WEDDINGS ARE WILD, BUT SO IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Weddings are wild.

You spend anywhere from days to weeks to years planning them.

You determine which individuals “make the cut” based on your budget, how intimate you want it to be, etc.

You try to personalize the day as much as possible but also learn to accept that sometimes the standard practice is standard for a reason.

You laugh, you kiss, you dance, you cry (I know I did!), and then?

You grow together. You weep together. You win together and lose together (although, I still don’t like losing to my wife at party games!) You fight through your marriage at times and hopefully you will fight for your marriage at times.

You look down at the second finger on your left hand every day and remember that you entered into a covenant that is physical, spiritual, emotional—and hopefully, in most typical cases, is a bond that is unbroken the rest of your lives.

Yes, weddings are wild because they have become an “industry” and at times it feels like there is so much expectation to live up to when planning one, but you know what? It is a grand event that is worth completely halting the day-to-day routine and norms for because it represents one of the most self-sacrificial and unifying acts possible, somehow wrapped up into an agreement finalized with two simple words composed of three letters.

I’m not saying it’s grand in a way that I understand the large amounts of money sometimes spent on weddings or that a person’s wedding needs to look or feel a specific way. I am simply saying that the covenant of marriage that God created— and it’s always fun to note that Jesus’ first recorded miracle happened at a wedding— is a glimpse of Christ’s love for humanity, because it is predicated on putting others first, something I desperately need to remember on a daily basis.

Heather and I were married inside the sanctuary of the church we grew up in. I kissed her passionately and then we marched out triumphantly, I dipped her over the edge of a small waterfall to “capture the moment” for our photographer—the first of many times she has had to trust me. And the next day, we transitioned from her coming down the aisle to grasping hands to start down a new runway of life.

It has been challenging, it has been painful, it has been exhilarating and more rewarding than I could ever imagined (sometimes all in a single day!), but when I look back at my wedding day I see two quite imperfect people surrounded by a squadron of people who loved us deeply, who would be there for us in our mountaintops and valleys, and wanted to let us know that something good and beautiful was indeed taking place.

Call me a sucker, but whether it’s a bride and groom at the courthouse or hundreds of people cheering for newlyweds in a historic church at a destination wedding, something that symbolizes unconditional love deserves a moment of appreciation, or in this case an entire issue of a magazine to celebrate.

From

pearls making a comeback to grooms making fashion statements to mini everything, here's a look at what experts say is trending in the wedding industry in 2024.

brides.

are a great way to add bling to your wedding day without going overboard. They are a classic statement piece, and you can wear them with almost any outfit or as an accent on any decoration. A pearl-inspired look is perfect for the bride who wants to stand out from the crowd.

There are many ways to incorporate bows into your look, from dramatic to simplistic. "A ribbon-tied bouquet is the epitome of simple sophistication, and a nod to the trend of the season," fashion stylist Kim Appelt said recently on “Good Morning America.” Whether it’s the bridal shoes, back of the dress, or a simple bow in the hair, it appears bows are becoming a staple.

Intricate embroidery, standout appliqués, and vintage-inspired lace trim abounded to add drama to a ceremony look are all aspects of modern day veil trends. Other trends, like bold shapes seen in Halfpenny London’s all-over tulle design and florals echoed in Alexandra Grecco’s veils, can be integrated through this whimsical accessory.

SUBTLE COLOR

While brides continue to embrace pops of bright color throughout their wedding weekend wardrobes, experts expect to see an increase in bridal gowns in soft, non-white hues—especially pink, says bridal designer Katherine Tash. "I love that more brides are feeling empowered to lean into their own personal style in this way and wear something they love rather than something they feel they're supposed to," she says. "Color has always been such a polarizing notion for the bridal gown, but more and more often I'm seeing brides be open to subtle shades of color. It's just enough color to feel unique, while the gown still feels bridal."

STATEMENT ACCESSORIES

From bold ties, colorful pocket squares and fun socks, to unique cuff links and sleek watches, grooms are looking for more ways than ever to add sleek and statement accessories to their wedding day look to make a memorable impression.

