Mission Statement
The King’s University is a higher education and ministry leadership training center that exists to provide biblically and theologically sound preparation that equips men and women to become the next generation of Christ- like, Spirit - empowered, transforma tional leaders for the global church.
ROOTED
We commit to seek and live the truth (John 16:13).
We set our sights on excellence (Phil 4:8-9).
Core Values
UNITED
We believe that all of us together are better than any one of us apart (Eph 4:16).
We choose to be life-giving, building up rather than tearing down (Luke 6:37).
EMPOWERED
We are Spirit-led, living in the power, gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:25).
We ask with audacity, not insulting God with small thinking (Luke 11:8-10).
TRANSFORMED
We are kingdom-minded, following our King, who came not to be served, but to serve (Matt 20:28).
We have grit, believing that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard (Gal 6:9).

Timeline of The King’s University
Beyond 25 Years
The School On The Way becomes The King's Institute, and has a commitment to kingdom-centered, spirit-empowered education.
The King's College and Seminary is born and starts its first classes in the fall.

The School On The Way is founded out of the Church On The Way by its founding pastor, Jack Hayford.

Pastor Jack Hayford receives a calling from God to start a seminary while 30,000 feet in the air on a plane ride.
The King's Seminary welcomes its first students and The King's College receives full accreditation.

The King's College becomes The King's University. Pastor Jack invites Pastor Robert Morris to take on the responsibility for the future of the school.
The King's Seminary receives full accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools. (ATS).
The King's University relocates operations from California to Southlake, Texas and is vitally connected to Gateway Church.

Founder and Chancellor Emeritus Pastor Jack Hayford passes away, leaving a legacy for TKU graduates, students, faculty, staff, and partners of The King's University

“ e home-going of Pastor Jack is a bittersweet moment for e King’s University family,” says TKU President, Dr. Jon Chasteen. "Like many of you, we mourn the loss of Pastor Jack but rejoice at the thought of him hearing, ‘well done, good and faithful servant’ as he walks on the streets of gold. It is one of my greatest honors to steward this great university, and to ensure that his legacy lives on for generations.”

Pastor Jack’s Legacy
Pastor Jack was born on June 25, 1934, with a life-threatening illness. Family and friends interceded for him, and he was miraculously healed. He experienced another healing miracle only a few years later when he contracted polio as a child. ese miracles sparked in Pastor Jack a steadfast belief in the power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He practiced and taught them. As he did so, his in uence in the Church began to grow rapidly.
e empowerment and the gifts of the Holy Spirit were central parts of Pastor Jack’s legacy, but so was scholarship. During a time when the charismatic church distrusted seminaries and academic theological studies, Pastor Jack had a passion for bringing the two together.
During a time when the charismatic church distrusted seminaries and academic theological studies, Pastor Jack had a passion for bringing the two together. “During that time in the charismatic church, seminaries were thought of as cemeteries,” says Larry Dantzler, the only original TKU trustee still serving on the board. “Jack didn’t appreciate that perspective and he thought there was a way that scholarship could be lifegiving.”
When God spoke to him in 1996 about starting a seminary, he sprang into action, and the next year, e King’s College and Seminary (now TKU) was born. Today, 25 years later, TKU remains one of the cornerstones of Pastor Jack’s legacy.

Academic Regalia
The hood is a symbol of the degree the wearer holds and is the most distinctive part of academic dress. The colors of the hood identify the degree and university or college that conferred it. Hoods worn by the faculty of The King’s University in the commencement processional are a colorful spectacle representing the many graduate schools faculty members have attended.
The hood is lined and carries the colors of the institution conferring the degree the hoods for all TKU degrees are lined with purple and silver. The velvet border on the outside of the hood identifies the degree. Theology degrees are signified by the scarlet border, counseling degrees are signified by the light blue border, and leadership degrees are signified by the drab border.
Honor cords are worn to represent the Latin honors earned by each wearer. For undergraduate degrees, the gold and purple cords represent Summa Cum Laude; the silver and purple cords represent Magna Cum Laude; and the purple cords represent Cum Laude. For graduate degrees, the gold and purple represent With High Honors and the silver and purple represent With Honors.
