CUO’SEXPERIENCES
CUO M. Vukasovic
“Come to Corp with an open mind. I know that there can be quite a bit of negative chatter from older boys about Corp when you are first being introduced to it, but I ensure that if you accept every challenge that Corp brings you and engage with every activity, you will find an area that will resonate with you, and it can also be a very developmental experience”
CUO K. Cho
“My advice to the first-year cadets is to ask questions learning is key to growth, and seeking clarification shows initiative Also, embrace challenges as opportunities to improve your skills, resilience, and confidence Overcoming obstacles will make you a stronger and more capable cadet.“
CUO L. Ivankovic
“My best advice for the first years is to actively participate and make the most out of your time in Corps”
CUO R. Rengaswamy
“Take initiative within the corps, the more you put into the program, the more you will get out of it. Take opportunities, support others, and embrace the challenges the corps has to offer. ”
CUO S. Sahu
“Put your all into the Corps, engage in the activities and do what you enjoy, whether it be medics, food security, roping, there are so many ways to push yourselves.”

What does Fire Safety Platoon do during Training Parades?
“Fire Safety Platoon conducts practical and theoretical training on fire prevention, suppression, and emergency response. Cadets practice using fire extinguishers, setting up fire points, and responding to simulated fire emergencies. They also review safety protocols, conduct equipment inspections, and refine teamwork under pressure.”
“Training parades focus on developing situational awareness and leadership skills, ensuring cadets are prepared to handle real-life scenarios effectively”
What is the role of Fire Safety Platoon on AFX?
“During AFX, Fire Safety Platoon is responsible for maintaining fire prevention measures and ensuring the safety of all personnel. This includes setting up and monitoring fire points, managing controlled burns, and enforcing campfire regulations. Cadets patrol high-risk areas, remain on standby for emergency response, and educate others on fire safety protocols.
In the event of a fire, they coordinate suppression efforts, communicate with command staff, and assist in evacuation procedures if necessary. Their role is crucial in preventing fire hazards and ensuring a safe training environment.”
“Joining Fire Safety Platoon offers cadets a unique and highly valuable skill set that extends beyond Cadets. Members develop critical emergency response capabilities, leadership under pressure, and teamwork in high-stakes situations The platoon provides hands-on experience with fire safety equipment, risk assessment, and controlled emergency scenarios. Additionally, it fosters a strong sense of responsibility and discipline, as cadets play a crucial role in protecting their peers. Whether for practical skills, leadership experience, or a passion for emergency response, Fire Safety Platoon is an excellent choice for those looking to challenge themselves and make a meaningful contribution.”
What are you looking forward to doing on AFX with your platoon?
SGT Krish Thakkar (Right)
"Making a big bonfire and putting it out, I enjoy serving the Cadet Corps to better the school community, I had a dream with fire and that's when I knew fire safety was for me."
SSGT Shaurya Garg (Right)
“Siting around the fire, talking with the boys, and then looking forward to go home.”
Anzac Day for the marching band began in the early hours of the morning, around 4 to 5 AM, as we prepared for the solemn events ahead. Our first duty was to attend the Anzac morning service at the school, where we stood under the glow of the lights, ready to honour those who had served. As part of the ceremony, we played the national anthem and a few hymns, adding to the atmosphere of remembrance. The bugler then performed his tune to pay tribute to the fallen.
This year, we have the largest band in 10 years, with around 80 cadets almost double the size of a normal band. The most magical thing about participating in the Anzac March was walking under the sun with the planes flying overhead, the crowds of people in the city on both sides cheering and waving their Australian flags In the three years that I had done the march, this was an experience like no other. As the drum major, it was a great way to advance my time in the corps, and every time I did it, it felt like the first time.
Last year, I was in Band 1 as the sergeant of that platoon, and on Anzac Day, the Band Platoon went through a lot. The day began before dawn, as we woke up early to prepare for the solemn events ahead
Our first duty was attending the Dawn Service at the White Oval, where we played music during the wreath-laying ceremony. The atmosphere was quiet and reflective, with our instruments echoing in the morning air as we paid tribute to the fallen Immediately after, we boarded a bus to the city for two marches along George Street, one being a televised parade
Kings was one of many schools and clubs participating, all united in honouring Anzac Day through music and marching The energy of the crowd, the synchronised footsteps, and the sight of countless groups together made it powerful The Anzac Day March was for the public, but also a way to commemorate fallen soldiers and their sacrifices. As we played, it felt like more than a performance it was a tribute, a way to connect past and present, and a reminder of why this tradition continues year after year.

The purpose of the confidence course to push cadets outside their comfort zone, whether that be through mental challenge, or physical challenge Similarly, cadets are required to work in a group through the course, to improve teamwork and comradery.

“During AFX, the Pioneers Platoon will construct, as well as administer and run the Confidence Course. “Which are all activities aimed to improve the ability of cadets to overcome challenges that they are faced with, which can often transfer to situations they may face throughout life Cadets are also given the ability to improve their platoon points, with times throughout the course recorded, as well as platoons with the most teamwork, scoring highly on the course.”
Why should people join Pio’s & Engineering Platoon?
“Pioneers platoon is a highly welcoming platoon, where all cadets are encouraged to have fun, whilst also maintaining levels of work ethic and teamwork Pioneers are a tight-knit platoon, where we always have fun, but also work at the same time.