PERSONALIZATION

From embroidery under collars and on cuffs, to custom suit jacket lining and monogrammed pocket squares, personalization is set to be huge for grooms for the foreseeable future. We're seeing more and more grooms looking for ways to make their suit their own not only to personalize it to their style, but to add a unique detail or element that commemorates the special day. Check out websites like KnottyTie.com and Brackish.com to see the custom options available for grooms and wedding party guests.

THE SECOND LOOK

You might think of the bride having a wardrobe change, but grooms are now adding a wardrobe change into a “Second Look”. Whether it's to feel more comfortable to dance the night away, or to create a memorable moment that fits the theme or vibe of the wedding, we're loving this throwback to the 'going away outfit' your mom or dad may have worn!

THE YEAR OF THE MINI

Honey, we shrunk it. All of it. From bouquets to cakes and after-party dresses, 2024 is the year of the mini. These pint sized details are delivering big though—who says no to a mini cone of french fries attached to a champagne flute? Not us. This is an easy trend to embrace regardless of the party you're throwing. If a mini dress isn't your vibe, ask your wedding party to carry posies down the aisle or serve guests a personalized pie in lieu of a slice

THE RETURN OF RETRO

According to Brooklyn-based wedding planner Jove Meyer, what was old is now new again in the wedding world. “Retro trends are coming back for 2024 and it's so exciting. Think extra-piped cakes, disposable cameras, DJs spinning vinyl, film photography, and more laid-back vibes,” he says.

This nostalgic resurgence is also a way for duos to up the fun and personal factor, which are two other major big-day priorities in 2024.

“They're personalizing the details and moving away from what is expected of or from them and leaning into crafting weddings that are a true reflection of their love story, styles, and

DOCUMENTARY-STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

A documentarian style of photography and social content will be a top priority in 2024. Couples want fewer posed portraits and more candid content. A dedicated team of photographers, videographers, and content creators will be brought on-site to capture and post the event in real time.

EXCHANGING PRIVATE VOWS

This trend isn't just for introverts (but we know they'll especially love it). Couples are exchanging private vows ahead of their prime time ceremony, a confidential and heartfelt shift from more public declarations of love. If you prefer to wait until the main event, your officiant can let your guests know you're exchanging private vows and give you time to quietly share your promises, mic off. Many couples who go this route still exchange traditional marriage vows (think: "till death do us part") in front of their loved ones.

TLC Catering by Terrie Lobb is Waiting for You to Say "I Do" to Elegance, Entertainment and Delicious

Dishes

Ifyou ask Terrie Lobb what comes to mind when she thinks about weddings, she’ll likely laugh and then start replaying a series of real life movie clips that flood into her mind.

Like the one time staff of TLC Catering rolled food carts with fine china through a pasture to accommodate an exquisite outdoor wedding.

Or conversations that start out with a bride-to-be saying, “We’d like to do plated meals for 300 in my grandmother’s barn which is gorgeous but doesn’t have running water or electricity…”

Or celebrations that are meticulously planned down to the smallest detail that have to be adjusted just hours before guests are set to arrive because severe weather rolls in unexpectedly.

After more than 25 years in business, the Polk County native—who started decades ago by hosting opulent house parties complete with fine finger foods and polished silver—has seen a little bit of everything. Today she’s still up for almost anything that a bride and groom want to incorporate into their special day, from the food to china to the overall guest experience.

In 1998, Lobb opened The Docket, a cozy cafe in Bartow, and that set the table for her to create a Polk County food empire, one satisfied customer and one delicious dish at the time.

Today, TLC Catering runs a counter service cafe at 1239 E. Main St. in Bartow and they cater everything from corporate events to social gatherings to weddings all across Polk County, and even across county lines.

Few people know Polk County as well as Lobb, who was born in Haines City and graduated from Auburndale High School. She has lived in five different municipalities in Polk, including Bartow, where she currently resides with her husband, attorney William Lobb, and their 12-year-old daughter Emily.

Whether it’s planning for an intimate backyard wedding in Eagle Lake or preparing for a grandiose

celebration at a large venue like the Bonnet Springs Event Center in Lakeland, trademarks of Lobb’s events include ornate fine china options and unique food stations as distinctive as the partygoers themselves.

