Our students roll up their sleeves to dig in, ask questions, collaborate, and solve problems in our local community and around the world. The entrepreneurial spirit and rigorous intellectual inquiry cultivated in our Harkness classrooms translates into molecular biology research in partnership with a lab at Stanford University, robotics projects in our brand new makerspace, and innovative experiential learning programs. We listen to each other, discuss and reflect, then problem-solve as a team.

For generations of Lawrentians, the first question they ask one another is, “What House were you in?” Whether it’s painting your face before House Olympics, doubling over with laughter during a Saturday night Feed, or knocking on your Head of House’s door and talking through a problem, at Lawrenceville, your House truly becomes a home. For more than two centuries, our community of 18 residential Houses has been a place where students form lifelong friendships, develop the values of cooperation, tolerance and leadership, and make memories that last a lifetime.

You’ll find them everywhere — around our Harkness tables, as your Heads of House, coaching on our athletic fields, and mentoring students in all of their passions. Lawrenceville teachers cultivate life of the mind by example as well as instruction. More than 90 percent of our faculty hold advanced degrees, and many make direct contributions to their disciplines of teaching as published scholars, scientific researchers, and leading innovators in education.

ARTS AND CULTURE Inspiring, connecting, developing empathy and teamwork, the arts at Lawrenceville comprise a lively and comprehensive Performing Arts Department, with musical and dramatic theater, vocal and instrumental music opportunities, and dance. Our program in visual arts challenges students to develop visual awareness and acuity through classes encompassing historical analysis and creation. We believe the arts are an essential element in broadening a person’s approach to problem solving, to aesthetic enjoyment, to other people, and to life itself.

Experiential Learning We intentionally design learning experiences that will deepen your understanding of the world, reinforce self-confidence, spawn creativity, and teach initiative. Every experiential learning opportunity includes focused reflection, which allows our students to deepen their knowledge, develop skills, clarify values, and increase their capacity to contribute to our communities.
SUSTAINABILITY Drawing on the legacy of noted alumnus and ecologist Aldo Leopold (Class of 1905) and celebrated landscape architect and campus designer Frederick Law Olmsted, sustainable living is woven into the very fabric of Lawrenceville’s identity. From student-driven recycling and composting efforts to campus water quality research, Big Red goes green is a way of life.

Featuring a 16,000-square foot design center, Lawrenceville’s new makerspace includes a fabrication lab, digital design rooms, and a large flexible project room for ideation and rapid prototyping. Whether you enjoy robotics, have the heart of an artist, or simply want to try something new, GCAD gives you the freedom and support to grow as you will.

big red athletics Big Red spirit radiates whether you play three varsity sports, represent your House intramural team, or deck yourself out in Red and Black to cheer for your classmates. Our premier interscholastic and intense intramural competition dates back centuries, and is bolstered by a comprehensive fitness program that builds character, instills team values, and fosters a lifelong commitment to positive physical and emotional habits. Our three term sports requirement gives students the chance to participate in a variety of options, developing citizenship and leadership, sportsmanship and fair play, and a passionate pursuit of excellence.

With approximately 250,000 square feet of functional space, the new Tsai Dining and Athletic Center will preserve and repurpose the best of Lawrenceville’s existing field house, while adding new dining and athletic facilities that reflect the latest standards in sports and nutrition.
TSAI dining and athletic center Lawrenceville’s new, world-class athletic center and exceptional dining facility, the Tsai Dining and Athletic Center will serve to further promote and strengthen Big Red bonds on campus. Currently under construction, the facility will weave together recreation, wellness, athletics and dining into one interconnected, state-ofthe-art campus hub. The design will foster community among students, staff and faculty, promote links to the broader campus landscape, and provide opportunities for outdoor programming.

Lawrenceville’s “Reach Out to the Arts Program” gives students weekly opportunities to visit world-class museums, attend the theatre, or view art exhibitions with all tickets partially subsidized by the School. In addition, our Student Activities Program routinely organizes trips to see the many professional athletic teams in these cities such as the Flyers, Giants, Yankees, and more.
