also started this business because in the future she wants her daughter to be left with something and maybe one day she will follow in her mother's footsteps and enjoy it as much as she does.

With working full-time, and running a small business that is getting ready to unfold her love for cooking and baking started at an early age.

With Janiques grandmother being the candy lady, she was able to help with all the sweet baking. As she grew older, her love for cooking started to unfold so she signed up for a culinary class at Career Development Center. There she received her certification in culinary.

EMAIQUE’SSWEETCREATIONS

Her grandmother would laugh it off but then turn around and say are you serious? She never thought she would be where she us now with a home bakery in a million years, and to think it all started with her making her sister's birthday cake. "Now let me tell you that buttercream was some work. After I fixed the cake, dipped my little berries, and decorated it, something wasn't right."

Janique called a friend who attended Career Development Center with her and asked what did she do wrong. To her surprise, she had used graduated sugar instead of powdered sugar. Although frustrated she didn't give up; she was determined to make this right.

EMAIQUE’SSWEETCREATIONS

So, for her baby's second birthday, she went to work. Her buttercream came out so smooth and was strawberry, and the feedback she received from her family and friends was everything for Janique to get this thing up and rolling.

To her, this felt so unreal because she didn't have her grandmother here to experience this with, but she could still feel her presence.

Janique decided to take a year off while carrying her second child due to depression. During this time the only thing that keept her going was her children and her love for baking.

When Janique got back into baking, her first official customer was a co-worker at the time. This gave her the push she needed to take off from there. Since then she has seen so much growth in her work and says that she is ready for what God has in store for her and her business.

Lakandra Moncure is the owner of Gabzlyn's Sweet Treat Pickles.

Lakandra was born and raised in Terry, Mississippi. She began making the delectable, sweet treat Kool-Aid pickles in 2017 when her son Kenzlyn was constantly looking for employment, but no one would hire him.

So, she decided to combine her passion for flavored pickles into a business that would not only provide employment for her son but would also be a good investment for their entire family.

First, she needed a name for her business, so she combined her daughter's name, Gabriella, with my son's name, Kenzlyn, and that's how GabzyIns Sweet Treats Pickles became a reality.

Lakandra began by making two or three flavors of sliced pickles, and then she decided to sell the spears in her salon; from there, she went from having three different flavors to having over 30 flavors and selling worldwide.

GabzyIns has appeared on the Kelly Clarkson show with Dani and Dannah, as well as at Mississippi's annual pickle fest. Though they are a small black-owned business, they serve the public on a much larger scale.

Lakandra's business is not something she takes for granted. She enjoys interacting with the public as well as providing new flavors for others to enjoy.

"I always refer to Philippians 4:13, and it reminds me that without God, Gabzlyn's Sweet Treat Pickles would not be possible!"