“We learned years ago that with weddings everybody wanted china, and throwing away disposable dinnerware was like a dagger in my heart over and over,” Lobb says. “So what we did to set us apart for weddings was to establish packages that already have the cost of the china built in.”

TLC Catering offers three styles of china, gold and silver flatware, and a seemingly endless array of chargers, wine glasses and detail pieces to make every wedding uniquely different.

When it comes to the food, it can be as simple or as extravagant as a bride and groom desire.

On tlccatering.co people can easily compare different types of food cuisines included in wedding packages such as: southern, Italian, traditional and classic.

Lobb said her mission is that food should always be hot, delicious—with just the right amount of seasoning, and match a client’s desired budget. TLC Catering uses fresh ingredients, olive oil and locally grown produce while constantly creating and perfecting new menu items.

One of Lobb’s personal favorite trends to deliver at weddings are food stations, where everything from carving of select meats to customized pasta bowls are brought to life.

“We have creative equipment and displays,” Lobb says. “And I think a lot of people have a hard time thinking they can do something like that at a wedding, but it really creates a more fun environment.”

TLC Catering is glad to try to replicate family recipes or create something unique that a couple found online—it’s all part of putting people first.

“We really do try to meet with the client, understand their needs, and then adapt,” Lobb says, noting that TLC Catering offers group tastings one or two times each month, but are also open to individualized tastings to ensure expectations are met.

Lobb and her staff regularly sift through years of notes and feedback that are collected from every single event as a way to constantly be learning, adapting and growing as a business.

With hundreds of successful weddings to her company’s credit, Lobb is unafraid to help couples understand the best ways to spend their money and make their vision come to life. She jokes that if a couple says they “want to do lobster for 150 people” that she will try to steer them toward a delicious steak dinner for the momentous occasion and tell them to “enjoy lobster on your honeymoon!”

Lobb’s company’s credibility has been built on honesty and consistent excellence, and Lobb said that transparency and clear communication are an essential part of what allows brides and grooms to feel heard and valued.

“We try to build in all of our fees, including gratuity, and our goal is to be clear from the get-

go,” she says. “We put it on a very clear proposal so they can see all of that and know there’s a service charge, but we also put a line on the contract that explains what the service charge covers.”

She pairs that practical skill and understanding of what it takes to deliver a consummate experience with a passion that is lifelong.

At age 10 she was busy making finger sandwiches and eating olives off of relish trays she was crafting as she helped her grandmother cater events. Fast forward to her own wedding day, which took place in 1998 at the Sorosis Building along Lake Morton, and she can tell you exactly what appetizers were on the menu.

She will also tell you, that more than anything, she’s grateful to the man she married on that day, as he has been a foundational support to TLC Catering.

“I could not have done this business without his support, and he’s always been there behind the scenes, kind of this invisible man that’s holding all of the balls in the air,” she says. “Without him it would be impossible to have a child and do all of this…this business is all consuming.”

For many brides-to-be and their families, planning a wedding can feel all consuming, but Lobb and her team have made a name for themselves by shifting that pressure to their shoulders and carrying it quite well.

“When I went into this I had nothing, which for most people you have nothing to lose, but I had to survive,” she says. “So it was do whatever it takes and my base for that was doing honest business where we will do whatever it takes to make things right.”

ata can tell you a lot. For example—data tells us weddings are expensive.

The Knot.com reveals the average wedding ceremony and reception in 2023 cost $35,000! Data unveils new trends, like the fact that 91 percent of wedding planning is now done online. And data shows that some traditions remain strong, including a first dance between a groom and bride on their big day, which 92 percent of surveyed couples say they did.

What data does not tell us are the inside jokes friends use to craft the fail-proof after-party, the perfect way to write vows or a precise blend of elements that go together just right for a ceremony—because every person, every couple and every wedding day is different.

Lakeland is filled with stunning venues, extraordinary vendors and experienced photographers for couples planning their celebration, and here are some of our favorite Real Weddings that took place around the Swan City in recent years.

“We had a violinist playing, and she decided to stop at the violinist, drop her flower girl basket, drop everything and just start twirling, showing everyone her ballerina skills,” Zoe recalls.

