Suspect found guilty in 2013 Larose double murder

By JILL COLVIN Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Sunday vigorously defended President Donald Trump’s immigration restrictions, as protests against the order spread throughout the country. Some Republicans in Congress publicly opposed the changes amid legal challenges to the order banning travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries, though top congressional Republicans remain largely behind the new president. In a background call with reporters, a senior administration official declared the order’s implementation “a massive success story,” claiming it had been done “seamlessly and with extraordinary professionalism.” But there was confusion at airports around the world, and late Sunday the administration appeared to walk-back how the order would apply to certain groups, like legal permanent U.S. residents. Except for some sniffling in the audience, the courtroom was silent Friday night as jurors indicated on slips of paper whether they’d voted to find a 21Traveyon year-old guilty of a Blackledge 2013 Larose double homicide. Eleven of the 12 had decided to convict Traveyon Blackledge of the second-degree murders of 41-year-old Nikki Landry and 54-year-old Harry Lefort, whose bodies were found Sept. 22, 2013, in Landry’s apartment on West Fourth Street. Blackledge tried to console his loved ones from where he stood, separated by a barrier. Overcome with emotion, some of them had to leave the courtroom. Sobbing continued in the background as Assistant District Attorney Joe Soignet, who handled the case with Assistant District Attorney Jason Chatagnier, spoke to a reporter. Soignet said prosecutors are satisfied with the verdict.

Impressive lineup of speakers to appear at Coach “O” banquet

According to Susan Terrebonne, Manager of the Catholic Community Center, many families in the area would not enjoy a holiday meal if it weren’t for the hard work of the center’s volunteers and the generosity of the South Lafourche community. “From January to October, we have helped over 2000 families with food. We depend on our community to help us to fill the shelves beyond what we can purchase,” says Terrebonne. “In past years, Vision Communications, along with the many dedicated businesses of our area have helped us tremendously in restocking the shelves, and we’re humbly asking for help from our community throughout the year.” See Food Drive Page 8-A