“Harper was like, ‘Oh my goodness, my little sister is not doing what she’s supposed to be doing’...so she just kept going and left Marley.”

HIS IS A STORY ABOUT how Ryan and Zoe Harper had a magical wedding in Ryan’s parents backyard, but it’s also a story that serves as a reminder that yes, sometimes friends do know best.

Zoe became fast friends in 2022 with Cat Kirkland through the Summer Leadership Program put on by the Lakeland Economic Development Council. Cat said she knew a guy Zoe had to meet, and Sam Dickman, the roommate of “this guy,” did a little pre-first date screening for his buddy when he ran into Zoe downtown. He approved.

Soon after, Ryan and Zoe went on a date to Scarpa’s Italian, Ryan proposed to her in his

parents backyard on September 23, 2023, and five months later they hosted a modern Western themed celebration with more than 140 guests in that exact location.

Ryan, a graduate of LCS who works for Land South Realty, the company owned by his father Rob, had grown up at the home located in CanterWood in Mulberry, and his older brother and sister-in-law were married there as well. So it’s fitting that one of Zoe’s favorite moments that she planned from the ground up—with significant help from the couple’s wedding planner Nicolette—was a snapshot of the family.

The couple’s nieces, Harper, 5, and Marley, 2, were walking down the aisle as flower girls when something caught Marley’s attention.

everyone her ballerina skills,” Zoe recalls. “Harper was like, ‘Oh my goodness, my little sister is not doing what she’s supposed to be doing’...so she just kept going and left Marley.”

The celebration was festive with a live band, plenty of dancing and a night cap that included fireworks. The food and drink was a nod to some of Lakeland’s finest.

The couple brought in Palace Pizza for catering, hired Frankly Bartending for the drinks and had Granger & Sons grilling steaks.

“He was literally cooking 'em while we were setting up the wedding and going down the aisle. So they were fresh and everybody complimented the kabobs they made.”

That’s so Lakeland, just like Ryan and Zoe.

WAS PERFECT THAT ON JANUARY 27

The Lakeland Country Club hosted a grandiose centennial celebration, because just eight days later a Lakeland couple whose goal was to throw a “Roaring Twenties” style party were married in the same building.

“Everything was black and gold and elegant, and we had lots of pearl accents on everything,” Jessica Thomas says. “Our photo booth had Gatsby themed props like little fans and flat caps and all these cute sayings…and my sister printed these stickers that were in art deco form that had different quotes from the Great Gatsby about love and romance.”

Jessica and Wyatt’s love and romance started out in their home state of Oregon right before the pandemic lockdown, and although the couple moved to Florida in 2022, Jessica’s engagement ring will forever point back to the couple’s origin story with an Oregon sunstone at the center of it.

Jessica said she and Wyatt were up for adventure, and liked the prospects of living in Florida. The thing that made Lakeland a desirable location was more than just the size of the city or the culture of it—it was the fact an Aveda Co-Brand Concept Salon, Venue Salon, was here and she was an Aveda-certified stylist.

The decision to move to Lakeland and earn a position at Venue Salon under the tutelage of Patricia Uiterwyk was doubly beneficial for the Thomas because Uiterwyk was able to utilize her membership at The Lakeland Country Club to get them access to the venue for their special day.

Jessica said the goal for the couple’s wedding was to create a fun themed atmosphere that paid homage to the music, the aesthetics and the social lore of the 1920s—and according to the bride, the result was picture perfect.

She said the support of so many friends and families made the planning and execution of the event fairly easy and it helped her achieve her goal of being “the opposite of a bridezilla.”

One of the couple’s most cherished moments from the wedding was their intimate personal vows that they shared, with Wyatt’s stepdad officiating the ceremony.

While they didn’t share their vows to go in print, it’s a fun fact that the couple first crossed paths at a gymnastics club out West, where Wyatt was training and Jessica was coaching young children.

“Everything was black and gold and elegant, and we had lots of pearl accents on everything...my sister printed these stickers that were in art deco form that had different quotes from the Great Gatsby about love and romance.”

HEN A BIG WHITE VAN ROLLED

UP outside the Junior League Building along Lake Morton, members of Melaina and Mario Perez’s wedding party frantically waved the driver around to the back so they would remain incognito.

Mario, whose parents are U.S. citizens who immigrated from Mexico, loves mariachi bands. Melaina had long wanted to include the ensemble of musicians to their wedding, but wasn’t sure they had the budget to make it happen. One of Mario’s groomsmen caught wind of that desire and helped her make it a reality, as a complete surprise to his friend.

“It was a surprise and made for a really magical moment,” says Mario. “And I know my parents really loved it, and my parents already loved Melaina, but if they weren’t already, they fell in love with her after that.”

More than 100 people gathered from as far south as Mexico and as far north as Canada for a wedding set in what the couple calls the quintessential Lakeland spot.

“It is just beautiful….Lake Morton is just so Lakeland—that's the Lakeland spot, you know? I mean, that's where the Swans live!” Melaina says.

At the time, Melaina was a board member for The Junior League of Greater Lakeland, meaning she was able to rent the venue at a greatly discounted rate.

The venue, sometimes also referred to as the SOROSIS building, was also ideal because the couple’s goal was to throw a gigantic party, and that mission was accomplished because the ceremony and reception all took place there.

“We had family staying downtown at The Terrace Hotel so it was just like, okay, if you have a lot of drinks you can just walk back…and that was the vibe,” Melaina recalls. “There were some photos, I think, of us doing tequila shots. It was a party. It was so much fun.”

The couple made sure to take their time enjoying the delectable cuisine provided by Banquet61, and Melaina noted how happy they were with the photo booth experience from Enchanting Entertainment.

The party was the coronation for a couple who met as co-workers at QGiv and started dating just before the pandemic. Mario was born in Lake Wales, graduated from Bartow High School IB, and is a Florida Southern College alum.

Melaina grew up in the Midwest and relocated to Lakeland in 2017 for a job at Florida Southern College. The couple relocated to a small town outside Chattanooga, Tenn. last year but is so grateful for how their wedding turned out in the heart of Lakeland—especially Mario, who happily recalls beginning and ending the day with his friends at Revival.

“[The mariachi band] was a surprise and made for a really magical moment,” says Mario. “And I know my parents really loved it, and my parents already loved Melaina, but if they weren’t already, they fell in love with her after that.”

OSH AND JANEANNE PHELAN LOVE THE OUTDOORS.

So much so that during the pandemic the Polk County natives installed a platform bed in the back of their Subaru and hit the road for 72 days to visit national parks and quintessential landmarks across the country.

“There were [times] where we didn't shower for eight days in a row because we had to pay $20 every time we would shower,” JaneAnne reminisces. “We were basically living out of a car in a cramped space, but I think it made us strong and we didn’t have that many fights…it was definitely life changing to see the country together.

It’s no surprise that Josh—who sat behind Jane-Anne in world history class at Bartow High School before the 2018 IB graduates became lunch pals that just never stopped talking to each other—proposed to his love at Garrapata Beach on the Big Sur coast about half way through their cross country trek.

And the couple is forever grateful that Lakeland’s latest and largest outdoor gem, Bonnet Springs Park, opened in 2022 with a distinctive event space that accommodates weddings well.

“I really wanted an outdoor wedding in a field, but having that in Florida is kind of impossible,” Jane-Anne says with a laugh. “We really liked how Bonnet Springs had the big windows and the park made it feel like you were outside, even though you were inside.”

The primary colors for their wedding were very earthy: terracotta, sage, eucalyptus and light pink. The outdoor aisleway was lined with everything from cactuses to lavender, and photographer Carmela Blackwell captured shots of the couple and their wedding party in front of a picturesque greenhouse.

One of the bride's favorite memories from the wedding was when the couple did their "first touch" and privately read their vows to each other while locking hands with their arms draped around the corner of a building.

"It was so emotional, I was crying reading our vows," Jane-Anne recalls. "After that I was like, OK, I can't do this, I have to give him a hug. But he still didn't see me."

"I really wanted an outdoor wedding in a field, but having that in Florida is kind of impossible."

not everyday you find someone like that— someone who will drop everything to take care of you,” admits Nick Wood, former firefighter for the Lakeland Fire Department. After meeting at Harrison School of the Arts, falling in love and graduating in 2018, Nick and his bride-to-be, fourth generation Polk County native, Camryn Brooks, share a beautiful bond that has had to overcome the unexpected difficulties of life leading up to their special season of engagement.

“He really swept me off my feet. He makes me laugh, and we just giggle and have a good time,” says the cheerful 23-year-old.

This same positivity has been a foundation through quite a scary chapter in their story.

While the now 24-year-old was training to become a paramedic in 2022 Nick was involved in a serious traffic accident that left him unconscious and put him in the hospital for two weeks.

He suffered broken limbs and fractured ribs. “I was out for 48 hours,” Nick shares. “The people I was with everyday felt like family to me.”

Camryn said Nick was so courageous through the entire ordeal, and going through something like that together brought an incredible amount of growth to their relationship.

“When you don’t know what the next day will bring, it can be very overwhelming to not know how [the person you love will recover],” Camryn says.

In the midst of this challenging time as Nick recovered, they both found it a blessing to be surrounded by the City of Lakeland’s Fire Department crew––around 20 to 30 members––who showed up in multiple ways to support them. From bringing meals to donating extra PTO for Nick’s recovery, they were able to glean strength from their community, as well as lean on each other.

“As a whole, they were pulling for Nick during this time,” Camryn shares.

“[Cam] was by my side the whole time. We live in a third story apartment, and everyday, she helped me get up and down the stairs,” he shares.

She would coordinate his meals, drive him to physical therapy appointments and make sure he had what he needed to heal well and stronger.

Thankfully, after seven long months, Nick was able to recover. During the process he realized this lifechanging accident would catapult him into his next big move: the decision to propose to the love of his life.

“She sacrificed a lot for me to be where I am today,” shares Nick. “While I began my recovery and witnessed [Cam] show up for me day in and day out, I knew I needed to ask this girl to marry me before she gets away.”

For seven months, Camryn faithfully helped Nick face the devastation of such a challenging recovery. While still working full time, she was determined to stay by his side and helped him gain strength.

“While I began my recovery and witnessed [Cam] show up for me day in and day out, I knew I needed to ask this girl to marry me before she gets away.”

Nick was in the hospital for two weeks, and slowly, but surely he recovered over the course of seven months, with the help and support of family and friends.

The 2018 Harrison School of the Arts graduates have been a couple since 2016.

UNEXPECTED TURN

THE PROPOSAL

As Nick walked through his painful recovery for seven months, he began to contact family members to plan an intimate moment to pop the question in front of both families.

An upcoming summer trip to the mountains visiting Nick’s side of the family seemed like the perfect setting to bring everyone together.

“I planned it all out with my grandpa...it was really special,” expresses Nick. On July 9, 2023, Nick nervously and excitedly popped the question to Camryn surrounded by their loved ones at the top of Cove Mountain in Wears Valley, Tennessee.

“The 9th seems to stick out for us [throughout our love story] because we started dating September 9, 2016, got engaged July 9, 2023, and we are set to get married November 9, 2024,” Cam shares.

SAYING YES TO THE DRESS

At a local wedding expo at Haus 820, Camryn entered into a drawing with up-and-coming bridal shop Elope Bride. Soon after, she received word that she had won $500 off her dream wedding dress––a huge blessing as the wedding planning began.

“[Elope Bride] is amazing; ever since I met one of the sales reps from their company, they were super warm and welcoming,” Camryn says about the boutique located at 947 Florida Ave. S. “Wedding dress shopping can be nerve wrecking. They were so patient and non-pressuring during the process. Their dresses are modern, and they go above and beyond to collect newer pieces that represent high trends.”

During her third appointment with the Elope Bride team, she slipped into a dress pulled by shop owner Shantel Griffin. This particular wedding gown was one of many that had just arrived exclusively from Chicago, Ill..

It was the one.

“It was meant-to-be––absolutely perfect and my overall favorite dress,” shares Cam.

Griffin says moments like that stick with her. “We loved getting to meet the [Camryn] at the Haus 820 expo and helping her find her dream dress,” shares Shantel. “I was here when she found her dress [and saw her reaction]. It was so special.”

In an effort to support local small businesses, both Nick and Camryn made it essential for their vendors to be Lakeland/Polk County based. Finding a whimsical, ethereal bridal shop like Elope was more than timely.

During a recent visit to local bridal store Elope Bride, Camryn found the dress she will wear on her wedding day, November, 9, 2024.

“You always put your name in for a raffle, and you never expect to win.

Getting to work with Elope after winning was absolutely incredible,” recounts Cam.

LOCAL FAIRYTALE

When it comes to their wedding day, Camryn and Nick do not shy away from their love for local and for the state they call home.

“Our wedding is centered around our love for old Florida’s charm,” explains Nick.

Leading up to their special nuptials set to take place on November 9 at Mackay Gardens and Lakeside Preserve, the couple is excited to finalize their wedding vendors to support as many businesses within the community.

Catering will be from Il Forno—where Cam works as the manager—and their delectable food will be paired with a mobile bar setup by Frankly Bartending. Weddings by Crown will be doing photography for the couple. Perfect Day Productions is event planning/coordinating. Storybook Weddings will be doing videography, and they picked out their rings at Spath Jewelers.

“Lakeland is such a great city. We’re still small in terms of our traditions, but I love the fact that [Lakeland] is up and coming. I’ve witnessed the changes it has experienced over the last several years,” shares Cam.

Through their journey as they faced such a dark time in their lives, they found solace not only in one another, but in family and in this community of Lakeland they’ve called home for many years.

They are grateful for the people who guided their recovery. Day in and day out, their community surrounded them with continuous support through meals, consistent check-ins, and daily encouragement.

“[All of this] brought us closer together,” Nick admits.

Nick’s love for serving people, and his ability to do so, have also stood the test of time. In March, he celebrated being sworn in as a firefighter for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Even on the other side of life’s greatest adversities, love reminds us to hope again.

“Our wedding is centered around our love for old Florida’s charm.”

NEW LAKELAND BRIDAL BOUTIQUE PROVIDES OFF-THE-RACK OPTIONS

Petersburg native and bridal shop owner Shantel Griffin says coming to Lakeland to open her second business was fate.

After more than 10 years successfully operating Bearer of the Bling Bridal just outside of St. Petersburg, Elope Bride has become a bridge to serve her Lakeland fanbase and attract additional Lakelanders to her business with exclusive bridal designs.

Whether you’re shopping for an exquisite piece to go with a sexy gown or find a classic showstopper, Elope carries unique styles for the everyday bride.

Since opening at 947 Florida Ave. S. in the summer of 2023, Elope Bride has offered new bridal dresses that exude creativity and flare.

“All of our designs are exclusive to the Lakeland area so we can best serve our clients with unique, different designs. We work with a private design house who creates everything: from floral dresses to black gowns to short dresses and long gowns––everything in between,” explains Shantel.

Keeping a close eye on opportunities to expand her entrepreneurial reach in Lakeland, Shantel remembers the reasons that made her fall in love with our city’s historic charm and supportive community.

“Lakeland has a positive vibe and is so evidently up-and-coming––even adorable. I love it here,” she says. “We love serving the brides in this area and giving them an opportunity to experience a custom bridal shopping experience.”

In tandem with its romantic name, Elope Bride features designs that a bride can take home the same day––as opposed to some shops that require an ample amount of time for preordering.

“Like anything, we always recommend for our brides to come in for their appointment at least six months in advance if they’re seeking size and color changes. But for the brides in a time crunch, we do carry a variety of beautiful gowns they can take home the same day depending on what they’re looking for and able to fit into,” she further explains.

The shop features an array of bridal gowns ranging in prices of $2,000 and under. They pride themselves in being size inclusive, with a selection of bridal dresses available in sizes 2-24. Special ordering for sizes in the 30s is available, as well. They also have in-house alterations accessible for their brides.

While they currently see 20 brides a week on average, it is always recommended for clients to call ahead of time and make reservations to ensure a consultant is dedicated to their experience. All appointments are complimentary up to 90 minutes with no fee. Brides typically bring up to five guests on the weekends during consultations.

Parking is available behind their building along with city parking available half a block away.

“We love serving the brides in this area and giving them an opportunity to experience a custom bridal shopping experience.”
